If the Mets don't make the Playoffs this year Wille Randolph should be fired.

The 2008 Baseball season is a very important for Mets manager Willie Randolph.

The last 2 years the Mets in 2006 lost to the Cardinals in the NLCS, a team they were better than but got hot at the right time. And then last year they had the greatest collapse in the history of baseball by blowing a 7 game lead to the Phillies twice.

In the off-season the Mets got probably the best pitcher in baseball in Johan Santana.

Recently, Mets Owner Fred Wilpon said this team should go deep in the Playoffs. Which means anything less than a World Series win is a failure.

And if somehow the Mets don't make the Playoffs, then Randolph should be fired.

Ok..I can understand your point of view. I gather you're a Met fan.

This team first of all isn't perfect. Some of your big hitters are getting up there and the middle relief is still very shallow. People seem to be forgetting that. While Santana was a great addition, he's only one guy. Pedro isn't the most dependable guy. Neither is Perez and Hernandez.

Like you said, in 2006 they got beat by the hottest team at the time. In 2007, I don't think it was Randolph's fault. What could he do? His pitchers couldn't last 2 innings, the bullpen was tired beyond belief, and the hitters couldn't get the big hit. The whole team played horribly. Can't put all the blame on his shoulders.

It's also not like the Mets have no competition. Phillies won the division and improved their rotation by putting Myers back in there because they picked up Lidge. Even the Braves are a team to watch. This division is not an easy win.

Ever since the Mets acquired Johan Santana, everybody is pointing to the Mets as the best team in the National League. I say the Mets have not won a thing. The thing we have seem with the Mets is they weren't able to finish. They weren't able to beat the Cardinals in the NLCS in 2006. And they couldn't hold on to the lead in the NL East, and end up missing the Playoffs and the Phillies won the division. So now since they acquired Santana, the Mets have been pick to win the NL by everybody. Willie Randolph has to get this team to play like they are the favortive. Otherwise he will be unemploye if they don't make the playoffs.

"hey weren't able to beat the Cardinals in the NLCS in 2006."

You have to remember in the playoffs, no one beat the Cardinals. It's not like they lost the next round. They won the WS that year. Should Leyland be fired too because he lost to them?

I realize that the Mets are the sexy pick now, but that doesn't mean everything. Once again, last year the whole team fell apart. That wasn't all Willie's fault. There wasn't much he can do the way the team was playing. This year they got a fantastic pitcher but this team has flaws that still need to be fixed.

Las Vegas odds makers have made the Mets the 2nd choice behind the Red Sox to win th World Series. That tells you that the Mets are the favorite.

Ok good for them. Not the favorite to win it all. The Red Sox are. What matters is on the field. And the Mets aren't invincable on the field. Wille can't help that.

Easy vote to Coletrain here. The first pitch hasn't even been thrown yet and you are already blaming Randolph if the Mets fail to make the post season. A LOT can happen over the course of a very long season to cause a pre season favorite to miss the playoffs, most of which have nothing to do with the manager.

Wasn't the same thing being said last year?

he won't be fired because they will make the playoffs.
