Mt. Rushmore of...

Active NBA PG's.

Chris Paul (bookend)
Deron Williams
Chauncey Billups
Jason Kidd (bookend)

STS's picks are as follows:

Chris Paul (bookend)
Deron Williams
Baron Davis
Steve Nash (bookend)

We are re-doing this TD because I screwed up the last one, thank you STS.

OK, we got Billups vs. Davis...this should be fun.

Billups is a consumate professional. He's already won a ring (against Kobe and Shaq, I might add). Plus, when he won that ring he was a key part of the championship team. He won the Finals MVP in that series.

The Pistons have made the playoffs every year that Billups has been there. They have gotten past the first round everytime, and to the conference semifinals 5 years in a row.

Billups has been a key in their success. He's the team captain, and he's also one of the catalysts for their always great D. Here are his defensive achievements:

2004-05 NBA All-Defense Second Team
2005-06 NBA All-Defense Second Team

In the 2005-06 season he made the All-NBA Second Team. He's been an all-star for three consecutive years.

Ok so you put Kidd in instead of Nash i hope you meant to do that dont know if i have anymore free ones in my pocket i will leave that argument for my 2nd one though...

Lets start with looking at the teams... you cant say that it has only been Billups who has lead that team to 5 conference finals... They have had 4 of the same starters now for 5 years how many other teams can say that not many.

You cant argue stats since Baron sweeps everything from points to steals to assists to rebounds to blocks (be it by a small margin but still)

And yes Billups has lead them to 5 conference finals but other then that 1 year they have yet to get the job done. They won 1 championship but what have they really done since then they have been consistent i will give them that but not consitent enough to get the job done he couldnt even lead them passed the 1 man Cavs last year if thats saying anything.

Davis on the other hand dont have much of a team behind him if you compare it to the Pistons. Yet he lead them to a first round victory over the #1 seed Mavericks who many had picked before the playoffs even began to win it all. Put Davis on the Pistons they win atleast 1 more.

"Put Davis on the Pistons they win atleast 1 more. "

Oh my god, I can't stop laughing! Let's just say, Davis is "defensively-challenged". Do you honestly believe in that statement?

The Detroit Pistons are built around defense. Chauncey Billups is one of the best, if not the best, defensive PG out there. He runs their patient offense amazingly. Baron Davis is more run and gun. If Davis was on the Pistons, it would totally kill their chemistry.

"Yet he lead them to a first round victory over the #1 seed Mavericks who many had picked before the playoffs even began to win it all."

So, if he can lead them past the #1 seed Mavs, why hasn't he been able to lead them farther into the playoffs?

Davis does have stats over Billups, but the success of the Pistons versus the success of the Warriors over the course of the last couple of years, has a huge margin.

No one can say that Billups hasn't been the most consistent starter on the Pistons.

I can play your silly little games maybe Baron isnt the greatest defender but if he was on the Pistons they would averaging way more then 97 ppg. And Billups isnt a explosive scorer he isnt a player that is going to blow up for huge numbers on any given night which is what the Pistons truely need if they had a player who could atleast try to counter a superstars numbers they could win more then what they are. Lets not forget last year how LBJ scored as much as the Pistons in their overtime thriller of a game... With Baron out there i guarentee you that wouldnt happen. And the reason he cant lead a team past the first round is because the team around him is trash. Just because Kobe hasnt been past the first round in the last few rounds doesnt mean Billups is better then Kobe does it? No it means Kobe has a team that is decent and cant do anything... Also Billups plays... are you ready for this IN THE EAST its easy to get to the finals when you go thru the Magic and Bulls or even better you get to play a team well under .500 if Golden state was in the East they would be the 4th seed (if they had the same record they do now) I wish i had ATL in the first round. Or Philly.

"I can play your silly little games maybe Baron isnt the greatest defender but if he was on the Pistons they would averaging way more then 97 ppg "

1. What games?!?! This is a throwdown...
2. Baron Davis is not the type of point guard for the Pistons offense. Like I said, Davis is a run and gun point guard, while the Pistons offense is patient, and runs smooth sets.

To give you an idea of the differences of these styles, take a look at this (DET first):

Offensive -

PPG: 97.5 (T-17th) vs. 111.0 (1st)
FGA: 79.9 (22nd) vs. 90.3 (1st)
FG%: 45.8 (13th) vs. 46.0 (12th)

Defensive -

OPP PPG: 90.1 (1st) vs. 108.8 (last)
OPP FGA: 76.1 (1st) vs. 85.3 (25th)
OPP FG%: 43.7 (3rd) vs. 46.8 (26th)

As you can see, the Pistons are a defensive team, while the Warriors are offensively-minded. A team's style is usually depicted by its point guard. Davis is a BAD fit for this team.

"Just because Kobe hasnt been past the first round in the last few rounds doesnt mean Billups is better then Kobe does it?"

Kobe has already had success in the playoffs.

"if Golden state was in the East they would be the 4th seed"

If DET was in the West they'd have the top spot.

The Fact that GS is last in defense does not fall on the shoulders of Baron, he is second in the league in steals and lets take in to account the fact that Billups is a SYSTEM PG... before he joined the Pistons he had never averaged more then 13 ppg or 5 assists per game.. while Baron on the other hand has always produced his 2nd year in the league he averaged 13.9 ppg and 7.3 assists which to me says that wherever Baron plays he would do wonders while Billups even with KG on his team he couldnt produce anywhere near the numbers Baron has put up . Since Baron's 3rd year in the league, his lowest number of PPG is still better then every year Billups has put up except one. Now Billups is a good PG dont get me wrong but if he was on another team he would stuggle. Now for one last comparison of career stats

Davis
PPG 17.1
APG 7.2
RPG 4.1
SPG 1.9

Billups
PPG 14.8
APG 5.5
RPG 2.9
SPG 1.0

I fail to see where you see that Billups is the better PG i have yet to find anything other then the fact that he is on a better team which GOT him a NBA title he didnt get it for them.

Good luck, and thanks again.

Going home will try to check this tonight sometime!

STS picks look much much better

Report Offensive Comment

Baron Davis is second in steals. I don't call that defensively challenged. Also he holds in the post. Warriors always switch on pick and rolls because Davis is so strong. Also Warriors record has steadily improved every year with Baron and thats in The West (best) Conference.

Report Offensive Comment

Is this career wise or 2008? Because if it was career, Steve Nash and Tony Parker should be up there.
