Bruney allowed one run and two hits over two innings in his first minor league rehab appearance Friday since hurting his right foot in April.
It was first thought Bruney would need season-ending surgery to repair a torn ligament in the foot, but the right-hander opted to rehab the injury after consulting several specialists. He struck out three and walked one in a Gulf Coast League game against Detroit minor leaguers. He retired six of his last seven batters after allowing the first three to reach base. Before Bruney twisted his foot April 22, he was 1-0 with one save and a 1.59 ERA this year.
