The main reason(NOT THE ONLY REASON) Tippet got into the HOF this season is.....

Goodell: FIRE DICK JAURON! (578-363-56) vs Gruden is Moses (207-128-19)

Because of the Media attention the Pats got this season going undfeated in the regular season. It is not the only reason, but it is a very BIG part of it. The same way meida attention at the right time will earn you a PB nod is the same way this went down. The entire meida world was all over the Pats nut sack all season long

Are his #'s really HOF worthy??? You tell me...

He is a 5 time Pro-bowler and a 5 time all pro

His 100 sacks ranks 23rd all time. He NEVER led the NFL in any defensive statistic

He has 1 career INT

Now Im not sayin he should never get in...But what is HOF worthy anymore?? If guys like Cris Carter and Derrick Thomas dont get in, but you let a good...NOT GREAT....but good LB in, whats really goin on?

Oh please. This has nothing to do with what team he played for. Its all about his career. For example, he was named to the 1980's ALL DECADE TEAM. Who else is on that team? Lawrence Taylor, Jack Lambert, Mike Singletary, Ted Hendricks. All four already in the Hall of Fame. That's the company this man keeps.

Three Time NFL Linebacker of the Year.

As for sacks.....he was a linebacker. 100 ranks 23rd all time against people who rush the quarterback for a living.

And I'm not even going to address his interceptions. Some linebackers go an entire career without one.

In reality, to those that don't hate the Patriots so much they'll say anything to degrade them....Andre Tippett was GREAT. Far beyond good. And well deserving of the NFL Hall of Fame.

How about the fact that

Here's the deal...

Tippett was a very good LB in a horrilbe AFC. The AFC as a whole was putrid for his entire career. There has to be a rep from the AFC on the 80's all time team...and it just happend to be him. Lets look at it this way...We will name all of the great Defensive players of his day and what conference they played in

LT - NFC
Singletary - NFC
John Anderson - NFC
Carl Banks - NFC
Ronnie Lott - NFC
Reggie White - NFC
Bruce Smith - AFC
Dan Hampton - NFC
Keith Millard - NFC
Dave Butz - NFC

Here's the Members from the AFC
Howie Long
Jack Lambert - Only played 4 years into the 80's
Mel Blount - Only played 3 years in the 80's
Deron Cherry

Thats about all of the AFC members of the 80's all-decade team.....Sure he is in great company with Lambert and Mel Blount, but they would have made the team if they only played 1 season into the 80's. He made the 80's all decade team by DEFAULT. There was no other good D players in the AFC besides maybe Clay Matthews..

The AFC talent level was no where close to the NFC in the 80's and its a fact

So because the AFC talent level in the 80's wasn't near the talent level of the NFC, we should totally eliminate one of the best linebackers in history....simply because he led his team to a victory over your beloved Buffalo Bills? Is that really what this is all about?

The point is you cherry picked only the NFC guys (notice you put Bruce Smith in the NFC list...LOL, brilliant). Here's the deal: no matter how you shuffle the cards, Andre Tippett was STILL on the 1980's ALL DECADE TEAM. He didn't make it by default, because they could have easily chosen another NFC player. There was no conference requirement. He made it on shear talent, period.

Here's a simple figure for you: You say Mike Singletary deserved to be in the Hall of Fame. How many sacks did he have in his CAREER? 19. Compare that to Tippett's 100.

"we should totally eliminate one of the best linebackers in history....simply because he led his team to a victory over your beloved Buffalo Bills?"

Man, you could NOT be more wrong. I hate Tom Brady, I hate Billicheate, I hate Welker.... I totally respect Tippett, Fryar, Grogan and Company. For you to ASSUME such only proves your ignorance. As a Bills fan I hate Ronnie Brown and Jason Taylor, yet I am a fan enough to respect Clayton and John Offerdahl. I hate Pennington and Ferguson, but I respect Namath and Hutson. Andre Tippett was a very, very good LB. But for you to think the media attention had nothing to do with his induction is foolish. . You are a very smart person, use your head. Like the TD suggests, its not the only reason, but it is apart of the reason. What he did on the field does warrant induction. Just NOT before guys like Cris Carter and Derrick Thomas.

Look at it this way.....If the Chiefs went 16-0 I garuntee Thomas would have gotten in.

Good TD anyways....Good Luck

So my opinion proves my ignorance. I see. I used to think you had class. Guess I was wrong.

Reread your post. You actually HATE people you don't know. That's sad. How can you possibly drill up enough emotion to hate someone you've never met, and only know from the minutes you've seen them doing something on the television?

And you actually think a player from 10 years ago would make the Hall of Fame if the team he used to play for wins the Super Bowl today. Why then did it take a former Bronco so long to get in then? Shouldn't he have gotten in several years ago when the Broncos won two in a row? Then MAYBE your argument would have made sense.

Tippett made it this year because it was his time. He made the finals last year, and the Patriots didn't win the Super Bowl. Every indication was that he was going to get in this year.

And how about a certain Washington wide receiver that FINALLY made it this season? How did that happen since he's never made it before, and his team wasn't that successful this season?

Your argument shows nothing but your homerism for Buffalo. To state otherwise is a slap in the face to all reasonable and intelligent people.

It's kind of hard to lead the league in numbers for a linebacker when you're the only good player on a horrible team and you're competing against Lawrence Taylor every year.

February 4, 2008  08:42 PM ET

Don't forget that Tippett played the strongside linebacker which makes it more difficult to pile up sacks because you usually play with a tight end across from you.

How is my argument flawed Varmint???

Cmon now...Im not upset that Reed didnt get in. But do you really think that Tippett deserved to get in BEFORE Derrick Thomas??

February 6, 2008  11:33 AM ET

The HOF inducts between 4 and 7 members each year.....They only inducted 6 this year. Why not give the 7th spot to Carter or Thomas??

Are you saying the DONT deserve in Varmint??

February 6, 2008  11:34 AM ET

Goodell, I can think of 2 reasons Tippet got in that I think have more relevance than the Patriots publicity.

1. Offensive playes have been put in the hall at a 2-1 ratio to defensive players over the past 30 years. Big presentations were made, the voters were addressed and made aware of this oversight, so this year they focused on defense more than offense. 4 defensive players made it 2 offensive this year.

2. The voters saw a boat load of sure fire Hall of Famers coming down the pipeline in the next several years and realized that if they didn't put through the guys who they've been dithering over for the past several years, that they would get crushed out of the voting by guys like Deion Sanders, Emmitt Smith, Bruce Smith, Jerry Rice, etc. That's why Monk, Tippett, and Zimmerman all were shuffled in over players like Chris Carter who is a no-doubter. If they didn't get in now , They wouldn't unless the Senior committee took up their case.

As for me, I don't hate anyone except for the website moderator, who deleted three of my coworkers accounts on here because they voted for me.

February 6, 2008  11:35 AM ET

Goodell, they can only elect 5 modern candidates and 2 seniors committee candidates. They voted yes to the 5 modern, and no to 1 senior committee member. They can't give that last spot to Carter or Thomas.

February 6, 2008  11:36 AM ET

I'll concede that his affiliation with NE could well have contributed to his induction, but I'm not convinced it was the main reason.

February 6, 2008  11:46 AM ET

Pat Swilling was a better LB and he's not in the HOF

I garuntee that if the Pats went 8-8, Tippett would still be on the outstide looking in

February 6, 2008  12:29 PM ET

Forgot about Tippett until KpKahder brought him up

But he deserved mention and getting in, he's like Art Monk of LB's=overlooked
