Follow my format for positions. Please keep the players to the KNOWN positions (so don't put Joe D in left etc)

C - Yogi Berra
1B - Lou Gehrig
2B - Tony Lazzeri
SS - Phil Rizzuto
3B - Graig Nettles
LF - Rickey Henderson
CF- Joe Dimaggio
RF - Dave Winfield
DH - Babe Ruth
SP - Whitey Ford
SP - Lefty Gomez
SP - Ron Guidry
RP - Goose Gossage

This is for a tourney so don't penalize me for going "for the easy win". I had to go first.

Babe Ruth played right field never played a game at DH because there was no DH

C- Yogi Berra
1B- Lou Gehrig
2B- Tony Lazzeri
SS- Phil Rizzuto
3B-Graig Nettles
LF- Rickey Henderson
CF- Joe Dimaggio
RF- Babe Ruth
DH- Don Mattingly (587 at bats from DH)
SP- Whitey Ford
SP- Red Ruffing
SP- Lefty Gomez
RP- Dave Righetti

Well anyone can be DH - would it have been better if I put bench instead?

Well your RF of Ruth over Winfield wins. My DH of Ruth over Mattingly wins.

Gossage over Righetti easily.

Ruffing versus Guidry - Ruffing is in the HOF I'll give you that. Guidry has a Cy Young. Ruffing has 6 All-Star Selections, Guidry 4.

If we compart stats for Ruffing and Guidry:
Guidry led the AL in ERA 2 times. Ruffing 0.
Wins as a Yankee: Ruffing 231, Guidry 170 (Ruffing had 3 more seasons than Guidry has a starter).
Guidry led the AL in wins 2 times, Ruffing 1
Guidry led the AL in WHIP 2 times, Ruffing 0
Guidry led the AL in Hits Allowed 1, Ruffing 0
Guidry led the AL in Walks per 9 allowed 1 time, Ruffing 0
Guidry's highest win total 25, Ruffing 21.
Guidry's career ERA 3.29, Ruffing 3.80 (includes his time on other teams).

Guidry had one of the greatest seasons for a pitcher going 25 - 3 in 1978.

Well Ruffing may not have had the flashy stats like Guidry, but 61 more wins speaks for itself. I would much rather have a guy go out there and consistently win games over. Here are some stats you did not mention

Innings pitched

Ruffing- 3168
Guidry- 2392

Complete Games

Ruffing- 261
Guidry- 95

Shut outs

Ruffing- 40
Guidry- 26
average number of wins as a Yankee.

Ruffing- about 15
Guidry- about 12

20 games won

Ruffing- 4
Guidry- 3

Ruffing was great with the yankees and is in the top 3 in almost every stat.

Ruffing had 3 more seasons as a starter for the Yankees than Guidry did but the numbers do lean more towards Ruffing in some stats.

Even if you win with Ruffing that still makes us even (you get RF, and 1 SP, I get DH and RP - our differences).

So the final question comes down to lineup as a whole. In my opinion, a lineup with Winfield in it is scarier to a pitcher than a lineup with Mattingly in it. Don't get me wrong - being a Yankee fan myself - I love Mattingly. But I get a 5 time gold glove winner playing RF (if I'm not mistaken, Ruth had a great arm but his glove wasn't as good as Winfield's).

Here is what my batting order would look like (from 1 - 9)

Henderson
Dimaggio
Gehrig
Ruth
Winfield
Berra
Nettles
Lazzeri
Rizzuto

One of the best 2 - 6 in history.

Well My line up got more production hitting.

Henderson
Mattingly
Dimaggio
Ruth
Gehrig
Berra
Nettles
Lazzeri
Rizzuto

The best 1-6.
