The NHL and the Ref's helped the Flyers win game 4 just so that there would be a game 5 in Pittsburgh. Which in turn means more money.

After watching the Pittsburgh vs Philadelphia game last night, I have concluded that it was predetermined that a game 5 would take place. There were penalties called on the Penguins in the 1st period that should not have been called, and one's that should have been called on the Flyers that allowed Philly to get two Power Play goals in the first period.

They kept it pretty evn in the second with the penalties and then the 3rd was filled with an onslaught of the normal Penguins. Anyone can see that the Penguins are the better team and should have won that game from the begining.

Yes, I am a Pens fan, so I might be a bit biased, but calling that many penalties on the penguins in the first period, when they have played clean most of the playoffs, was just a clear indication that the NHL wanted to force a game 5. Which will fill NBC's schedule for two game 5's this weekend on thier network and bring Hockey into the spotlight. I am all for raising the ratings of Hockey, but to cheat a team like they did last night, is not a good way to do it, and avid hockey fans will know exactly what happened last night and why it happened. NBC needed something to fill it's weekend sports with

Completely biased. There were calls made, calls missed, shots taken and shots made. In other words, it was a hockey game. The penalties called in the first period were penalties, period.

And by your own observation, they kept it pretty even in the second period. Well if you want a team to win an NHL game, you don't leave it at 2-0. In the end, there may have been power plays, but Philly still had to score the goals. Which they did.

In the end, Philly had their backs to the wall, at home, and responded. Its an age old story that happens all the time. Great game, now on to game 5.

Completely biased? Not sure about that. And where did they leave it 2-0? I feel a bit of bias coming from th other end.

Yes, there were penalties called, never have I seen so many in the first few minutes against one team. It is easier for a team to score when constantly on the power play. What I am saying is that Pitt has dominated the series, and to see what happened last night, only went to show that NBC wanted both game 5's for their weekend broadcast. The only other thing going on this weekend is the horse race.

Now granted Philly is up against a wall and with all odds stacked against them, will not win the series, but to play out like it did last night was not something that is good to see. Philly won, and good for them, but for a team that only had 1 power play goal in 3 games against Pitt and then gets all that time in the first period on the power play.

Yes, even in the second and even in the third and look what happened. Philly has less shots, less chances, and 0 goals. What did Pitt do? Brought it back to within 1 goal. They had to play the 2nd with Kid gloves due to all the penalties called on them in the 1st. Seems a little strange to me.

LOL, of course it is completely biased. Your name is PENSFAN#1!!!

What you're telling me in the final paragraph is that Philly, with a comfortable lead in the 3rd, played DEFENSE, and stopped attacking. That's called "basic hockey strategy".

Its called "one game", and in hockey, home ice is very important. So the Pens lost. It happens. But to blame Pittsburgh's failure to close it out on a TV network (who wasn't even broadcasting the game), or on the ref's, means you simply can't accept a defeat. Philly is in the playoffs for a reason. They already defeated other teams to get to this point in the playoffs. To not think they are capable of at least one win shows just how true your name is.

Sweeps are nearly unheard of in hockey playoffs. So relax. The Pens will still win the series.

I am not saying they won't win the series, and not being biased, but Philly has history and the odds against them. Which means I am sure the Pens will move on. I would hope even a Philly fan would admit that. I will still say that possibility is there.

What is annoying is when you see a game called the way it was. And Oh, by the way, CBS owns VS. why do you think they have weekend rights to the games? Simple logic there.

I accept the defeat. But I do not like watching a game played the way it was last night. If you are and avid fan, you have a good feeling with what happened.

Just like the last game of the season, The pens tanked that game to pull the Sens. Very smart move on their part, but not a great game to watch or be a part of.

But the first games of the stnaley cup playoffs were going to take place no matter what. This came down to the possibility that there would be no Sunday game and no TV revenue.

NBC has the rights to the game, and wanted to sell air time for a sporting event people will be watchin other than filling the time slot with a movie or some other waste of time for the network. A good conspiracy cannot be proven. That's what makes a good one.

Actually, Comcast owns the Versus network. Neither CBS nor NBC (depending on which argument I'm looking at here) own the Versus network. NBC owns the weekend rights to the games, because they paid for the weekend rights to the the games. But they have no affiliation with the Versus network. So your simple logic....hmm...ain't so simple.

NObody tanked the game. NObody cheated the game. NObody is in a conspiracy. Its just hockey. Sometimes your team wins, somethimes your team loses. Lose with dignity. Your team certainly did last night.

Bad calls....clipping on Letang!!! That was a hip check and the NHL Rule Book clearly states clipping as hitting an opponent below the knees so as to take him out of the play or knock him down. The melee that insued behind the net and they only penalize Brooks Orpik which resulted in the 3rd goal on the 2nd successful powerplay for the Flyers....please, Vote to the left.

An NHL conspiracy theory that is favouring the Flyers?
Well, I have to say in all honesty that's a first. Everyone knows that Crosby is Bettman's baby.
I'll lean right here but Pensfan is going to have to make one heck of an argument on this to change my mind.

sounds like a bitter penguins fan to me..... who cares about hockey.... only people in pitt and detroit.. and canadiens

I watched the game. Penguins played flat footed and lethargic and the Flyers were just the opposite. Vote right.

Bitter...BITTER...BITTER.....nah, just kidding. It is dissapointing to see the team you follow lose, but the way they were challenged is what gets me. I am never one to say the other team didn't deserve to win, and I am not saying that. I am commenting on the cisumstances that led to last nights win for Philly. If they can win game 5 in Pitt, more power to them, but it is a game that should not even be taking place.

dude it was horrible the calls last night, they punched us first on each exchange and who got run mostly? the Pens....Crosby should have gotten a penalty shot, but NOOOOOOOOO we got homered

its not bitter when its so true

This is an ultra-homer TD. I understand if you think your team got jipped. And I've felt my team in the past has gotten a bad beat. But I'd never make a TD out of it - and then ALLEGE that there is a conspiracy going on to extend this series. That is illegal, very illegal, and would throw the NHL into absolute chaos. If you wholeheartedly believe this, I really don't think you're playing with a full deck Pensfan.

Easy vote right.

Full Deck Moon? What about the NBA ref that threw games? That seems like it was jsut recent too? Did they goback and change the outcome from those games? Don't think so. Full Deck my ****. Seems you might be the one who is a few fries short of a happy meal....Not the sharpest knife in the drawer, a few bricks shy of a load, off the deep end....I could keep going, but that would be so HOMER of me.

It is just ironic how the officials in the Red Wings-Stars Series waived off a goal due to goalie interference when there was none that could have changed the way the Wings played the rest of that game. Ironic how the Pens get call after call made on them when half of those things never happened. Clipping on Letang couldn't have happened cause he never hit his leg littleless his knee. Crosby gets swiped into the goal and oh what's that...the faceoff comes out of the zone...weird....the refs trying to restrain Malone and Hatcher last night let Hatcher go as he seems he is skating away and what does he do while the refs are still holding Malone...takes some cheap shots, otherwise Malone was going to hand Hatcher his teeth on a platter. Sunday this all ends so to continue to talk about it is a mute point. The Flyers will get it handed to them courtest of the fans and the players of the Pittsburgh Penguins.

Report Offensive Comment

Consipracy theory??? Maybe. I think it happens in the NFL and NBA as well !

Report Offensive Comment

I think that refs can influence games in hockey and basketball more so then most other sport, that was proven with the Donahoe case. If it wasn't a conspiracy, then soemthign was going on, cause there was porr calls made and every single one of them went in favor of the Flyers.

Seems to me the first Penalty of the game went to Briere. Last I looked he wears a Flyers sweater and it was a pretty cheezy one at that. Had the Pens taken advantage they would have changed the tempo of the game right away. The Pens will likely win this series as the odds favour them. What are you guys whinning about?

Just lay into the guy why don't you? You must have read Carnegie's book on how to win friends and influence people. <_<

Vote right. The Pens did not show up ready to compete and could not put a desparate team away in game 4. It happens all the time.---------H--------------<>point

Report Offensive Comment

I'll qualify the next comment as a joke and sarcasm in response to the Flyers fans who subscribe to the "Pens tanked the last game to avoid the Flyers" and "Bettman/NHL want Crosby/Pens in the Finals" conspiracy theories. That being said...

Maybe the Pens tanked game 4 so that they could get one more home game and the resulting ticket, concession and broadcasting revenues that come with it. After all, if they tanked a game before, as so many of you Flyers fans believe, why wouldn't they do it to put some extra $$$ in their pockets? And after all, they didn't exactly play the most inspired game now did they?

But then again, most of you Flyers fans would NEVER buy into THIS tank theory, as it would mean you'd have to acknowledge the Flyers didn't actually win that game through the superiority many of you still think they have, even after being down 3-0.

Again, before you go accusing me of being some conspiracy theorist (now wouldn't that be the pot and the kettle), read my qualifying statement again.

Ok ok...I'll hold off on the cliche's. You're just dumb? Was that blunt? Sorry.

You made the case in the TD that there was a league-wide conspiracy going on involving the referees that would extend this series. That is ludicrous. At ludicrous speed. You've gone plaid.

The NBA ref you are mentioning broke the law as part of a gambling ring. David Stern didn't have a meeting with Donaghy or whatever about throwing NBA games. Big difference.

Pardon the dumb comment, but you threw enough cliche's at me to make it happen.
