When the season started I would have said Bernie come back..... to tell you the truth, he would have been just sitting and sitting and sitting on the bench. The Yankees are loaded with talent, talent enough to have TWO FULL teams. I do agree that as a courtesy the Yankees should have re-signed him for $1million dollars and for every POINT over 200 batting average he would get a certain amount of dollars, for every home run a certain amount of dollars etc etc, that way NO ONE CAN LOSE and then make it clear to him that this would have been his LAST YEAR, and that the NYY should not have waited til last minute to tell him to TRY OUT FOR THE TEAM... like Carlitos would say, "THAT.....IS NOT COOL"....
