NFL Record least likely to be broken (Read Rules)

Rules:

1) You MUST select a record that is breakable....You cant take a 109 yd KR for TD. That record cant be broken, only tied

2) Record must have been established by 1975 or later. No records from before 1975

I usually dont do this, but you can go first......

This might be a trap TD, but I will select Jerry Rice's career reception yardage record. At 22,885, no active player is within 8,000 yards of it. And thos guys, Isaac Bruce and Marvin Harrison are both deep in their 30's.

Even if you go to the next tier of receivers, namely TO, Randy Moss, and Torry Holt, they are all between 9,000 and 11,000 yards back. Think of it, if any of those guys had 8 CONSECUTIVE 1,000 yard seasons AND played until they were 40 years old, they still would not catch Rice.

He was so good for so long. Everyone debates who the greatest RB of all time is/was. At wide receiver their is no "greatest" list that does not put Rice at WR. His record will not be touched.

Gale Gilbert....

Who is Gale Gilbert and what record does he hold??

He made 5 CONSECUTIVE Super Bowl's

He was the 3rd string QB for the Bills behind Kelly and Frank R for all 4 Super Bowl apperances by the Bills. Then he was the second string QB behind Stan Humphries and the Chargers who lost to Steve Young and the 49ers.

Some players go thier entire career without even seeing a super bowl.... Warren Moon, Vinny T, OJ Simpson, Barry Sanders, and so on. Those guys have never been close to a SB.

Yet Gale Gilbert made it to 5 straight and lost all 5

Here's the problem. Defining what is a legitimate record, and what is an interesting factoid that gets dredged up by some flunky production assistant on ESPN. I consider records to be the type of stats people use to legitimately judge a player's career. Being a third string never was/has been and picking up a dubious distinction such as this is hardly what most would consider a "record".

As I suspected Goodell, you had a trap set up, which is why you declined to go first. That said I will still stand by my choice. Forget the top ten, there is no active player in the top 250 all time with a chance of catching Rice.

Hios record is a real one, one that will stand the test of time and stand for the ages...not some fluke of second string quirkiness.

"Hios record is a real one, one that will stand the test of time and stand for the ages...not some fluke of second string quirkiness. "

Stand the test of time??

Kinda like Walter Payton's rushing record??

Kinda Marino's 48 TD passes in 1984 stood the test of time??

Or how Rodger Craig was the only player ever to get 1000/1000??

Lofton and Largents records were never gonna be broken either.....

I can name 100 records in the NFL that people thought were never gonna be broken, but were.

Right now, there is some kid who is eating smashed up bannanas and pooping himself. He just spit up his milk....And someday that kid will be the one who breaks Rice's records. LT is gonna shatter Smiths TD records

Statistical records fall every single season in the NFL. In order to break Gilberts record of 6 straight SB losses some one would have to be on a extremly dominant team, and have a long string of dumb luck

Im not discrediting Rice's records by any means. They are legit and Rice is a class act for all kids to look up to. But Rice never even made it to 5 SB's over his entire career.....And you say he's the GOAT.

Honestly Goodell, are you now questioning Rice's place as GOAT? Many polls rank him as not only the greatest WR, but NFL player period. I'm not going that far and don't have to. Sure somewhere a hypothetical kid might be out there, but what would it take?
1. A physical freak of nature - to survive 20 seasons in the NFL.
2. Not one but TWO Hall of Fame QB's to get you the ball.
3. An innovative new offense, such as the West Coast that fits your pass catching skills perfectly and sets the NFL on fire as an innovative passing game.

I think it is easier to imagine some Bubby Brister or Gus Frerrotte or heck even some long snapper to kick around the Free agent NFL system from team to team and luck into (or unluck into) 5 straight losses.

As to those who think Rice can be caught, I can categorically say it won't be by anyone playing today. Look at the stats of the top 250 receivers. Even the youngest like Andre Johnson and Boldin would have to AVERAGE 1400 yards a year for the next decade plus to be close. His record might someday fall, but not in your lifetime.

I got one that will never ever be broke...lets see what u two post

very nice selection that would be tough to break

Oooh, Goodell sets himself up for that beatdown. And Jerry Rice is there to deliver. Let's see what Goodell counters with.

Report Offensive Comment

Wow! No arguement from Goodeel, and JTS already voted.

Report Offensive Comment

This TD seems familiar. I think he has something up his sleeve.

Rice VERY nice call

Report Offensive Comment

I don't know. I could almost see Moss breaking Rice's record if he doesn't grow tired of the game.

Report Offensive Comment

one on left will be broken I think

Report Offensive Comment

That could easily happen again wiht free agency though goodell, Rices record will never be broken, Rice had the fortune of playing into his 40's with nothing but superior qb's on superior offenses, that is more unlikely than a backup hitting 6 strait superbowls with 3 different teams

You think that a player will make 6 straight SB's, losing them all ????

Report Offensive Comment

You know it had to have a Bills connection!

Report Offensive Comment

2 teams frank.....

Report Offensive Comment

I'll go to the left. There are many wide receivers coming in the future who COULD break Rice's record. But to get to a SB 5 consecutive times take a whole TEAM.
But that must have been terrible losing all 5 SB's

you only eluded to making it there initially, win or lose isnt in the equation, or is it? do they have to lose all 6?

i still say its more likely than a player playing for 20+ years with the likes of montana, young, and gannon (those few yrs he was good dont deny)

2 good picks
will come down to arguments

Moss currently has 12,193 yards and is 31 years old. His gifted qb, Tom Brady is over 30 as well. Don't forget it takes a quality QB to get the yards as well. Rice was extremely fortunate to have not one but two Hall of Fame QB's throwing him the ball.

Moss is 10,702 behind Rice. To catch him he would need to AVERAGE 1200 yards a year AND play until he was 40!

Report Offensive Comment

Yes they have to lose all six Frank...Which is why I said it at the end of my first argument

Report Offensive Comment

Hm. I question whether or not Gilbert's "achievement" is truly a record. But I tip my hat to the Commish for digging up that little gem.

Report Offensive Comment

Both are going to be tough to break. I'll vote for Rice because his was a legit record done on the field.

1200 yards a season is not the real issue. He should get plenty more than that over the next four years. Again the bigger issue is how long he will want to play. Will there be any motivation to continue to play if he wins the Super Bowl?
