Prospect Profile: Henry Sims

Name: Henry Sims
Hometown: Baltimore, MD
School: Mt. St. Joseph's
College: Georgetown
Height: Listed anywhere from 6'10" to 7'0"
ESPN Rank: 46
USA Today Rank: 62

Analysis: Georgetown is getting quite the catch with Henry Sims.  Sims was easily the tallest person on Mt. St. Joe's by at least five inches.  In this game, he dropped nine points and grabbed _ boards.  He has great touch and great low post moves.  Sims is a great free throw shooter, although he puts very little arch on the ball.  Sims appears as if he has more impact on the defensive side of the ball.  He was effectively neutralized offensively by the opponent, the John Carroll School, and got about five of his points from the foul line.  MSJ was still able to pull out a 66-54 victory, due to stellar play from their guards.  But JC did their best to neutralize Sims at every possible opportunity.  They matched up a variety of players on him; from 6'5" Danny Brooks to 7'4" Jakub Kusmieruk.  They were also very, very physical on him.  The refs were not the best, and there were a lot of bad fouls called, but Sims battled down low most of the game.  John Carroll tried to cancel out his defense by using their big men to pull him out to the high post and cut in behind with their guards.

PrimeTime Shootout: JC vs. StA

On Friday, February 8, 2008, I attended the Primetime Shootout at the Louis Brown Athletic Center at Rutgers University.

When I arrived, the first game, a women's game between University High School and Murray Bergtraum was ending, with Murray Bergtraum handling University by a score of 80-56.

The next game on the slate was the John Carroll School, from Bel Air, Maryland, against St. Anthony, from Jersey City, New Jersey.  This was the game I had driven two and a half hours to see, as I was covering it for my school's paper.  St. Anthony definitely looked like they had the speed advantage and the size advantage cancelled out.  St. Anthony's players ranged in height from 5'11" to 6'8", while John Carroll's players ranged in height from 5'8" to 7'4", but the guards from St. Anthony were mostly in the 6'3" to 6'5" range, while many of John Carroll's forwards were in that height range.

MSJ lost in the A Conf. finals to TC and then lost in the BCL finals to SFA.

Tough two weeks.

I'm out of the group, thank you GOAT and DJ. It was fun.
I was watching the St. Anthony vs. American Christian game last night and I was somewhat impressed with the Friars. Their defense was remarkable as was their talent. But their shot selection in the third quarter wasn't very good. They started 0-13 and were taking bad shots again and again.
