First list who your top 2 canidates and argue 2nd

1. Koske Fukudome
2. Geovany Soto

I'll say the NL ROY will come from the Reds.

Either

1. Johnny Cueto
2. Jay Bruce
3. Joey Votto
4. Homer Bailey

1. Johhny Cueto- Cueto, largely considered the #1 pitching prospect this year, started the year off with a bang, striking out 10, walking 0, and getting the win in 7 Innings. He had a perfect game through 5 innings, and hsi only run allowed was a HR to fellow ROY candidate Justin Upton. He used his 96 MPH fastball and electrifying breaking stuff. This guy is filthy, and pitching on an improving Reds team should help.

2. Jay Bruce- Think Evan Longoria is good? Well, Jay Bruce is the only prospect rated ahead of Longoria by Baseball Prospectus. He's starting the year in the minors like Longoria, but that shouldn't stop him from producing. He's been a minor league all star in 2006 and 2007, and was named Minor League player of the year in 2007.

3. Joey Votto- Votto has the benefit of already having the starting job at 1st. He is rated as having the best power and strike zone discipline out of all Reds minor league prospects.

4. Homer Bailey- Bailey is considered the #2 prospect in the Reds organization, and a top 5 pitching prospect. More to come.......

Ok, guess I'll just disprove your picks then.

1st Geovany Soto- I'll bring up the history argument here. It has been 15 years since the last cacher won a ROY, with Mike Piazza taking home the prize in 1993. Cathcer is also one of the hardest posions historically to win the ROY, only behind Closers (relatively new position) and 2nd base. This year should be no exception, especially since Soto is A) not as polished offensively as many other rookies, and B) there is another top catching rookie in J.R. Towles, who is considered a better hitter and higher rated prospect overall.

2nd Kosuke Fukudome- Kosuke is certainly more likely to win the NL ROY than Soto, as Japanese imports have great success with this award, winning 3 awards, the last NL one being in 1995 with Hideo Nomo. However, only one hitter (Ichiro) has won, and Ichiro is certainly a better player than Fukudome. Kosuke batted .305 with 192 HR's and 71 Steals in 9 years in Japan. Good stats, but not superb, and you can surely expect his average to drop against superior pitching in the MLB. Even Ichiro's career average went down .22 in the switch, from .355 to .333. And Ichiro had the same HR's as KF, 192 in 1 more year

I think TDs should be argued when taken.

April 8, 2008  09:14 AM ET

Porkins...you and I have a TD to do....

April 8, 2008  09:30 AM ET

Guys, sorry that my number one priority in life isn't TD's..... I know MAc was joking, but, just so ya know Porky

April 8, 2008  09:39 AM ET

I got crap for taking one and waiting an hour to do it because I had lunch last week.

April 8, 2008  09:51 AM ET

wat about Nate McLouth from the Pirates? Is he a rookie? If so, he should be in consideration so far. He has been about the only bright spot in that lineup.

April 8, 2008  09:54 AM ET

Are you on crack gonets? What about Xavier Nady? Game winning home run in the twelfth of the opener, and then another game winning single in the twelfth two days later.

April 8, 2008  09:55 AM ET

Ian Snell dominated on Saturday. Zach Duke played a great game last week.

And none of these guys are rookies.

April 8, 2008  10:26 AM ET

Soto?!?! Are you kidding me??

April 8, 2008  10:53 AM ET

Amazing call for soto. Im pretty sure that johnny estrada could steal on soto. He couldnt throw out my grandma with a walker.

April 8, 2008  11:01 AM ET

SOTO??? Are you a moron? Soto couldnt block one of my pitches! and i throw mid 60's hey man, not dissing the cubs cause im a fan, but geo isnt even in the running, he'll be in AAA at the end of the year

April 8, 2008  02:37 PM ET

'Are you on crack gonets? What about Xavier Nady? Game winning home run in the twelfth of the opener, and then another game winning single in the twelfth two days later.'

I'm guessing that's sarcasm, cause Nady has been around for year...

April 8, 2008  04:13 PM ET

Fukudome has been contributing with with both his glove and bat ever since day 1. He has great D, shows great discipline at the plate, bailed us out at times, and can really throw off teams, as evidenced by his bunt that turned out to be a hit. Everyone was so shocked he did that that nobody fielded the ball, and that was important. Thus far, he is quite deserving of the NL ROY.

April 8, 2008  10:10 PM ET

Nady and Mclouth are both not rookies... NAdy's been around for a few years.....

April 9, 2008  09:13 AM ET

cubs/bears, this far into the season means nothing, this far into the season last year Braun was in the minors and Tulowitzki was batting .180. Yeah he's been good, but its been about 8 games.... Pitchers will figure him out, and his average will shrink considerably.

April 11, 2008  04:51 PM ET

sry i was on vacation so i missed both arguements

April 11, 2008  11:36 PM ET

no problem
