Old Friends: The Shaub trade & remembering Favre

So this week we face and old friend.  Matt Shaub has really gotten things going in Houston and I have to say that I am happy for him and do want to see him succeed, JUST NOT THIS WEEKEND!  This gives me an chance to vent about something that has always bugged me.

People call the Falcons stupid for trading him away.  I am reminded of another backup QB that we traded away many years ago.  Another situation that Falcons haters always point to as a huge mistake.  Of course I am referring to Brett Favre.  In both these cases, the logic is there.  Favre was an underacheiver that always landed in the coaches doghouse.  He himself conceeds that things just were not right here.  He had a reputation of partiying a lot in Buckhead and not bothering to study the playbook.  So let's see.  Another team dangles a first round pick for a player that didn't want to be here and most likely would have just flamed out here.  You can't blame the Falcons for that as I firmly believe that Brett Favre would not have become the "Brett Favre" that we know if he stayed here.

Week 3 - Getting Better

It's amozing what a QB can do when there is the slightest fire lit under his behind. Harrington throws for 262 yards in the first half, but what happened the second half?  I think they Birds should have stuck to the gameplan of the first half.  Also, I have to say that the penalties against D. Hall where borderline.  He was just getting really physical with Steve Smith, it was a clean shot he took.

Anyhow, I must say that things are starting to look up a bit with Joey and Roddy White stepping up, although White might want to try to curve all of those mental mistakes that lead to penalties.  Can't wait for next week!

Week 1 - Big Plays Will Kill You!

I have to say that all things considered there was certanly some (OK, just maybe one or two) positives to take away from the 24-3 loss to the Vikings.  If you think about it, there where about 3 or 4 big plays that turned this one from a close game to mild blowout.  Big plays really do make a difference.  Overall the defense didn't play as good as I would have hoped.  Adrian Peterson ran all over us.

I must say though that I was pleased with the way that some of the younger WR's played.  Not spectacular, but Laurent Robinson def. showed me some potential.  Unfortunalty he made some rookie mistakes that lead to crucial penalties.  Harrington?  I thought he played about as well he could have given the ultra conservative gameplan.  That second interception will show up in his stats but make not mistake about it, Michael Jenkins should have caught that one that hit him in the numbers.

i agree that they should get Long
Jake Long, then Stacco. Let someone else take Ryan because he's just another Joey Harrington. We need an O-line about as badly as Shirley Franklin needs a retainer.

I meant Brooking. No matter who the QB is next season he wont have a go to guy now that Crumpler is gone. And I thought letting Kearny get away was a bone head move but this tops that.

I think the pick up of M Turner was a good move. Still can't belive they let Crumpler go and kept Harrington and Broking.

One person I think we SHOULDNT draft is Matt Ryan with the 3rd overall pick. I think one of the top DT's would be a great move.
