Leyland wins with young and developing talent. The Tigers got big heads about their recent success, and went out and spent millions of dollars on players that Leyland can't coach. This is a team that was recently in the World Series with a bunch of no-names, and now hasn't won a game with a bunch of egos and pampered millionaires.

Plus, lets be honest. Detroit is a city where you can't find a job, and now they have to charge increased admission to fans that soon won't be able to afford to attend. That money has to come from somewhere.

Detroit ruined everything by overspending.

No......No......No.......

6 games into the season and you are saying Leyland cant coach these guys????

Get a grip.......Its not like they are 0-15 or 0-20.......They have 156 games left to play......

Of those 6 losses, they got swept by the Chi Sox (no crime there) and the hot Royals......Just because their offense hasnt started clicking doesnt mean they are done......Only 1 of those losses was embarrassing, a 13-2 loss to the Sox......

As of Feb 2008, the unemployment rate was 7.2% in Detroit.......While that may lead the nation, it doesnt necessarily mean much......California (my home state) has long been higher in unemployment than the national average (http://www.frbsf.org/publications/economics/letter/2003/el2003-05.html) but the Dodgers and Angels have never really suffered due to it......

Why???

Because the poor and down and out dont go to the games......They watch at home on TV.......The people that attend are the people that have stable jobs and can afford to spend on the luxury of a sporting event.......

Yes, I am saying that Leyland can't coach these guys. I guess you are missing the point of looking where Leyland has been successful. In Florida, with a group of young talent that needed his mentoring. In Detroit with a group of young talent that needed his mentoring. So the Detroit ownership gets all full of themselves and goes out and overspends on a bunch of pampered millionaires, who do not respond to Jim Leyland's style of management. They've tried to become the Yankees, when they went to the World Series OVER the Yankees by being exactly the opposite of them

And if leading the nation in unemployment doesn't mean anything to you, then I don't know what to tell you. But I can tell you that in Detroit, you didn't see the wealthy.

As for comparing Detoit to Los Angeles....well, I guess you've never been to Detroit.

I think it is the pressure of the high expactations and the boo's they recieved in the first series, anyways, I'll vote for dj.

I would say it is a good thing to spend money for good players if you have it . . . besides, Jim Leyland is the manager and he doesn't make trades, the GM does.

"This is a team that was recently in the World Series with a bunch of no-names, and now hasn't won a game with a bunch of egos and pampered millionaires. " Your talking about the ONLY guy that managed Barry Bonds while he wasn't a huge distraction...

its going to dj

I dont think the mods hate you. Just hate your throwdowns. Vote right.

This is definitely a vote for DJ. It's 6 games and the TD'er on the left is going off the deep-end.

Yepper Frasca, the only guy that managed Barry Bonds while he wasn't a huge distraction. Also, the only guy that managed Barry Bonds BEFORE he became a pampered millionaire and a HUGE distraction. Amazing. You type something that EXACTLY fits my point, and vote for the other guy.

I have a good question though, for all of the geniuses here on Fannation. Where in DJ's argument did he argue the TOPIC of this throwdown? The topic is "The Tiger's Biggest Problem". He listed problem.....none.

They're like the sixth or seventh best team in the majors, they're going to lose games, these have just come in a row and at the beginning of the season.

April 8, 2008  05:03 PM ET

Yeah, no doubt that oh-for-the-season makes them the 6th or 7th best team in the majors. That's just a frigging brilliant statement.

Well, even though you stopped discussing, and even though you never even told anyone what you thought the Tiger's problem is.....you're winning. Shocker!
