Out of Rice
Born February 10, 1976
Berkman was held out of the Houston Astros' lineup Sunday with a sore left eye.
Manager Cecil Cooper said the first baseman did not notice a problem until he woke up and looked in the mirror. Berkman told The Associated Press before Houston's game with the Atlanta Braves that he had yet to see a doctor and did not know when he would return to the field. His eye did not appear to look badly swollen or infected. Darin Erstad started for Berkman at first, and Cooper moved right fielder Hunter Pence into the No. 3 spot in the batting order.
Berkman extended his hitting streak with a home run in the first inning of the Astros' 4-1 win over the Los Angeles Dodgers on Monday night.
Berkman is 12-for-25 (.480) with two homers, eight RBIs and six runs scored during his seven-game hitting streak. The Astros are 5-2 in those contests.
