One huge factor on how the packers will do next year is the qb position and im pretty sure everyone is spectacle about the packers position. But lets me honest there isnt a LEGIT qb in the north now that farve is gone. Grossmen(Bears),Kitna(Lions),Jackson(Vikings) none of them are a qb that can take a team on his shoulders and help lead them on to the playoffs. And whoever is the packers upcoming qb is not going to lead a team to single-handling so the qb factor shoudnt have such a factor espcially when none of the teams have a above par qb.
Im gana list the top 2 teams in every major factor in determining a team and will support my choices in my next arguement
Running Game(The Off.Line also is a factor)
1) Vikings
2) Packers
Passing Game(Including the Recievers)
1) Packers
2) Lions
Defense
1) Packers
2) Bears (now that most players should be healthy be the regular season)
Special Team(Kickers/Punters/Return Game)
1)Bears
2) Packers
The Packers are the best all-around team in the NFC NORTH
Philip Rivers is a gangsta said 05/16, 09:24 PM
Well, the Packers are going through a transitional phase right now. Aron Rodgers is unproven and is replacing one of the greatest QBs of all time. When you point to the 3 opposing QBs doesn't say the whole story. Kitna will benefit from the Lions focusing more on the run, Grossman looked halfway decent before he got injured(not to mention SB experience), and Jackson may not make it to week 2 with Booty on his tail.
I will rank the teams like you did
Run game
Vikings
Packers
Passing game
Lions
Packers
Defense
Vikings
Bears
Special teams
Bears
packers
The Vikings will win the north. You will say they have no good QB. The Bears orginization has never had a real good QB that hasn't stopped them. The Vikings have a great line on both sides of the ball especially on offense with Hutchinson, Birk, and Mckinnie. The Vikings have the leagues most explosive run game with AP, and the little talked about Chester Taylor.
Not only that Sidney Rice showed flashes of brilliance last year and could have a break out season this year.
JoseyRamos said 05/16, 09:46 PM
Alright first
Grossman SB expierence?? He was just a bit terrible lol
Now the rankings
The running game is now above average for the packers. Ryan Grant and whoever ends up making the second-string will get more touches now that farve and that can only improve the status of the rb's
Passing game the packers have.
The lions have no such Off.line and now with the pick-up of Nelson the Packers have the best group of recievers, they also have a better line then the lions and as you may have saw last year against the cowboys. Rodgers should that he can be a gunslinger like Farve. And not to mention he was under Farve's wing for a few of years.
Now Defense
I dont know how you dont put the packers on the top.
They have a great def.line(Kabeer Gabaja Biamila and Aaron Kampman)
The Linebacker core is a top 3 in the entire NFL forsure
(Poppinga, Hawk, Barnett)
And there secondary is also amongest the best in the NFL
(Harris, Woodson, and Bigby who showed he can emerge to a top safety)
The Vikings showed alot of holes in the secondary last year. And we still havent seen how the new def.line will shape out.
And the bears defense is good but they are injury prone
Philip Rivers is a gangsta said 05/17, 12:14 AM
I'll start with the reason I have the Packers D as the third best. Well the D-line is good but I have my concerns about it.
1. Kampman disappears at times and that is always bad.
2. KBG is a great pass rusher but can't stop the run and teams will just run to his side.
3. The biggest problem? Who is their big run stuffer?
The LB corps is solid but not elite, to say top 3 is going overboard.
And GB secondary is very lack luster. first their corners hold every play and eventually that will catch up with them, not only that they are aging and they don't have that much depth. Also they have no proven safety, Bigby still has to prove he can play a full season like the way he did in the playoffs.
The Vikings D-line is going to be great and is a proven run stopping force. The only problem last year was pass rushing but with the addition of Jared Allen that will provide an instant up grade and will allow Kevin Williams to see more 1 on 1 situation.
And with the new pass rush the secondary will look alot better and with Sharper roaming about you never know what will happen.
The only question mark is at QB but I wouldn't worry, with AP and Chester Taylor it won't matter.
JoseyRamos said 05/17, 10:02 PM
Alright first the packers d-line
Aaron Kampman inconsistent??
In the last 2 years kampman is averageing over 13 sacks a year and 76.5 tackles. Thats pretty freakin good.
KGB
He is averaging 10 sacks in his 7year career.
LB Core
Barnett-121tackles in a 5year career and over 35 ast
Hawk- 112tackles in his 2year career and 32 ast
And there pass defense was 3th in the NFC.
Lack Luster???
The VIkings were 16th(Last in the NFC)
And Sharper must not have been such a impact if they were ranked last in the NFC.
And to say that the problem in qb for the vikings wont matter because of AP and Taylor is real funny because both were in top shape last year and what happened with jackson? He was not even a bit close to a avg qb.
Its funny how you skipped the Offense.
The wide reciever core is sure to help Rodgers or whoever gets the spot.
Driver and Jennings are one of the best duo's in the NFC.
Also Last years run game should improvement and it can only get better with Grant and Mornecy.
Packers were 2nd in the NFL for total offense YPG
And the Packers were 11th in Defense.
Vikings
20th in Defense
13th in Offense

Report Offensive CommentJoseyRamos's arguments are just stupid.
Running: The Vikings have a huge edge here. Also, the Packers downgraded in the QB position, and as the Packers set up the running game by passing the ball well the loss of Favre will hurt their running game, so though they are the second best running team, they are still way behind the Vikings in that category
Passing: Lions should now be ahead of Packers, because they only pass the ball, and the Packer will run more to relieve pressure on Rogers, and Rogers is not as good a QB as Favre so they wll also loose yardage there
From last year, the best defense in the North in terms of points allowed were the Packers, but the best overall defense in terms of points allowed minus points scored by the defense were the Minnesota Vikings. In addition, the Vikings forced more turnovers than the Packers, who don't force lot, and the Vikings defense was upgraded a lot, while the Packers was not, so on defense the Vikings should be ahead of the Packers. The Pack should still be ahead of the Bears, because having a couple of players hurt is no excuse to giving up over 200 yards rushing to a single RB in under 20 carries.
Special teams: In terms of returns, best team is the Bears. In terms of field goal kicking, best team is either the Bears or Vikings, as Longwell and Gould were the 2 best kickers from last year. In terms of Punting, the Packers are in trouble, so overall, the best special teams is the Bears, and Vikes and Pack are pretty close.
Plus, special teams should not be used except to break a tie unless you are as dominant at it as the Bears.

Report Offensive CommentYou have a Qb with little more than 1/2 of game experience backed up by two rookies. Uh..I don't care what division they are in, they ain't gonna get it. You don't win divisions with growing pains at the QB position.
Cowboys-Celtics-Chisox | 05/19/08, 01:15 AM
Report Offensive CommentI still like the Packers QB and passing game over the Lions. That team did nothing once they started playing good teams. They will stink again. The Bears defense is also running on reputation. They always get dinged up and aren't young enough anymore to make up for it. Urlacher has seen better days and the d-line is always being rotated due to injury. The Packers a solid team. Rodgers only has to stay healthy. The whole division is question marks at QB but Grossman is a joke, I Jackson has to improve a lot to be decent and Kitna likes to throw to the opposing team (hopefully our new QB doesn't). I think on paper the Packers are the best team. Funny thing about the NFL is that things don't go how anyone thinks. No one thought they could win the division last year either.

Report Offensive CommentI was going to vote for Rivers until I saw his defensive rankings. The Vikings? Sure, you can't run on them, but they are awful against the pass. And the Bears?! Its not the year 2006 anymore. Sure they had an AWFUL offense but the defense really got burned in 07. The Packers have arguably the best defense in the NFL. It has no big weaknesses. Kampman up front, two young talented linebackers in Barnett and Hawk, and finally that incredible CB duo they have in Harris and Woodson. That is the best defense in the NFC North by far
NYGiantsSBXLIICHAMPS | 05/19/08, 05:55 AM
Report Offensive CommentThe Vikings defense was one of the top 10 in the NFL last year. Sure, they were not so good in pas defense, but in points allowed they were 11th, they forced a lot of turnovers and were 8th in sacks, and in TD's allowed, they only gave up 1 more than the Packers did. Add that to the fact that their defense scored 8 touchdowns, and their defense was pretty good. This offseason, they added a premier pass rusher, which the Giants showed is the best way to improve a pass defense, and they wont be dead last in passing yards allowed because they will have more sacks withut blitzing as much.
GaretJax | 05/19/08, 08:52 AM
Report Offensive CommentWell we'll see how it works out. Eli Manning did singlehandidly give the Vikings nearly half their touchdowns, so that stat is a little bloated, because for some reason Manning can play excellent against a Belicheck coached defense but is awful, just awful against the Vikes. Good point though, Jared Allen will be a very nice addition for the Vikes. I still think overall the Packers defense reigns supreme, they have 5 pro bowl caliber players on that unit which is very impressive.

Report Offensive CommentBy the way Lions fan don't get your hopes up. The first half of the 07 season is going to be the most enjoyable period of football for you for a LOOOONG time. I'm not saying you'll suck, but I see another 7-9 season out of the Lions for 08. But who the hell knows, who on earth thought the Giants would be Super Bowl champions at this point last?
