Most people think the 1985 NBA Draft Lottery was fixed. I say it is not fixed.
First off if you saw the process in '85 or seen it on YouTube, there are things you will pick up.
David Stern metion that Jack Wagner of Ernst & Whinney was the only one to put the teams logo into the envelopes. Which means Stern was not involve with putting the logos into the envelopes.
After all the envelopes were put into the the drum, Stern takes out the first envelope. Some feel that the envelope was tample. But I say how does Stern or Wagner know it was tample. Plus how does Stern know that envelope have the Knicks logo in it.
Stern put each envelope in order 1 through 7. What Stern should have done is do it in order 7 through 1 or after spinning the drum take one envelope out at a time and start from 7 all the way up to 1.
So I say the 1985 NBA Draft Lottery was not fixed.

If that was fixed, why was Stern not involve in putting the teams logos into the envelopes? He didn't know that the bend envelope contains the Knicks logo. If he did, Stern would have been involve in putting the logos into the envelopes himself. Instead he had Wagner do it for him. Stern wasn't in the room when the logos were put into the envelopes. And Wagner didn't kmow which logo was in which envelope. Also people talk about the bented envelope that Stern pick up from the drum. No one knew that it was bent. The envelopes were mix together in the drum.

Another thing to consider is that when Stern pick up the first envelope from the drum, he didn't even look at the inside of the drum. Stern put his hand in and pick up the envelope and said that the envelope he is holding has the team logo that will get the 1st overall pick. Stern didn't know that the Knicks logo was in it.

Report Offensive CommentI say that draft was fixed. I bet you the Knicks win it again this year. Why do you think they made the lottery? There is a trend for teams who finish in the top 3. Portland and Seattle are rivals, so they keep Durant and Oden close, which has not turned out. Atlanta also would have had to give up their first rounder to Phoenix if they didn't finish top 3, so that keeps a great team from getting better.
