Colorado Buffaloes: over or under 6.5 wins?

I'll go over here, mostly because I'm a Big 12 guy, but I know I can make a great argument for them.

The Buffaloes are coming off of a .500 year. This is a team that made it to the Independence Bowl and almost beat Alabama, led by a freshman quaterback. Cody Hawkins is returning most of his offensive weapons, plus they have one of the best running backs in this incoming recruiting class. Darrell Scott, should fill up his potential and shine for the Buffs this year.

The Buffs do have a pretty tough schedule for the sleeper team in the Big 12. Though they don't play Oklahoma or Texas Tech this year, they have Mizzouri, Kansas, and Nebraska all on the road. Plus they play West Virginia and Florida State slated in nonconference play. Out of these 5 games I see them winning 2 of them.

The Buffaloes are also pretty great at defense. They have great depth on the D-Line and in the Secondary, the only problem here is that they lost two great linebackers in Jordan Dizon, and Jake Duren who was dismissed from the team.

I see the Buffs getting 7 wins with strong play from Cody Hawkins, and a big win in the conference schedule.

Sorry Mike, but I'm not giving you the easy victory this time. You set the bar so low that to argue against you is a sure losing bet. So I'm upping the bar. Colorado will win 9 games this year. Not just .5 over your over/under. Coach Hawkins is one of the best coachs in the college game. And his son is quite ready for prime time under center. You got a glimpse of where this is going last year, and now get ready for a show this year.

They had a great recruiting class the last three years. And this year is when it really comes together. Look for Colorado to be a STRONG contender for the Big 12 championship this year. One game over .500? That's a joke. Nine wins are in the bag this season, and a 10th isn't out of the question.

Nice call, lets' make it an over under 7.5 games then, but here's why I set the bar so low.

Schedule strength...

Let's see they play Mizzouri, Kansas, and Nebraska, all Big 12 North opponents, on the road this year. Mizzouri and Kansas are both Big 12 title threats, and CU almost lost to Nebraska last year at home. I can see them losing all of these games, and if winning any I'd say they win the Nebraska game.

They also play West Virginia and Florida St in their non-conference schedule, and I think they can beat Florida St. but West Virginia is a stretch. Pat White will run all over this Linebacking core that Colorado has. So add that to the 2 losses to Mizzouri and Kansas, that's 3 losses already, plus there's no guarantee they beat Nebraska and Florida St, so that's potentialy 4 to 5 losses.

They also play Texas, a team they haven't beat for who knows how long, and they play Texas A&M in College Station, one of the toughest places to play in the college football world. And who says Kansas State can't beat the Buffs, they did last year by 27. So when you look at their schedule strength, they could go anywhere from 3-7 losses this year with Cody Hawkins' inconsistency.

I see, so in your opening argument you claim that they'll have STRONG play from Cody, and then in your second argument you drop them down to 3 wins with Cody's inconsistency. So which is it? I think its the first idea. He has been improving with every game, and with his experience he's gained, he's ready for the prime time experience. Forget last year. This is the year of the Buffalo. MiSSouri and Kansas are nowhere near the teams they've been. And West Virginia has seen its best days pass them by. And don't even get me on Florida State. I'm from Florida, and I cry each weekend of the season looking at how pitiful this once proud school has become.

Write it down, and sign it in blood. Colorado takes 9 wins this year.

Well, in both ways I'm sort of right with those statements. Hawkins was great against teams like Nebraska, Oklahoma, Texas Tech, but then struggled against Kansas State, Iowa State, and Arizona State. This guy hasn't proved to anyone yet that he can play a whole year without making a lot of mistakes. Maybe it was just freshman jitters, but one thing's for sure, if he can't prove to me or anyone that he is consistent, then Colorado gets no more than 7 wins.

Another thing that has me worried about this CU team is their Linebacking core. They lost two STARTING LB's on a core that wasn't that great without them. Now that they're gone, this defense is screwed without a LB that can lead the defense that also lost CB Terrence Wheatley. So the defense also has problems which will prevent them from getting more than 7 wins.

Colorado won't beat Mizzouri, I'll bet that on my life, it's in Columbia, Chase freakinDaniel is still playing, and they also have a heisman candidate in Jeremy Maclin. I agree that WV will be slowly declining, but you forgot one person that will make them have a good year, PAT WHITE, he;ll run all over this LBless crew. The Kansas game is in Lawrence so rock-chalk

I see, so by your argument, whatever you say is correct, so you can flip-flop throughout the whole conversation and still be correct. I'm sorry Senator Kerry, I wasn't aware that you were a registered member of Fannation. "I actually did pick Colorado to win before I picked them to lose."

Colleges lose players EVERY year. You only get a player for 4 years, IF you're lucky. Change is constant. And I'd put forth that if their linebacker core :wasn't that great" to begin with, then the opportunity is there for improvement, not falling back.

And if you'd bet your life on a college football game, then Michigan should have killed you already last year. Seems silly to even say that.

By the way...who is coaching West Virginia? Bill Stewart? Oh, that change should go so smoothly. I fully understand your faith in that team (so much faith you'd bet your life on them).

dude you defeat your own arguement! show me which games they win on their schedule cuz all you've pointed out are the losses and that they will likely lose 7 games next year. Besides as the season went on they were no longer a sleeper team and games against the likes of Missouri and K St were huge blow outs

and by the way its MISSOURI, or mizzou

Us Husker fans for some reason call it Mizzouri, that's how we've all said it, well the people I've grown up around that are Husker fans. Did I say they'd lose to K-State or Iowa State, no, I'm just saying they have to play them. They lost to them last year by 27, so I'm trying to say that they need to be prepared for that game. I only see them winning seven because they have one of the toughest schedules in the Big 12, plus they have the 3 toughest teams in the North on the road

They win Kansas State, Iowa State, Nebraska, Florida State, OK State, Colorado State, and Eastern Washington

Continued from 3rd argument:

Kansas also has junior quaterback Todd Reesing, who led them to a miraculous year last season. I think Colorado will beat Florida State, but it's in Tallahassee, and they lost to them in Boulder in 2007, so their a tough matchup. With Colorado's schedule and the inconsistency of Cody Hawkinis and their LB crew, they get no more than 7 wins this year

Definitely more than 6 wins but this does seem like an easy TD.

STRONG play from Cody, and then in your second argument you drop them down to 3 wins with Cody's inconsistency. So which is it?

Well,he probably figured that you would go the opposite way.

What I meant Cincy, and Gruden, is that Hawkins would have a phenomenal game against Oklahoma, but then play horrible against Kansas State, which is what he did. Anyways good td Gruden, I can't believe i'm still in this one

LOL, if he figured I'd go the opposite way, he shouldn't have bragged about the guy in his opening argument. Make a point, stick to it!

And good TD to you too Mike. Sorry for all the time delays, but between attending training, and sitting at a poker table in Connecticut til 2 AM every night...well...
