The rules are that in making this lineup, you must use a player of each position and each batting order spot. Ex. you must 7have a clean-up hitter batting fourth or a lead-off hitter at first. Opening Day Rosters:
1. Hanley Ramirez - SS, Florida Marlins
2. Josh Hamilton - CF, Texas Rangers
3. Prince Fielder - 1B, Milwaukee Brewers
4. Victor Martinez - C, Cleveland Indians
5. Miguel Cabrera - 3B, Detroit Tigers
6. Carlos Lee - LF, Houston Astros
7. Brad Hawpe - RF, Colorado Rockies
8. Robinson Cano - 2B, New York Yankees
Same rules apply with pitchers, still opening day roster:
SP - Jake Peavy, San Diego Padres
SP - Fausto Carmona, Cleveland Indians
SP - Johnny Cueto, Cincinatti Reds
SP - Hiroki Kuroda, Los Angeles Dodgers
SP - Dontrelle Willis, Detroit Tigers
CP - Jonathon Papelbon, Boston Red Sox

1. Jimmy Rollins- SS

3. David Wright- 3B
4. Ryan Howard- 1B
5. Torri Hunter- CF
6. Brian McCann- C
7. Hideki Matsui- LF
8. Robinson Cano- 2B
SP- Brandon Webb
SP- Dan Haren
SP- Chad Billingsley

CP- Takashi Saito
I tried to create as many differences as possible...

First I will go with the pitching:
I picked Jake Peavy ahead of Brandon Webb because Peavy was better than Webb at almost every pitching catagory last year. Webb didn't have that Triple Crown when he won his Cy Young in 2006. Plus, Webb has bad offense to help him win games - Peavy has NONE.
I picked Fausto Carmona over Dan Haren because Fausto came out of no where last year and pitched geat all season long while Haren pitched good in the first half then struggled in the second.
I picked Johnny Cueto ahead of Chad Billingsley because Billingsley has had only one good year - one average year also. He is going to need a few more good years like that - which he might but Cueto is young and ha smor eupside for the future.
I was thinking about John Maine but I chose Hiroki Kuroda instead. I know, the Japan league is weaker but Maine has only been an average pitcher in the MLB. Kuroda has been fabulous in Japan.
I chose Dontrelle Willis over Clay Buchholz because I didn't think that one no-hitter should buy you a name. Willis had one bad year but his other years were Cy Young caliber seasons.
I chose Papelbon over Saito because Papelbon had a lower ERA last year.

I too will go with pitching.
Peavy may have won the triple crown, but we cannot forget he had a 4.01 ERA two years ago, and only won 11 while losing 14. I chose Webb because he is consistent every year, in fact he has a lower lifetime ERA than Peavy.
And Actually, Peavy had a much higher run support than Brandon Webb. Webb got only 4.38 runs per game, where Peavy got 5.84. It's a common misconception, but I thought I would correct it.
Fausto had ONE good year. Haren has been a good pitcher for awhile. Not only did Haren have better stats last year, Fausto recorded a 1-10 season in 06. With a 5.42 ERA...not very consistent.
How do you know Cueto is good? He has pitched in 3 games...total! Hitters just havent seen his stuff, after a month into the season he will begin to slow and down and get beat. Billingsley posted a 12-5 record, a 3.5 ERA and had a decent season. Billingsley is actually proven!
Again, Kuroda hasnt been seen yet, after awhile hitters will figure him out, and he will start to get shelled.
More to come...

I picked Hanley Ramirez over Jimmy Rollins for a few reasons. One of them was just plain better stas. Rollins had one more homerun than Ramirez but Ramirez had a way better average, more steals, and a few other catagories. I don't know how Rollins won.
I chose Josh Hamilton over Alex Rios because Rios' stats are not that spectacular. Many considered last year a "breakout year" but he still is a ways from being a perenial All-Star. Hamilton wil lbe one soon, he has the power to smack 40 homeruns.
I think Prince Fielder is better than David Wright because Wright is somewhat overated and only had one great year when people are acting like he had ten. Fielder, on the other hand, led all rookies in homeruns in 2006 and became the youngest person to hit 50 last year.
I picked Victor Martinez ahead of Ryan Howard and Brian McCann because both of your players had off years last year while Martinez has always been consistent in his career and blasted 25 last year.
Miguel Cabrera is one of the best young stars in baseball, a future Hall of Famer, he deserves to be up there.
Lee and Hawpe combined for more runs batted in and more homers than Hunter and Matsui in 2007 hits

Ok. Actually stolen bases and BA were his only wins over Rollins. Rollins hit .296, 30 HR. 94 RBI, and 41 SB. He had a higher Slugging and a slightly lower OBP. A better stat line than Ramirez.
I'd say 85 RBI's and 24 HR's with 17 SB is a fairly good breakout year. And he was an All-Star last year! Hamilton is all potential, I'd rather have an experienced all-star than a fledgling player.
You're fielder vs. wright makes absolutley no sense. Wright has had over 25 HR's the past 3 years, 30 last year. He has never batted under .300 since his rookie year. He has always had over 100 RBI's. I dont think that is just ONE good year!
You have it backwards, Fielder had one good year. He hit 28 HR's his first year, a decent number. But then he hit 50 HR's...conclusion-ONE GOOD YEAR!
I personally dont think 40 HR's and 136 RBI's is an off year...But if you do thats alright. And McCann had 18 HR's and 91 RBI's, both of my players were equal or better than yours.
Miguel is one of the best, but he is starting off very slowly and I dont think he should be on the list right now.

is this for 2007 stats, or 2008?

i agree more with dawgee on hitting but with controversy on pitching, except for the fact that he choose bucholz, so what if he threw a no hitter, the kid threw his arm out in one game, and just cuz he's famous doesn't mean there aren't better pitchers

Report Offensive Commentdude, read the rules...
You could only use a pitcher from each rotation slot...I used Bucholz because he is the only good #5 pitcher in the MLB. You cant have every pitcher be a #1...those are the rules.

It seems a little harsh that if your favorite player isnt recognized that you dont vote...
