Kemp or Webber?

Two of my favorite power forwards. Both were flashy in their primes. Both Webber and Kemp could dunk but i would say Kemp edges him out. WEbber was a better passer. Kemp is my pick though. They both went to 5 all-stars. Kemp was on the All-Nba 2nd team from 93 to 96. Kemp came str8 out of highschool while Chris WEbber an his infamous timeout followed. The KEY factor though is that KEMP went to the FINALS in the WEST. Gary payton and Kemp were one of the best duo's i've ever seen their primes. Not like Stockton and Malone but close at times and not on the overhaul of things. Kemp and Payton led the Seattle Supersonics to their best record EVER 64-18. The Supersonics might be planning on Oklahoma City so that will be distinct. This argument is not one-sided and if anything Webber would get the obvious vote. Listen to arugments please for the sake of a loss.

I'd certainly take Webber over Kemp. Webber was a 1st team all NBA, and the NBA Rookie of the Year. His downfall had many facets, but he was certainly hurt by poor coaching decisions with Golden State. By standing up to the coach, he was forever labeled a bad boy. (Well, that and his legal/drug problems...but Kemp knows all about those too). But being ranked #11 in all time power forwards, and a lifetime average of 20 points, 9 rebounds and 4 assists is in rare company. Lets be honest, when the other 5 people with those averages are named Chamberlain, Cunningham, Bird, Baylor and Garnett (4 HOFers and 1 future HOFer), you have to rank him amongst the NBA elite.

His downfall? No titles. But as you said, Kemp had no titles either. But Kemp had a supporting cast that Webber only dreamed of. You can't say Kemp without Payton. Who do you put with Webber? My point exactly.

Webber i put with Jason Williams, Bibby, and Rod Stickland. Prettty decent point guards. Bibby the best out the bunch.

George Karl's only Finals appearance with the STAR KEMP at the stable. You can say payton this and payton that but without KEMP nothing would have down like it did. He was the number 1 star. Payton close but Kemp was the center of attention. Shawn Kemp in his prime was better than Webber. Kemp had a good team but Webber had some in Sacremento. Kemp played the legendary MJ in the finals and took legendary George Karl to the FInals for his only time. Kemp had Schrempf , and Payton but not to many others. I remember Sam Perkins and Hersey Hawkins and that's about it. Webber had Peja, Bibby, Brad Miller, Doug Christie, and Vlade Divac. With no titles for both i look at Finals appearances and Kemp was a big deal in his. Webber out beats Kemp in career but in their Prime Kemp overpowered C-Dub by a HAIR>

Well you certainly make my case when you compare Payton with Williams, Bibby and Strickland. I really don't need to say much more.

Once Webber finally got some decent support (Bibby) in 2001, they also had back to back 59 and 61 win seasons. So it certainly helped. And they only missed out on the finals in 2002 because of a couple of players named Shaq and Kobe on the other side of the court.

As for George Karl, I can't for the life of me figure out why you say his name as much as you do Kemp's. What you are really saying is that Kemp made it to one finals apprearance.

When all is said and done though, Payton is the name that everyone still respects. Kemp has become an afterthought. Kemp took himself out of the NBA. But Chris Webber's knee was his downfall. It bothered him from 2002 until the end this year. But he never stopped trying. Kemp decided to go on the all-cake diet and battled weight and drug problems.

I'd much rather have someone like Webber try, than Kemp and the way he ended his career.

Kemp made all nba 2nd team 3 years in a row when the talent was deep in the NBA.('93-96) You had the Jordan's, Shaq's, Hakeem's.Stockton and Malone's,Barkley's, Ewing and the Knick's, so that should speak volumes.

When WEbber made 1st team ONCE Jordan was nearly retiring if you get my drift. The nba wasn't as STACKED.

Kemp and Payton pushed the GREAT Jordan team to 6 games when the Bull's regular season record was 72-10 for god sakes.

Yeah, we're talking about basketball. Which is difficult to play when you're on cocaine and 50 pounds overweight. And yes, I get your drift. You are acknowledging that Kemp never was good enough to be 1st team.

Perhaps you are purposely ignoring the fact that Webber was also named All NBA five times also? But at least he as a 1st team on there. Something Kemp never could accomplish.

when I look at Slam Magazine's top 75 players of all time, I see Webber's name. Somehow I keep missing Kemp's name. Interesting.

And Webber got to nail Tyra Banks when she was thin and hot. Kemp....well he got to smoke a bag of crack. Almost as good, I guess.

Only reason Weber went to college is cause he didnt get kicked out for smoking Pot like Kemp did..

Shawn Kemp is the Travis Henry of the NBA...Or the other way around
