Moose Skowron.
Did this really happen?
To any old timers out there. I have a Yankee story that my friends say couldn???t have happened. They say it???s just a glitch in my memory. Hey, I???m 59 years old; maybe they???re right. Can anyone out there verify?
Here???s the story:
Approximately 1958, Moose Skowron is playing first base. Hector Lopez is playing third. Hector boots a ground ball, then makes a rushed throw wide of first toward the runner. Skowron reaches for the throw, and the runner collides with his outstretched arm, breaking his wrist. Skowron misses several months of the season.
That part happened. It???s not in question.
Here???s the part I???m asking about: In my memory, I have Skowron coming back near the end of the season. Lopez, at third again, boots a grounder, rushes his throw, wide again. Skowron breaks his wrist again on the same kind of play in the same season.
This seems like a virtually impossible coincidence, but I can???t imagine how I could have thought it happened, if it didn???t. Maybe it???s just a glitch, but I???ve rebooted and it???s still there.
Anyone have any input? Please drop me a note at talljackk@yahoo.com

I'm also 59, and I do remember that when Lopez came over from KC his errors were headline news on the back page of the News and Mirror. I mean they were really on his back bigtime. I had a Hector Lopez card that year in a KC uniform and I remember spitting on it and ripping it up. But I don't remenber a second broken wrist.
