Is this the same Saints team that EVERYONE said would dominate the NFL last season? The same Saints team that couldn't find a win with a magnifying glass last season?
Their best running back had surgery on both knees last year. They consider it big news that they signed Mark Brunell to back up Brees. Speaking of Brees, didn't he just throw EIGHTEEN interceptions last year? And fumble NINE times?
No sir, not buying it. Two years ago was a fluke. The Saints have made some off season moves, but none of them scream "we're better!". This division belongs to the Bucs again this year.

Ya know, I TD about once every 3 weeks, at most. And this is what I get when I jump back in the pool?
Anyway, the Bucs are the team that have made the strides to improve. And since they won the division last year, improvement can only mean another win this year.
For examples: Their quarterback was in his first year of the Gruden system. And he went to the Pro Bowl.
Michael Bennett showed great signs of ability last year, and he didn't have any experience, stepping into a Bucs uniform mid-season. Give him a full preseason, and he may just be the starting RB this year.
Jeff Faine is the new center, and I have to say that Tampa FINALLY HAS A CENTER! I'm really excited, as is Jeff Garcia.
And lets not even forget the new personnel on the defensive side. Tampa was in the top 3 last year in defense, and they only got younger and better this year.
No sir, still gotta believe that the South belongs to Tampa.

I agree with von, but you better throw out some good arguments to get a vote. and there is no way the bucs win 9 games this year. that whole division is like the j.v. squad of the nfl

Report Offensive CommentI dont think there is any clear cut winner. No team is head and shoulders above the rest of the teams. Except ATL wont win it....It comes down to whatever team screws up the least amount of times. And I think Garcia may be better at keeping the mistakes to just a few a season

Report Offensive CommentAgree with Goodell....that division is really up to who has the least major injuries and who deals with the injuries better.

I guess mentioning Brunell and completely ignoring the additions to the defense makes your argument seem better huh Gruden. The additions of Brian Griese and Warrick Dunn is definitely going to improve on the Bucs offense TREMENDOUSLY next year. Everyone knows the Saints 2 years ago is BY FAR, less of a fluke then the Bucs last year. Injuries to Deuce was too much to overcome.
"Speaking of Brees, didn't he just throw EIGHTEEN interceptions last year?"
First 4 games of the season , Brees played horribly. Since the initial 4 games, he was one of the top QB's in the league. Posting 27 Tds to only 9 ints in the last 12 games. With a lack of a runnign game last year, I would say those are pretty impressive numbers.

Report Offensive CommentLOL B-dawk. Same thing I heard last year. Heck, same thing I heard the year they won the Super Bowl. Put it this way, they could easily have won 11, but coasted the last two games with no competition. It was a mistake, but they were good enough.

Report Offensive CommentEven more LOL to The Guru. In reality, Griese and Dunn provide something the Bucs sorely lacked last season. DEPTH.
And thanks for confirming that Brees threw 18 interceptions last year, just as I said he did. Question, since you're the expert on the Saints: What was their record over the last 12 games of the season?

Better then the Bucs record.
Guru is ready for Football! | 05/19/08, 02:31 PM
Report Offensive CommentBut, lets be honest here. The defensive pickups of the Saints include the ancient Aaron Glenn and the constantly on the injured list Dan Morgan. There were a couple of good signings, don't get me wrong.
Tampa didn't need much defensive help, since they were already a top 3 defense last year. They did grab one of the best corners in the draft though, Faine at center will be a monster improvement, Douglas at DE, plus many more I'm very happy with. So a top 3 defense only got better.
Neither team has done much with their offseason, so we'll wait to see how that works out.

So you don't have an answer? Or just don't know? They were actually 7-5, one game better than Tampa. But the part that hurts your case was one of those losses was to Tampa Bay. Add that to the fact that Tampa sat their starters the last two games, and that shows you the TRUE STORY.

Lets see, Jonathan Vilma, Randall Gay, and Bobby McCray were pretty good pickups also. Drafting Sedrick Ellis. I would say our offseason improvments on defense was pretty significant. Just like you, im very happy with our moves
Guru is ready for Football! | 05/19/08, 02:51 PM
Report Offensive CommentGet off your high horse Gruden, Tampa had a good season last year, but as i said earlier, it was a fluke. Saints lost their starting RB for the year which hurt them tremendously. All the games the Saints lost, they rushed for under 100. The games they won? over 100. Deuce health is still up in the air, but Pierre Thomas showed he has the drive and heart to be a good RB. I guess we'll find out when the season starts.

Can't you give me just ONE offseason to brag? Its hard enough being a Bucs fan!
How bout trading Deuce to Tampa? Now that would be a great move.
Gruden crushes poker tables | 05/19/08, 03:39 PM
Report Offensive Commenttampa's season was a fluke... they were one of those teams that played an easy schedule that went from last to first.. happens to two teams every year then they fall back to earth.. like the jets last year
b-dawk | 05/19/08, 03:41 PM
Report Offensive CommentActually, someone goes from last to first every year in the NFC South. Has nothing to do with an easy schedule. But by any measure, the 2008 schedule is every bit as easy.
And if you think that the last to first will hold true this year, think: Atlanta.

Gruden Again | 05/19/08, 03:39 PM
Seeing that Deuce is my favorite player, the suicide count would be +1 if that were to happen. I already got an ulcer during the offseason worrying about Deuce getting cut.
I will say Grahamn was very impressive last year. Your backfield is pretty stacked.

i wasnt speaking just of that division. I have the unfortunate pleasure of living 30 miles from tampa so i have no choice but to watch their awful games locally.. and they are not a top tier talented team. a few bright spots, but o-line is awful and defense is getting old.. i see saints at 10-6 and bucs 7-9.. panthers 8-8 or 7-9. and falcons maybe 3-13
