The NBA is filled with young stars today, Kobe, Lebron, Dwight Howard, and Deron Williams. However, Chris Paul would be my franchise player.
Chris Paul is a complete NBA superstar. He averaged 21 points, 12 assists, 4 rebounds, and 3 steals a game. However the stats of the other MVP canidates this year were equally as impressive if not more so. Yet Chris Paul would still be my chioce to build a franchise around for several reasons.
1) He plays the most important position in Basketball. THe point gaurd in todays fast paced NBA game is becoming more and more central to the sucess of a team. Each team in the conference Finals this year has capable point gaurd. Lebron James' Caveliers early exit can be attributed to the lack of a solid point gaurd on the roster.
2) Makes his teamates better. Again he is not remarkable for doing this (see how much better KObe and LEbron make their teamates), but how much better he made his teamates. Paul created a serious contender out of no-names and relative underachievers, (West? Peja, and CHandler).

I would chose to build around Dwight Howard.
Take a look at all the Championship teams in the past decade, execpt for the Bulls all the teams were built around big men.The Spurs with Duncan,Detroit with the Wallaces, Heat and Lakers with Shaq and even before all championship winning teams have great big man which anabled them to win games.Plus almost all teams built around point guards make the playoffs but never win a championship like the Nets with Kidd,Suns with Nash, Wizards with Arenas not to see Paul cant do it but its way easier to find a solid point guard then it is for one of the best big man in the NBA.
Howard is also a beast and is a force to be recond with ever minute he plays.During the season he averaged 21 points,14 boards, 2 assist and 2 blocks. These stats will only go up as he continues to mature and become the best big man in the NBA once Duncan retires. Howard can do it all and makes a big difference on both offense and defense
In all I would build my dynasty around Howard and have a great team for years to come

I think agruing about what stats are more important are useless as CP3 and Howard are clearly equals in terms of the ipressiveness of their stats.
Ur absolutley correct in that many of the recent powerhouses have had centers.
But more to the point each has also had a fantastic point gaurd. Tim Duncan has been fantastic, but Tony Parker and Manu Ginobali where as important to the sucess of that team.
The pistons most important player is/was their point gaurd Chauncey Billups. When he plays well (see game 2 against Cs) they win. WHne he plays poorly, see game 3 (THEY LOOSE)

Report Offensive CommentI am the biggest CP3 fan ever and think he could end up being one of the greatest players of all time. However, in the NBA centers win rings. its that simple. Since Russell won his 11 centers win unless you have MJ of course, big guys win. Almost every single NBA champion has had an allstar big man. Russell, Wilt, Walton, Reed, Pettit, Kareem, Malone (Moses), Shaq, Hakeem, Duncan etc.
However, since i am a homer and hate voting against anything Wake, ill wait for all the arguments.

Report Offensive CommentCrap I entered by arguement before i was done.
But basically the Lakers had Kobe who can play the one. And the heat where dependent on D-Wayne Wade.

Report Offensive CommentI too love Chris Paul--but the heart of any basketball team is the "Man In The Middle" Jordan was a freak. There has NEVER been a NBA Champion without a low post threat at both ends of the floor.

Report Offensive CommentYou can have a bunch of big men standing around like West and Chandler but if there is no Chris Paul to distribute to them, the Hornets wouldnt have even made the playoffs.
