Although it came down to two teams for me, I had to go with the Colts.
This is not the team with the most future Hall of Famers, but the team with the best group.
1st-team and possible Hall of Famers
2nd and 3rd-arguments
1. Peyton Manning
2. Marvin Harrison
3. Jeff Saturday
4. Dwight Freeney
5. Bob Sanders
6. Adam Vinatieri
Thats all I can think of at the moment, there may be more to come.
EagleHater: Goodbye, FN said 01/13, 09:27 PM
I'll take the Pats...
1. Tom Brady
2. Junior Seau
3. Rodney Harrison
4. Richard Seymour
5. Randy Moss
6. Matt Light (hey, he has similar accolades to Saturday in fewer years, and he comes from a dynasty.)
7. Asante Samuel (If you get to take Freeney and Sanders, I get one guy who probably won't make it as well.)
Bigdleech said 01/14, 07:52 PM
Obviously Manning, Vinatieri, and Harrison will get in. As will Brady, Belicheck, and Seau.
Although Sanders is a big stretch right now, I feel that Freeney has a very good chance. Freeney has plenty of football ahead of him right now, and he is the best defensive end in the league. This is only his sixth season in the NFL, and he already has about sixty sacks. He was injured most of the year, so he could yave gotten at least another five. Through his first five years, he was able to get three Pro Bowl nominations and three All-Pro nods. If he plays say, fifteen years, he could very reasonably make it into the top five in career sacks.
I know we said only one more, but I figured I would say Reggie Wayne to make it even. I know he is still young, but I don't think its wrong to say he could make it. He is just under 500 career receptions through 7 seasons, and his numbers have increased every year of his career. Plus, his numbers will remain great with Harrison probably retiring soon.
The problem I have with Moss is what he did the last couple years and Minnesota and Oakland. He didn't care and didn't try, and I could definately imagine voters punishing him for those problems.
Bigdleech said 01/16, 07:25 PM
Man, the time limit does suck.
Lets go head to head on coaches. Obviously the Hoodie makes it in, he is one of the greatest coaches ever, but Tony Dungy also has a very good shot. He is by no means a lock to get in, but many people feel that he will get in eventually. The fact that he was the first black coach to win the Super Bowl will help him too. While it shouldn't help him that much, it will.
So that is both coaches, both quarterbacks, at least a two to one advantage on wide receivers, and one defensive player.
As I said, voters will punish Moss for his previous actions. A lot of people don't want to see loser thugs get in. You can compare his actions to Michael Irvin, but in the end, Irvin at least showed that he had a heart and that he cared about others.
And obviously, Harrison is a much better receiver than Moss is anyday.
To compare quarterbacks: they are both easily locks, but Manning is the better choice. Although Brady broke Manning's touchdown record for a season, Manning should hold the career mark when it is all said and done. Don't get me wrong, I think Brady is amazing, but given the choice between the two, most people would still choose Manning.
EagleHater: Goodbye, FN said 01/17, 04:24 PM
OK, I'll just do a breakdown here-
QBs- At this moment in time, yes, Manning is the better of the two QBs. HOWEVER! Remember that Harrison is moving on soon. Meanwhile, Brady could have Welker, Watson, and Moss, along with his o-line, for maybe even 6 or 7 years to come. That combo got Brady 50 TDs in one off-season of being together. He could put up 40+ TDs for 6 or 7 more years, as well as retire with 5-6 SB rings to 1 or 2 for Manning, launching Brady well past the tall guy from Indy.
WR- Again, at this time, Harrison has the advantage. But Moss is NOT far behind. Oakland transgressions aside, the HoF voters will NOT overlook a guy who could rack up 15+ TDs a year for 5 or 6 more years. Harrison, meanwhile, is on the verge of retirement. If Moss keeps up a pace slightly close to this season, he'll out TD Harrison by a mile, and could have more catches and yards. Plus, Harrison never set the TD record.
Coaches- Belichick is a likely first ballot guy, Dungy is iffy to even make it. Only 1 SB, after all.
Plus, you've got Seau for the Pats, much more likely to make it than Vinatieri, a kicker.
And Seymour is on a MUCH quicker pace than Freeney (better player, on a dynasty, etc.

Freeney and Sanders aren't HOFers yet. Not sure if Saturday will get in either. Not saying he doesn't deserve it but lineman have more trouble these days than skilled players.

Half the players you guys aren't Hall of Fame Players. Jeff Saturday, Rodney Harrison, Matt Light and Asante Samuel aren't Hall of Fame players. It's too early to say with Freeney, Sanders and Seymour. Vinatieri is a kicker and there are only two of them in the Hall.

I do have to say it's hard to go against the Patriots with Brady, Moss, Seau and most importantly Bill Belichick.

The Lions will own Canton?! They can't even get in qualified, worthy candidates like Dick LeBeau... who is in the pipeline awaiting canonization right now?

Seymour is more of a sure thing than Sanders or Freeney right now though.
The only locks from the Colts: Manning, Harrison
Very Likely from the Colts: Vinatieri
Still have work to do: Freeney, Sanders
Not even close: Saturday
Locks on the Pats: Brady, Seau, Moss, Belicheck
Very Likely: Richard Seymour
Has Work to do: Asante Samuel
Not even close: Matt Light, Rodney Harrison
I'd go with the Patriots.

Alright, leech, let's do this.
I'll make a list of the locks that we each have. Then we each also get to pick one of our other "on the bubble" guys to include as part of an updated list, 'cause we both stretched it a bit.
Colts' locks: Peyton Manning, Marvin Harrison, Adam Vinatieri + 1 on the bubble player
Patriot locks: Brady, Seau, Moss, Belichick + 1 on the bubble player
Fair?
