OK GirlieGirl (if you really are, and just in case - I am not interested). Let's discuss the current NFL playoff format.

Were the Bears one of the best 2 teams last year? I think not. The two best teams, one from each conference, are supposed to play in the Superbowl. That did not happen in the last one. Or arguably the one before that, and so on. How about we change the playoff format so the the two best teams in the league will have a better chance of meeting in the Superbowl? I have an idea of how.

I will take this one, I can't believe you challeneged me.....the playoffs are not about the two best teams, who decides that ohhh wait those players on the field do, they decide by outworking and outplaying the other team. Do I think the Bears were best in the NFC sure do, do I think Inday was best in AFC yup, why because they beat everyone in the playoffs to get there, if as you claim the team is not best, then they will get beat. I see nothing wrong with the NFL playoff system.....

As usual people are jumping way ahead assuming that I think we should scrap the playoffs. Yes, the better team usually wins, not always, but usually. I think we should leave the numbers of teams the way they are. Each division winner and 2 wildcards. The top teams still get their byes and the teams with better records still get to host a game. Before I present my final argument and explain my madness, wouldn't you have rather seen an Indy-NE, NE-SD, Indy-Baltimore?

I think we saw Indy NE, and NE SD, didn't we or did I miss parker dropping that pass? Did I miss NE almost winning that game against Indy...listen the facts are this, the best teams go based off record. THE NFL PLAYOFFS are probably the best postseason setup...hands down

Ok, this is my last shot. As I said the base format stays the same. However, teams are ranked 1 - 12 based on records. The top 4 still get their byes. The top 6 host the games. The rest proceeds as it is now, except we get more intriguing matchups. Teams will still fight for the best records. The tie-breakers for seeding remains the same. Instead of 2 separate 6 team seedings, it is all 12. I think this would create more interesting matchups. Now, you need to make a REAL argument to keep it as is

More intriguing matchups? Whats more intriguing then you win you move on you lose see you next season. THE NFL MERGED, and its supposed to be the best AFC team against the best NFC team, in your scenerio you would could have two AFC teams playing in the SB? what, and erase the leagacy of the AFL? Also we know the SB has been lopsided but thats why we watch the playoffs, great games happen int he NFC and AFC championship all the time, maybe thats why we view the SB as a let down sometimes but no way does this make any semblence of sense. Girls rule (just in this case lol)

Nothing wrong with the playoffs.

June 15, 2007  02:30 PM ET

is there something wrong with the system? i didn't think so, that's why there is so much gripe about the NCAA changing to their format

June 15, 2007  02:32 PM ET

Absolutely no need to change the NFL playoffs, only thing i would do is maybe go back to one week between the AFC/NFC championships and the Superbowl, the games have been a little sloppy the last few years

June 15, 2007  02:34 PM ET

Don't challange GirlieGirl for an easy win. She knows her sports.

June 15, 2007  02:39 PM ET

Nothing wrong with the playoffs at all.

June 15, 2007  02:39 PM ET

The Super Bowl isn't about the 2 best teams, it's about the best team from each conference. That's abundantly clear from the scheduling format as well as the seeding format. This is supposed to be two merged leagues, who each determine a champion and face those champs off for ultimate supremacy. If the AFC Championship game ends up being more exciting than the Super Bowl, that's fine.

the playoffs are where upests can happen,it closes stores, lifts cites, stop a war and changes the world. the playoffs are great.

June 15, 2007  03:04 PM ET

Nothing wrong with the NFL playoff format it's the NCAA's we need to change.

June 15, 2007  03:05 PM ET

Not that I want to get into a Throwdown about that.

June 15, 2007  03:06 PM ET

I am happy with the way the playoffs turned out. In the end the best teams showed up, played their hearts out. CHI clearly had a great defense, which carried them to the SB, but lost due to turnovers by a shaky QB. The Colts won a classic vs. NE, and dominated the Bears. Great format, don't change it!

June 15, 2007  03:08 PM ET

HarryCat hows the manhood doin right now? Wana get into a throwdown that it is pretty much nonexistant...?

June 15, 2007  03:11 PM ET

I'm not afraid of anyone or any challenge. I am just presenting my opinions. That's what these blogs are. Only opinions.

June 15, 2007  03:47 PM ET

the volatility and "chance" any team in the playoffs have is what make them so great. It is by far the best format employed by ANY american pro sports league. The format has turned the NFL into a marketing juggernaut

June 15, 2007  04:31 PM ET

What the hell is this guy trying to say?

We just take the two teams with the best records?

June 15, 2007  04:32 PM ET

Get to your argument faster. It sounds like you want to seed all teams regardless of conference and go from there. If so I think that is stupid. Best AFC Team vs Best NFC Team. The league seems popular enough and the Super Bowl is over 40 years old. No reason to change it.

June 15, 2007  04:39 PM ET

This is just embarassing. Just forfeit.

June 15, 2007  04:49 PM ET

also I am sure people much smarter then us about football have seen that this system is hands down the best and works....

June 15, 2007  04:58 PM ET

wow you are pathetic harrycat. what is wrong with the format. i hope you aren't a lawyer.

June 15, 2007  05:11 PM ET

You people are so gullible... I got 20+ comments and 55 votes (and counting) on a topic that has no reason being debated. The playoff format has been working this way for over 40 years and has done extremely well. Why would we need to change it? Thank you all for participating in my research project. I'm sure my professor will appreciate my thesis on "Mob Mentality When One Is Using the Internet Anonymously". Oh and GirlieGirl, consider using proper debating arguments rather than merely rewording the same statement. Good job anyway, I would give you a B- if this were your research paper.
