The Patriots are offically in a Super Bowl slump. They have not won the Super Bowl the last 3 years. That 's 3 years in a row that the Patriots have not won the Super Bowl.
2005: Lost to the Broncos in the Divisional round
2006; Lost to the Colts in the AFC Championship Game
2007: Lost to the Giants in Super Bowl XLII with a 18-0 record coming into the game.
We all have talk about Bill Parcells not winning a Super Bowl without Bill Belichick as his defensive coordinator.
Well Belichick has not won a Super Bowl without Charlie Weis as his offensive coordinator and Romeo Crennel as his defensive coordinator.
Both left to become head coaches after the Patriots won Super Bowl XXXIX against the Eagles.
Weis is the head coach at Notre Dame, and Crennel is the head coach of the Cleveland Browns.
So the Patriots have not won the Super Bowl for 3 straight years. Part of it is Weis and Crennel are not with Bellchick.

The Patriots are in a Super Bowl slump? What? Yes, they haven't won the last two years, but both times were to the Super Bowl champions. In case you have forgotten, New England has won three Super Bowls in the last seven years. That is not a slump, it is a tremendous feat!
You want to know a Super Bowl slump? How about the team I root for, the Vikes. They haven't won one, in say, ever! They are 0-4 in Super Bowls.
The Buffalo Bills lost four Super Bowls in a row, that could be considered a "slump".
Teams who have never won the Super Bowl include: Atlanta, Carolina, San Diego, Seattle, Tennessee, Arizona, New Orleans, Jacksonville and others. All those teams could be in "slumps".
The Patriots have been to four Super Bowls in the last seven years, and they have won three of them. They are in no slump.

Did the Patriots win the Super Bowl in any of the last 3 years? No. They lost to the Broncos in 2005 in the Divisonal round. They lost to the Colts in the AFC Championship Game in 2006 after having a 21-3 lead in that game. And they lost a chance to go 19-0 in the Super Bowl in 2007 to the Giants because their defense allow the Giants to score the game winning touchdown after Tom Brady led the offense to a touchdown drive.
So bottom line is the Patriots have not won the Super Bowl the last 3 seasons. And part of it is Weis and Crennel arae not with Belichick.

So not winning the Super Bowl in three years now is considered a slump? In that case, everyone except the Steelers, Colts and Giants are in slumps. I guess the NFL is just one big slump now.
Look at the standards for New England. For some teams, a .500 record is a success. For others, a playoff birth is good, a division championship is better, and playoff wins are great. Winning your conference gets you a banner, and winning the Super Bowl is a tremendous fear.
The Patriots just went undefeated, and they are in a slump? I don't think so. New England has won the Super Bowl three times in the last seven years.
A Super Bowl slump could consist of Minnesota, Buffalo and Arizona, just to name a few.

The bottom line is the Patriots have not won the Super Bowl the last 3 seasons. They have become the New York Yankees of the NFL. If they don't win the Super Bowl, their season is a failure. And have the Patriots won the last 3 years? No. We are talking about championships here. So that's what I'm talking about. So to recap the Patriots since winning Super Bowl 39 did not win Super Bowl 40, 41, or 42.

If they don't win the Super Bowl the season is a failure? Are you kidding me? They went 18-1!
Super Bowl droughts would work for teams that have never won the Super Bowl, not for ones that haven't won in the last three years. That list includes the: Arizona Cardinals, Detroit Lions, Cleveland Browns, New Orleans Saints, Jacksonville Jaguars, Houston Texans, Atlanta Falcons, Carolina Panthers, San Diego Chargers, Seattle Seahawks, Tennessee Titans, Cincinnati Bengals, Philadelphia Eagles, Buffalo Bills and of course, the Minnesota Vikings.
The Patriots have won three Super Bowls in the last seven years, that is not a slump.

And all those games they have lost, esspecially the last 2, have been close. Who else has been as consistently great as them in this decade? No one.

The Super Bowl losers have traditionaly had a lousy season the following year. Does anyone see New England struggling next year? Not even making the playoffs? I doubt it, but it will be interesting to watch.

wow.. hard to believe you can define a slump as not winning a championship in 3 years.
may wanna check with a few other teams.. 49ers, Cowboys, Packers, Bronco's etc etc etc.
