Ordonez has never played a single pitch in LF in his entire life, how can you consider him a left fielder?
GaretJax is Richard Rahl said 06/13, 02:10 PM
LF and RF are not all that different. I just move him over to left, and there you go. CF is really where you need a CF, but the edges don't matter so much. I know that Ordonez is a RF.
Tejada vs.Guillen over past 3 seasons
Tejada: .313 .357 .475 41 HR 222 RBI 220 R 13 SB 6 CS
Guillen: .307 ..380 .505 46 HR 218 RBI 216 R 38 SB 19 CS
Pretty close #'s between the 2
Crawford vs. Ordonez. Do I really have to post stats here, because Ordonez obviously dominates.
Papelbon vs. Nathan
Papaelbon: 1.44 ERA 91 SV 102 OPP 7-7 record 195 SO
Nathan: 1.68 ERA 90 SV 97 OPP 11-2 record 199 SO
Nathan may have a higher ERA, but he has fewer blown saves, an when he blows a save, he does not let teh other team win, but leaves with a tie game. When Papelbon blows a save, he is more likely to loose the game.
Those are the differences.
jmphilliesfan said 06/13, 02:45 PM
I know that he CAN play there, but the fact is he doesn't. Are you saying I can put Ordonez at first, because I'm sure Ordonez CAN play first?
We'll call Tejada and Guillen a tie
I'll Crawford over nobody in left. Although it's a close one.
Papelbon vs. Nathan
"an when he blows a save, he does not let teh other team win, but leaves with a tie game. When Papelbon blows a save, he is more likely to loose the game."
Really? And where are you getting this information? Becasue if you use common sense, Papelbon's ERA is lower, but has more blown saves, and Nathan's ERA is higher, but less blown saves. That means when Nathan does blow his saves, he lets up a lot of runs, and when Papelbon blows his saves, he lets up less runs. This is such a dumb point anyway, but since you brought it up I figured I should make it right.
By the way, I looked it up, and when Papelbon blows his saves, the Bo Sox are 5-6. When Nathan blows his saves, they are 3-4. Not by much, but I have a better winning percentage in those games.
GaretJax is Richard Rahl said 06/13, 02:52 PM
The Whole thing with when Nathan blows a save, he doesn't loose te game is frm his record of 11-2, he has only 2 losses, so obviously when he blows a save, he does not loose the game for the Twins.
Papelbon had 2 games in a row (the second vs the Twins) where he had a save opportunity this year, and blew it and got the loss. That is as many losses as Nathan has over the past 3 years.
Nathan may have a higher era, but his ERA comes from games where his team is up by 2 or 3 runs, and he gives up fewer runs than his cushion.
Nathan is te better closer because he bows a lower percentage of his saves, and when he blows the save, he does not giv away teh game to the otehr team as often as Papelbon does.
With Ordonez in Left, Ordonez is a corner outfielder, and as a whole, the 2 corner outfielder positions are pretty similar, much more so than RF and 1B. I put im there because there are not any LF's who are as strong as the top RF's over the past 3 years.
jmphilliesfan said 06/13, 02:59 PM
Yes I am quite aware that LF is more like RF than 1B is, I was simply making a point.
And Yes, Nathan has only two losses, but that means his offense is clutch if he blows a save. I showed you the W-L numbers for the blown saves games, and boston has a better winning percentage end of point.
Papelbon clearly dominates Nathan this year and last year. Woohoo! Nathan beat him in stats by a little bit in Pap's first year. Point is, who do you want to come in in the 9th inning? I choose the best closer in the game, Papelbon.

Nathan's offense is clutch, Papelbon's isn't. What are you talking about, the Twins offense is no where near as clutch as teh Red Sox. I will give you real stats.
The 2 blown saves for Nathan from 2 years ago had Nathan leave with the game tied, and he won the game. From last year, of his 2 losses 1 of them was the only time he blew a save and left the game with the Twins loosing. The other loss was not in a save chance. Nathan's blown save from this year he left the game with it tied. That is not clutch hitting from teh Twins, that is Nathan not giving the other team teh lead. That is once where he enetered the game with the Twins winning, and left with them loosing. Papelbon has done that twince in 2 days this year. Once over 3 years. Twince in 2 Days. I pick the once in 3 years, personally, but if you like loosing more, that is just fine with me.

And I'm just saying that when Nathan blows his saves, his offense tends to back him up more than the Red Sox back Papelbon up when he blows a save .... maybe clutch wasn't the right word, or I didn't explain it enough
