1. Jared Allen, Minnesota Vikings - It amazes me how Allen was able to record 15.5 sacks on a team where he get double-teamed every single time. In Minnesota, there will be some other good linemen to take the pressure off of Allen.
2. Mario Williams, Houston Texans - Williams improved drastically from 2006-2007 and he will keep improving and be even better in 2008. He is getting older but at his age, that is a good thing.
3. Aaron Kampman, Green Bay Packers - Kampman is one of the most underated players in the NFL - even while being on of the best. He has other good linemen in Green Bay so he almost never gets a double.
4. Trent Cole, Philadelphia Eagles - Cole did fantastic last year with 12 sacks and 70 tackles and this year he will be 26, the age where most defensive ends step into their prime. Cole could be improving a lot.
5. Patrick Kerney, Seattle Seahawks - Kerney battles Allen for the sack crown last year at 31 years old. Yes, he is getting older, but is one year going to make a huge difference? With his athletic ability, he could have as many as three or four good years left in the tank.

1. Jared Allen - Allen will be in the top 5 because he has been a rising star, and as he progresses I only see him getting better as of right now.
2. Trent Cole - Trent Cole has had an improvement in his numbers every year, and as you said he is turning 26, and he is going into his prime as of now. I think he will be great.
3. Mario Williams - Williams is there because he has been solid in the NFL. He has just done a good job all around and as a player his numbers have only improved and as the years progress he will get better.
4. Aaron Kampman - Kampman was a choice because he has been underrated. He was a Top 5 Player in Sacks for the past 3 Years. Corey Williams has left, but now that may give Kampman more help to make big plays.
5. Osi Umenyiora - Umenyiora was a good DE last year and he learned a lot on the other side of Michael Strahan. His 07' campaign was almost as good as 05' and he even missed 2 games in 07' so I think he will be good.
I haven't enough room to make a comparison right now, so I will hand it over to you. Good luck, Dawgee.

I don't think Trent Cole will be the 2nd best linebacker in the league this year. Mario Williams has had better stats than Cole last year - at a younger age.
I think that Williams will do better because he just has more overrall talent and more potential. Plus, the Texans are ready to sign another linebacker who will take pressure off of Williams.
Aaron Kampman will also have a better year than Cole. Kampman is already in his prime and has the ability to get a lot of tackles and sacks. Kampman will play the Detroit Lions, Chicago Bears and Minnesota Vikins for a combined total of six times this year. Those teams all have bad quarterbacks so Kampman should get a lot of sacks against those three teams.
Last year, Michael Strahan took all of the double teams. This year, it will be Osi taking all of the doubles. And also as you mentioned, Osi gets injured quite a bit.
Kerney was second in the league in sacks last year and he is in the best shape of his life. He should easily be in the Top 5 defensive ends next year.

Here is my problem with Patrick Kerney. He has been very inconsistent when he plays. His sack count and number of tackles has been up and down all his career:
Tackles/Sacks
1999: 25/2.5
2000: 45/2.5
2001: 49/12.0
2002: 58/10.5
2003: 46/6.5
2004: 66/13.0
2005: 53/6.5
2006: 16/4.5
2007: 62/14.5
He played all 16 games EVERY one of those years, except for in the 2006 season. However, he was still inconsistent and has had different ups and down numbers every year. He is also getting up there in age too, to where he might be going out of his prime.
Osi Umenyiora had started only 14 of 16 games last year and had Michael Strahan on his other side. However, he was still able to put up the numbers he did and his numbers are continuing to improve. As you said, 26 year old DE's reach their prime at that age and that is how old Osi Umenyiora is.
Now, we know what Osi is capable of doing in the 2008 NFL Season, and we know what Kerney is capable of. However with Patrick Kerney, we don't even know what to expect from him, he could be good, he could do terrible. I wouldn't put him in my Top 5 if he has on and off years every year. I'll take Osi Umenyiora.
More to come.

I never said Osi gets injured quite a bit either. He was injured ONCE in his career. Kerney is getting up there in age and is not consistent like Osi.
Trent Cole over Mario Williams is next. What the heck are you talking about Mario Williams has more potential!? They are both at the young age, and both had great years, however, last year Trent Cole was better with 70 tackles, 12.5 sacks, 4 FF, and 11 plays stopped for loss. Those are way better than Mario Williams's stats if that is what you want to go by.
Now you say the Texans will get another LB to take pressure off of Williams. I have to say no. Because they are shopping an SLB. So I don't necessarily think that less pressure will be on him in the Texans 4-3 Defense. So I am sticking with Cole since he has got a lot of potential, and has had great progression every year.
Now, Kampman most certainly will not do better than Cole. Kampman lost Williams on his other side, so now they will double up on Kampman. You said that Kampman will crush the offensive lines in his divisions? You mean the best run blocking offense in the league? I don't think he will put up as great numbers than last year with Williams not there.
