Sporting News is Crazy 6: The Eagles will be better than a 7-9 team......

Like the Carolina TD this is assuming McNabb plays at least 12-13 games......

They didnt go out and get a "name" WR for McNabb in free agency but they got a potential playmaker in the draft.....DeSean Jackson gives McNabb a big play threat and he is able to acclimate himself to the NFL by coming off the bench as a 3rd WR......Since they have capable WR's in Kevin Curtis (77 catches, 1,110, 14.4, 6 TD's) and Reggie Brown (61,780, 12.8, 4 TD's).....

They also made a shrewd pickup in Lorenzo Booker......No he isnt going to supplant Brian Westbrook but he gives them depth along with Correll Buckhalter......Booker had 28 carries for a 4.5 avg and 28 catches for 237 yards (8.5) as a 3rd down back in limited time with Miami......

They added these 2 players to an offense that was 6th in total offene and 17th in scoring......Jackson's arrival will help their scoring as he is a playmaker for McNabb.......

Defensively they acquired Asante Samuel to combine with Sheldon Brown to form one of the better CB duo's in the NFL.....

To increase the pass rush that was 9th in the NFL with 37 sacks, they signed pass rush specialist Chris Clemons......He had 8 sacks last season for Oakland

Philly was lucky to get to 8-8 last season....

There are many problems in Philly, starting with the front office. One minute they are leaking trade rumors of Mcnabb to the media, the next they are saying the reports are false..

They needed to get a big WR. Which they dont have..... Curtis is a good POS WR, but not a true #1. You also mention Desean Jackson, who will be a glorified Ted Ginn JR. Lets look at 2 play making, speedy WR's with NO HELP on the outside...

Lee Evans and Steve Smith....Both are great WR's and speedy. But both had numbers that were hurt dramaticaly by NOT having another WR opposite them. Jackson will be in the same boat as Lee and Steve were last season

Then you have the Lito Sheppard debacle....**** is really goin on? They go out and spend money in one of the places they didnt needed it (the Secondary) and now they have a unhappy player with a HUGE contract that they cant deal to anyone.

You responded quickly and I like that.......TD's we do are always fun so here we go......

McNabb has never had a premier WR (before TO) yet he has had success.......Thats a fact.......Any sports fan knows.......

Philly had a better defense than Buffalo and Carolina.......Buffalo and Carolina had inconsistent QB's.......If healthy and you have to assume he will be if you take this TD.......Philly is fine.......Jackson will be McNabb's home run threat.......Way better than Ginn......

They werent lucky, they have a solid defense that got better........

The Eagles have the best nickel back in the NFL.......And if they are as good as I think, winning solves all problems......

"Jackson will be McNabb's home run threat....Way better than Ginn......"

People tend to forget that you DO NOT NEED a home run threat all the time. What you need is a 6-5 Wr that can go up and catch the fade in the corner of the endzone on 3rd and Goal. That's the WR that makes a TD instead of kicking a FG. If my WR is faster than your CB I can beat you deep every time..How come Buffalo scored LESS TD's than Randy Moss last season? Lee Evans is faster than about 65-70% of DB's in the NFL..Steve Smith too...yet BOTH Wr's struggled without a legit threat opposite. The only type of WR that can survive by themselves and be productive are big strong WR's. Like TO...Like Randy Moss....Like Chad Johnson...Those are the guys who can get up and out jump thier cover guy. Desean Jackson doesnt bring that element to the table in Philly, and thats what McNabb wanted. Mcnabb knows that Curtis and Westbrook can get them in FG range, but the Offense still needs that corner threat...

"Buffalo and Carolina had inconsistent QB's.."

Thats the most "INCOSISTENT" thing you've ever said....If Buffalo and Car are inconsistent at QB, What does that make Philly who has started 6 QB's in 3 years?

This was assuming McNabb plays 12-13 games, Goodell.......And it does take 2 years to recover from his particular injury......Losman and Edwards are inconsistent because of their age......If McNabb is healthy he is model of consistency.......McNabb last year.......61.5%, 3324 yards , 19 TD's, 7 INT's........Without Smith or Evans......

Plus McNabb is still just 31, doesnt it seem like he should be 34 or 35????

Reggie Brown is a physical possession WR and Curtis a solid WR.......Jackson provides deep threat and its nice to have a 6-5 WR but there arent too many of them out growing on trees........

"Jackson provides deep threat and its nice to have a 6-5 WR but there arent too many of them out growing on trees"

Your right...They dont grow on trees, but they are able to be drafted and molded into good WR's. Jackson was taken 49th overall last draft. Lets see if there are any decent WR prospects taken after him, Shall we?

Pick #51: Malcolm Kelly - 6 foot 4
Pick #53: Limas Sweed - 6 foot 4

Hell, Fred Davis would have been a nice pick up at TE since he's 6 foot 4 too....

Now either one of those guys would have been a better threat in the red-zone than Jackson. Jackson cant get up and catch those fades to the Corner like Plaxico did to seal the Super Bowl....

"Reggie Brown is a physical possession WR and Curtis a solid WR"

Nah...not really. Curtis did have a great season last year, but I dont expect him to repeat that at all. Let's take a look at all the good WR tadem's in the NFL that are worth a damn...

Witten and TO
Chad and TJ
Marvin and Reggie
Randy and Wes
Bolin and Fitz
White and Horn

Curtis, Brown and Jackson dont come close to any of those guys..

I will give Curtis his props cause he did have a good season last year, but Brown is a scrub

This should be fun, Goody

Better luck with this 1

LOL

f this keeps up me n u will TD more than me and NCDavid

Report Offensive Comment

we didnt need a corner? Are you nuts guy misses 16 games in 3 seasons thats enough reason for me, no matter how good a player is he cant do anything off the field, hense why mcnabb must stay healthy

Do picks next

Report Offensive Comment

McNabb's injury takes 2 years to recover from fully. This year he will be back to his Pro Bowl form.

Report Offensive Comment

No he won't. He's gonna get hurt again.

Report Offensive Comment

I think the Eagles go 7-9 at best. More like 6-10.

Report Offensive Comment

I think they will be fine. Westbrook is such an offensive threat that they have less of a need for a big-time WR. Jackson and Curtis can stretch the field, while LJ Smith and Westbrook work underneath. Don't get me wrong they would be better with a "large" receiver, but when they had TO they made it to the super bowl...when they had average to above-average WRs, they still made the playoffs. Its hard for me to think they would finish below .500 if they stay relatively healthy. As far as that division goes, I really think they are as good as the Giants and better than the Skins. They should go atleast 3-3 in the division which will probably be 6 of their tougher games on the schedule.

Report Offensive Comment

Westbrook is the best WR they have

Report Offensive Comment

Thats the truth!

Here are the QB's that Philly has started over the past 3 seasons

AJ Feely
Donovan McNabb
Mike McMahon
Koy Detmer
Jeff Garcia

And you say Buffalo and Carolina are "inconsistent" at QB

Report Offensive Comment

Goodell is right on the home run threat thing.

Even the biggest home run threats in the league rarely hit more than 10 home runs a year...

Stat wise, Goody

SIGH

Report Offensive Comment

McNabb has done it before without an elite WR

Report Offensive Comment

All this and u think they are 7-9 or worse????

Nah

9-7
