So far you have to consider Prince Fielder an NL MVP Candidate.

Fielder has been absolutley amazing this season. Although some people expected him to have big numbers like this at some point, I dont think they anticipated it this early. He has been astoudning. Hes currently batting .299 with 21 HRs and 48 RBIS, hes also slugging .647. Apart from that he has help keep his brewers(to my dissatifcation) in the lead in the NL Central. The brewers could ill-afford to have him missing from the lineup because they would be missing so much produciton. Fielder doesnt show any signs of slowing down and definltey has to be considered and NL MVP Canidate so far.

Great argument, he certainly does have the numbers to support it. But the debate isn't whether he should win in based on numbers, but is he an MVP candidate? I say NO...why not? Because unfortunately, he hasn't shown the consistency that superstars show. If he finishes with MVP like number this year and does it again next year, he's a candidate. Unfortunately, the writers are going to take a wait and see attitude, show me a bit more. Is it fair? heck No, but when has MVP voting been fair?

Well if he can lead to the Brewers to the playoffs and keep putting up astronomical numbers he defintley has to be considered one, I mean a batting average hovering right around .300 already 21 homers and 48 RBIs, with his slugging percentage. Without him the brewers would suffer a huge loss. Hes defintley a candidate.

Oh yeah i agree with you on every argument, and he SHOULD be an MVP candidate, but i don't think he'll even be considered for the award regardless simply because there are other (Pujols, Howard, Lee) who've done it before. He simply won't be considered a candidate till year 2, it's just POLITICS

I think he will be considered for it, I mean look at Ryan Howard last year, and his team didnt even make the playoffs, its almost the same scenario, a young power-hitting first baseman making his mark.

I certainley hope so, Cecil Fielder is one of my favs...the guy's built just like his father!!
I just think with the politics involved it will really come down to the top 3-4 regulars
1) Pujols
2) Delgado (needs to pick it up a bit though)
3) Maybe Howard if he picks it up
4) Both D and C Lee

he leads the NL in homers and is tied with A-Rod for most. who is better in the NL?

June 7, 2007  02:55 PM ET

No one's better...but i didn't say you shouldn't win...i said he won't be considered a candidate for MVP, at least for this year....it's just politics man, that's all

June 7, 2007  02:58 PM ET

Nah I think he will, It was a good throwdown though man. But he defintley is, I mean look at Howard from last year.

June 7, 2007  03:04 PM ET

yeah i know...i took the throwdown just to see if i could win it from a debate point of view.....thanks man!
quite honestly, i think Prince will be considered if he keeps it up.

haha lol well it was a good throwdown, i liked it because you werent ignorant or anythign like some people on this sight. I mean the votings like 10-1 or 9-1 right now , you can just let it play out, or forfeit idc.
