Wondering who has the most favorable matchups this week? How about the most unfavorable? Each Monday, we'll take a look at every position on the field and give you a guy who looks to be in line for big-time numbers, as well as a guy who could be in line for big-time disappointment.
Catcher
Make sure you play ... Yadier Molina, St. Louis Cardinals
Molina isn’t a great fantasy option. There’s no hiding that fact. But he can help out those in deeper leagues if you pick your spots. This may be the week to give him a shot, as the Cards have a full seven-game slate, with four games coming in Colorado and three in Milwaukee. The Redbirds will also face four southpaws this week.
Honorable Mention: Kurt Suzuki, Oakland A's (3 games vs. BAL, 3 games @ TEX)
Don't expect much from ... Bengie Molina, San Francisco Giants
Normally you’d think Bengie would be the Molina brother to play and Yadi would be the brother to sit. Well, keep in mind we’re not suggesting you should play Yadi over his brother, only that things aren’t really set up for Bengie having a big week. The Giants play three at Pittsburgh and three at home this week, two places that aren’t very kind to hitters.
Honorable Mention: Ramon Hernandez, Baltimore Orioles (3 games @ OAK, 4 games @ KC; 6 games vs. RHP)
First Base
Make sure you play ... Conor Jackson, Arizona Diamondbacks
Jackson has been a delight for fantasy owners so far this year, and things should continue to go his way this week as well. The Snakes play four games at their hitter-friendly home park to begin the week before traveling to Wrigley Field to finish out a seven-game stretch. Jackson has hit .305 in his career at Chase and .370 in his career at Wrigley.
Honorable Mention: Derrek Lee, Chicago Cubs (3 games @ CIN, 3 games vs. ARI)
Don't expect much from ... Carlos Delgado, New York Mets
You’ve pretty much come to the point where you never expect anything from Delgado, right? Well, you shouldn’t get your hopes up this week, either. The Mets travel to Los Angeles for three -- where Carlos has batted a paltry .224 in his career -- before coming home to Shea.
Honorable Mention: Adam LaRoche, Pittsburgh Pirates (6 home games; 4 games vs. LHP)
Second Base
Make sure you play ... Brendan Harris, Minnesota Twins
Harris had a semi-breakout for the Rays last year, and now he’s the regular at second base in Minnesota. He and the Twins hitters have a favorable schedule this week, with three games at Chicago and three at home. They’ll also square off against three left-handers, which bodes well for Harris, as the 27-year-old has hit .309 against southpaws in his career.
Honorable Mention: Orlando Hudson, Arizona Diamondbacks (4 games vs. PHI, 3 games @ CHC)
Don't expect much from ... Kelly Johnson, Atlanta Braves
Johnson had a big game Sunday, so you might be inclined to stick him in your lineup. That’s fine, but just be aware that the schedule this week doesn’t look good for him, as the Braves play three at home and three in Pittsburgh this week and will face a trio of lefties.
Honorable Mention: Dan Uggla, Florida Marlins (3 games vs. MIL, 3 games @ WAS; 5 games vs. RHP)
Shortstop
Make sure you play ... Cristian Guzman, Washington Nationals
Guzman has been a nice little contributor to fantasy squads this year, hitting .309 with three dingers and 14 RBI. He is also red-hot, picking up six hits over his last nine at-bats. With three games at Houston and three at home this week, we like him to keep it going.
Honorable Mention: Jeff Keppinger, Cincinnati Reds (3 home games; 3 games vs. LHP)
Don't expect much from ... Yunel Escobar, Atlanta Braves
We have listed Escobar as a good play a few times already, and we're still on his bandwagon, but our expectations for him this week are tempered. The shortstop is dealing with a finger injury that's kept him out of action the last couple days, and it's not clear when he'll return. That, combined with the fact that the Braves will face all righties this week in their five games, and you have enough reason to sit Escobar this week.
Honorable Mention: Edgar Renteria, Detroit Tigers (7 home games; 6 games vs. RHP)
Third Base
Make sure you play ... Troy Glaus, St. Louis Cardinals
Glaus hasn’t provided the home run total his owners were hoping for thus far, but he does have a team-high 21 RBI on the year, so he hasn’t been a complete waste of space. We like him to go deep at least once this week with four games at Colorado, three at Milwaukee and four against left-handed pitching.
Honorable Mention: Joe Crede, Chicago White Sox (6 games vs. RHP; 1.020 OPS vs. righties in 2008)
Don't expect much from ... Mike Lamb, Minnesota Twins
The Twins have a pretty hitter-friendly schedule this week, but we still recommend you keep Lamb on your bench. The third baseman has proven in his career that he can swing the stick against right-handers, but lefties have given him problems. This year he has just one hit all year against southpaws, and the Twins will go up against a trio of them this week.
Honorable Mention: Jose Bautista, Pittsburgh Pirates (6 home games)
Outfield
Make sure you play ... Delmon Young, Minnesota Twins
We might not think Lamb is in line for much this week, but his teammate, Young, should be. As outlined above, Minnesota’s schedule looks promising for their hitters, with three at Chicago and three at home. In his career, Young has a .516 average and 1.382 OPS at US Cellular. He’s also a .295 career hitter against lefties, and the Twins will face three southpaws this week.
Honorable Mention: Ryan Ludwick, St. Louis Cardinals (4 games @ COL, 3 games @ MIL; 4 games vs. LHP)
Don't expect much from ... Fred Lewis, San Francisco Giants
Lewis has been a fantasy surprise this year at top of the Giants order. However, if you’re a betting man, you’d be wagering on a lackluster week from the 27-year-old outfielder. He simply doesn’t play against left-handers, so the fact that San Fran squares up against five lefties this week doesn’t bode well for Lewis. The Giants are also at Pittsburgh and at home this week, two places where hitters don’t generally thrive.
Honorable Mention: Nate McLouth, Pittsburgh Pirates (6 home games; 4 games vs. LHP)
Pitcher
Make sure you play ... Jonathan Sanchez, San Francisco Giants
The Giants are finally sticking with Sanchez in a starting role, and he’s rewarded them with a 3.48 ERA and 1.28 WHIP thus far to go along with a 10.7 K/9 rate. The southpaw still has some risk because of his control problems, but you have to roll the dice on him this week with starts at Pittsburgh and at home.
Honorable Mention: Ervin Santana, L.A. Angels (@ KC, @ TB)
Don't expect much from ... Brian Bannister, Kansas City Royals
Bannister got off to a heck of a start this year, but he’s fallen on hard times of late, posting an 8.57 ERA over his previous three outings. His two home starts against the Angels and Orioles don’t appear to be too bad on paper, but Bannister is the kind of guy that should be benched when he’s going through a rough time -- regardless of how the matchups look.
Honorable Mention: Braden Looper, St. Louis Cardinals (@ COL, @ MIL)

Trying to figure something out here Mr. Boyer......
I read your comment on Kelly Johnson, says that the Braves will play 6 games this week and face 3 lefties.
Ok I am cool with that....
But then the next position down, in those same 6 games you say Yunel Escobar will face 5 righties.
Either you have some new way of math (3 lefties + 5 righties = 6 games) or you did not do your homework very well.
