I would have to say it was the Packers. After last years finish at 8-8 i would have been happy with a wildcard and they ended up one bad pass away from the Super Bowl.

Make main arguements 2nd and 3rd

The Packers were a surprise, but I have to go with the Cleveland Browns.

They went 4-12 last year, but were 10-6 this year. Cleveland went from being one of the worst teams in the league to almost making the playoffs.

Another surprise: the New York Giants. How many people saw them winning the Super Bowl?

ya i would say that but i would say that nobody saw the youngest team in the league to play as impressive as they did all season. The Browns did not even make the playoffs. Also going i would say the Rams were more if a surprise than them cause nobody would have thought they would be so bad. they Packers finished 14-4 which is 6 the same amount of win improvement yet they made the playoffs.

The Packers ended last year on a four game win streak. Also, they had players people had heard of: Brett Favre, Donald Driver, Nick Barnett, Charles Woodson, etc. The Packers were 8-8 and had some good players. The Browns were 4-12 and were known for their losing ways.

Who had ever heard of Derek Anderson? This guy went from nobody to Pro-Bowler. Josh Cribbs was relatively unknown. How many fans expected Braylon Edwards to have the season that he had? The Browns were largely a team of guys people knew nothing about and they went 10-6 and nearly made the playoffs.

The Packers were a surprise, but not as big of a surprise as the Cleveland Browns.

Well they do have Jamal Lewis who has proven to be a great no 1 back. Also the Packers are the youngest team in the league average and Brett Favre does not help that. dont say Favre was the reason they were good cause Rodgers really stepped it up in the Dallas game. Plus who thought Favre would be the only other player to get an mvp vote and McCarthy would get second in coach of year. The Browns had a great surprirse year but they could not finish at the end and even though it was the NFC the Packers still made the championship game. The Browns also had veterans like Willie McGinest.

"Don't say that Favre was the reason they were good cause Rodgers really stepped it up in the Dallas game"

WHAT?????

Let me get this straight. Rodgers comes in for one game, and the Packers lose the game. And he is the reason that the Packers did what they did? Seriously???

Favre has won three MVP awards, and the Packers went 8-8 last year and won their last four games.

The Browns finished last year 4-12. They were a team that was affiliated with losing and nobody, I mean nobody thought that the Browns would go 10-6. It is a huge surprise when a team can be terrible one year, and then go 10-6 and just miss the playoffs the next year.

Their team included: Derek Anderson who may people said, plain and simple; Who? Braylon Edwards, a receiver many people thought would do nothing. Kellen Winslow, who was more famous for his injuries than his NFL stats. Josh Cribbs, one of the best returners in the league who was unknown almost everywhere except Cleveland. The Browns were a team of guys nobody knew, and they had an excellent season.

The Packers were a surprise, and going 8-8 to 13-3 was good. But the Browns went from 4-12 to 10-6. They were the NFL surprise team of the year.

DAMN missed it by a second, could of easily won. (Browns)

February 20, 2008  11:25 PM ET

Giants. No one even thought about them mopping up the confetti after the superbowl.

February 20, 2008  11:25 PM ET

I disagree Elway, prior to this season, when is the last time the Browns and winning came in the same thought

February 20, 2008  11:26 PM ET

both teams improved significantly....one just did it in the NFL and the other AFC...i believe it would be harder to do such in the AFC...

February 20, 2008  11:36 PM ET

I have to say the Browns over the Packers....because really....who saw Derek Anderson coming?

February 20, 2008  11:42 PM ET

true but who saw brett favre being so good this year

February 20, 2008  11:49 PM ET

The Brett Favre fanatics always expect him to do good.

February 20, 2008  11:57 PM ET

i meant NFC...not NFL....

February 21, 2008  12:16 AM ET

Browns didn't make the playoffs. Sure they started hot but sort of fell flat at the end. How about Tampa Bay? The Giants is a good pick. Most thought Eli would be getting cut and Coughlin getting fired at this time right now not waiting for their rings to arrive. I would say the Packers were a bigger surprise since no one thought they make the play offs or the Bears for the wrong reasons.

February 21, 2008  01:05 AM ET

Yeah but bucky, seriously. Browns, winning? When? Although I also agree with the giants

February 21, 2008  04:17 AM ET

The Browns by far. Before this season you could go ahead a put on W on the calendar befor ever playing them. Anderson and Edwards were outstanding this season. My second pick would be the Giants. Yeah they got talent but to win on the road like that with Burress less than a 100% and how about that rookie RB Bradshaw, he really stepped up anr really contributed to their superbowl run.

February 21, 2008  07:44 AM ET

Anderson was not outstanding. An 82.5 rating and 19 picks do not qualify as outstanding. His rating was 17th out of 33 QBs- That's not even in the top half. 19 Picks was tied for 4th most in the league.

He was good, I'll give him that. And he has the potential to improve, but 2007 needs to be put in perspective.

February 21, 2008  08:33 AM ET

Giants easily - they were picked to finish dead last in the NFC East by most "experts".

February 21, 2008  08:40 AM ET

Definitely the Giants, but considering both teams being argued, the Browns are more surprising. Green Bay was 8-8 and on the verge of the playoffs last year, and won five more games this season. Cleveland on the other was an abysmal 4-12 and turned it around to win 6 more games than in 2006-07.

February 21, 2008  12:00 PM ET

SteveO said "i believe it would be harder to do such in the AFC..."

A lot of folks keep trumpeting how much better the AFC is than the NFC. It's simply no longer true. The two conferences went 32-32 in the regular season. In the AFC the Colts and Patriots went undefeated, in the NFC only the Pack did. But the NFC took home the big prize. So I believe the word is 'parity'

February 21, 2008  12:14 PM ET

Oooooooooohh, nice choices. But I'll have to go with the Browns, because, well, they ARE the Browns. And since the Cowboys pick was riding on them sucking it up, I was almost sure the 'Boys would have a top 5 pick. But, Andersen came out of nowhere to lead them to 10-6. At least Green Bay had Favre.

February 21, 2008  01:46 PM ET

You are both wrong. The Giants Superbowl run was more surprising than any team's improvement.

February 21, 2008  04:06 PM ET

-Says the Giants fan. 2pts for loyalty, but that's it.

February 21, 2008  11:13 PM ET

no the packers finished 14-4 since they actually made the playoffs

February 21, 2008  11:17 PM ET

The Giants were the biggest surprise. They have a ding **** for a head coach. He is angry and red all of the time, and had to be told by the owner to treat his players better. That's no good. Their QB has a serious case of little brother syndrom and mopes around everywhere. Shockey is a cry baby. Michael Strahan has more drama around him than Days of Our Lives. WR's with questionable heart and courage to try and make a play. Plus they are from New York. For them to even make it to the playoffs was a shocker so to win it all, that was a surprise.
