It is insane the first two round should be best of 5 not 7 the playoffs last forever. That is why the ratings are so low because nobody cares anymore after two months. How can anyone sustain interest in something like this for two years. I am as big of fan as anyone of teh NBA but i can't sustain interest for this long. No season should should last 8 months. That is insane.

The NBA Playoffs this year did not have the problem of long (7 game) series in the early rounds. The Warriors- Mavs would have ended too soon. NBA playoffs problem this season was that the teams that made it deeper into the playoffs are not half as entertaining as many that got knocked out early (the 2 already mentioned, Denver, Houston). If anything the later series including the finals should have been knocked down to five.

How could anyone like a tho month mini season. THe east which sucks the series suck because. Like the Detroit and Cleveland series which was one of the ugliest and most boring series that I ahve ever personally seen. These should be tkane down to five games. Players hate how long the playoffs are. Two months of continual analysis of the playoffs is to much to handle. THey could also keep the 7 game series then play them everyday and only have travel days off. Right now they are way to long.

Detroit and Cleveland played in the Conference Championship- 3rd Round of the Playoffs. That's not in the first 2 rounds and it's exactly what I'm saying.

What are you trying to say. Two months of talking matchups and anticipation. It seems almost unbearable these days. It is unbearable the NBA needs to do something to make the secong season(playoffs) shorter. It is obvious that fans don't like it anymore. Lowest ratings in NBA playoffs. That is not just due to bad play either. People are down right tired of the playoffs and just want it to end. NCAA has it right have a huge tournament in march or April and don't let it drag on forever.

You only think they last too long because the series themselves were not entertaining past the first 2 rounds. If you are swept up in an exciting series you could care less that it took the extra couple days to finish. If you cut down the first 2 rounds we would have missed- Utah-Houston Game 7, and Phoenix-San Antonio Game 6. They might have been as exciting as 5 gamers but why chance it? 5 game series were already proven to be ineffective at obtaining the revenue and exposure possible for the NBA. And having 5 game series wouldn???t eliminate travel days. You have to take days off in between to rest and you have to account for every series to go as many games as possible.

It's too long because they give a day off in between each game and like three days if they have to travel. The off days are the reason it lasts too long.

June 13, 2007  03:14 PM ET

Too many off days, too many games, and a weak Eastern Conference make the Playoffs unbearable to watch.

June 13, 2007  03:16 PM ET

I found the solution to this problem by never watching the NBA.

June 13, 2007  03:23 PM ET

If a series is great the extra couple days it takes to finish don't matter. It's the quality of play, not actual length of time that is making the playoffs seem long.

June 13, 2007  03:26 PM ET

Honestly...I've always liked best of 5 series as an option for all rounds of playoffs in the NBA and NFL...and I have simple mathematics for it.

Regular Season:
NFL season = 16 games
NBA & NHL = 82

The NHL & NBA seasons have just over 5 times more games but we'll keep it at 5 because you can't play a part of a game. So, if the NFL playoff rounds are a best of 1....why not multiply that for the NHL/NBA and have all series as a best of 5?

Word.

June 13, 2007  03:26 PM ET

I believe best of 5's would increase the urgency of each game...thus making the games better. More drama for your mama.

June 13, 2007  03:35 PM ET

Armchair- I can see that argument for a 3 game series but for a 5 there are still travel days and it could last just as long as a 7. How much more urgent exactly? I know it's the NBA but how much do teams actually slack during the playoffs?

June 13, 2007  03:43 PM ET

the nba sucks go nhl

June 13, 2007  03:45 PM ET

I was thinking for the fans perspective....tv audiences etc etc....not the players.

June 13, 2007  03:53 PM ET

Clearly there's not time limit. I wouldn't have anwered that fast. Arm- the players think they never slack off. And if a series is great you won't care that it took 3 more days to complete.

June 13, 2007  04:03 PM ET

The only sport that can pull off a successful 7 game series is baseball, because the games take so long anyways.

June 13, 2007  05:30 PM ET

Football needs 3 out of 5 games.

June 14, 2007  12:00 PM ET

I care when it's June and the winter sports are still in their playoffs...it's like...dude....June.....hockey....dude....no.

And I love hockey.

Best of 5 and a 72 game schedule in the NHL trims about a month off the schedule.

June 14, 2007  12:02 PM ET

And that's a good thing.

June 14, 2007  12:03 PM ET

Low ratings aren't due to bad play they're due to boring play. And the fans liked it more every other year than they did this one because they din't realize how long they were until now? Snowball effect? And NCAA has nothing to do with this unless you're suggesting the NBA adopts that system. If I get a few more votes I will have won the war but lost the fight because (including myself) almost everyone agrees with your title. I just wanted to argue for it.

June 14, 2007  12:08 PM ET

As for the players don't like how long it is- If 60% of them want to have a 1 game winner take all playoff does that mean the league should do it? I speculate that the players would argue against you also and want 3 game series all the way through. Why give up that money?

June 14, 2007  12:15 PM ET

NBA-Playoffs - Yes
NFL Playoffs - I wish the whole season were longer inclucing the playoffs.

June 14, 2007  03:19 PM ET

First of all, the NFL playoffs cannot be made into a series because you need much more time to rest from a football game. That would take way too long. I find it hard to believe anyone thinks that a great series of 7 is better than a great series of 5. The greatest World Series ever was won in 7 unbelievably close games, the 1991 series between the Twins and Braves. I know baseball and basketball are different; if it's about entertainment, Rage is right, none of you would complain about seeing, say, the Wizards (healthy) take on the Warriors in the Finals. But the Spurs aren't entertaining (since when was being a dominant champion for years not entertaining?), and so people think that the series lasts too long. But I do agree with whoever said NCAA is the way to go; one big tournament of do or die games.

June 14, 2007  03:29 PM ET

thanks for the NCAA tournament comment. I agree with you on Football. Baeball though is something that is entirely different. THe first round is best of five which is good. And there are no travel days except in the World Series. I love watching the Spurs play their team effort is extremely fun to watch actually. The two months though is just so long. As it is now the East teams are nowhere near as good as the west teams which also ads to the being boring. We could bascially not hve th finals and give the championchip to the west team. except last year but that was an exception not the rule.
