Can Colt Cope?
AUSTIN, TX
Coming in to the 07-08 season the Longhorns have high hopes. Jamaal Charles is returning and Limas Sweed is returning for his senior season. The only question is Colt McCoy. Don't get me wrong, Colt McCoy is extremely talented and one of the best sophomore quarterbacks ever at Texas. But not if he's on the bench. Colt McCoy was injured against Kansas State game later against Texas A and M with a pinched nerve in his neck. Everyone who saw those games knows what Texas does without him. Collapses. Against KSU Texas was highly ranked and looking for a chance to make it to the National Championship after Michigan was defeated and Florida beaten. But on a simple one-yard dive into the endzone, it all changed. He had been hit in the neck and was injured. Jevan Snead (who has transferred from Texas)entered the game and Texas was down by as many as 28 until Colt returned in the fourth quarter. They came back, but still lost. A week later, he was injured in the same spot in the last seconds of a loss to A and M. If Colt McCoy stays healthy, the Longhorns could be real contenders, but if not, they will be another middle of the pack team.
