Sweeney was activated off the disabled list on Wednesday, but Oakland's game versus Kansas City was rained out and has been rescheduled as a doubleheader Thursday.
Bad knees have limited Sweeney to 40 games this season, hitting .292 with two home runs and 12 RBIs. He went on the disabled list May 29 and had surgery on both knees on June 11. Sweeney faces more knee surgery, but opted to postpone it until after the season for the chance to play again at Kauffman Stadium. He signed with Oakland just before the start of spring training after spending his entire career with Kansas City.

Breaking News: Monday, September 01

Sweeney - a Royal for his entire career until this season - will travel with the A's when they visit Kansas City this week, the Royals' official Web site reports.
Sweeney is on the 60-day disabled list after knee surgery, but he could be activated for the series. He spent the second half of August rehabbing in the minors, and will hope to make his first major league appearance since May 28.
