- In honor of stowe, 36 + age requirement.
- Active player and current stats

C- Ivan Rodriguez DET
1B- Jason Giambi NYY
2B- Jeff Kent LAD
3B- Chipper Jones ATL
SS- Craig Counsell MIL
OF- Manny Ramirez BOS
OF- Raul Ibanez SEA
OF- Luis Gonzalez FLA

DH- Jim Thome CHW

SP- Jose Contreras CHW
RP- Doug Brocail HOU
CL- Mariano Rivera NYY

I will list my differences only (I tried to get as many differences as possible):

C - Jason Varitek
2B - Ray Durham
OF - Brian Giles (replaces Gonzalez from yours)
SP - Mike Mussina

Since you didn't argue, I won't argue either.

Ok...

1) Varitek vs Pudge

Now, who do I want? Pudge. Why? Easy, he has produced more. How can you say that when Varitek has more HRs( just 6 more) and RBIs (just 2 more)?! Well, only those two aren't enough to say if one is better or not..
No, we have to look at who has more hits? Pudge. (As well as more extra-base hits)
Who struckout more? Varitek (15 more times), even though he has 20 less ABs.
Higher bat. avg? Pudge.
More stolen bases? Pudge. Varitek has none.
And on Defense? Well, if you check them out, they basically have identical stats, so I say it's a push on D.

So, even though Varitek has posted up better stats in some places, who has produced better overall this year? Pudge.

Who would you rather have on your team right now? Pudge, due to his leadership qualities, defensive play, and consistancy on the offensive side as well.

2) Kent vs Durham

Kent has most ABs, most HRs, most RBIs and highest slugging pct than any other 3B 36 and over.
But not only on offense either, he has 34 more assists than Durham BUT just 1 more error and two hundreths of field pct lower. So I don't see where Durham could have a clear edge on Kent as Kent does on Durham.

Are you saying Varitek isn't a leader? When Varitek gets injured or misses a game, the team suffers. Who has handled a young pitching staff better? That's right Varitek.

You bring up the fact that Pudge has less Ks but Varitek has fewer ABs but fail to mention that when you mentioned hits and xtra base hits? For shame on you Ghosthunter....Pudge has 11 more hits in 18 more ABs, 1 more total base than Varitek in 18 more ABs (so when Varitek gets on he does gets more bases), Varitek also has 8 more walks. Varitek has a .007 better OBP and .029 better slugging %....give me Varitek any day.

Kent v Durham: In 29 fewer ABs, Durham has the same number of hits and runs as Kent...Durham has 6 more doubles and 6 fewer HRs...Durham also has 15 more walks than Kent, Durham has 5 SBs to Kent's 0....Durham's OBP is .095 points higher than Kents and Durham's slugging % is only .011 points below Kent's....and Durham's BA is .037 points higher than Durham.

I think I take C with Varitek and I'll give you a push at 2nd....

1) I never said Varitek wasn't a leader...but on Pudge's level??
2) You prefer a minimal advantage of pct. points over 15 less strikeouts and a higher bat avg?
3) Same thing here, your argument for Durham are .0s pct.?! How about Kent= more consistant hrs, rbis, slugging. Kent = better defensive player. Kent > Durham

Mussina vs Contreras

If we just put aside the wins for Mussina, what else does he have??

Contreras has lower ERA by .63
Contreras has more SOs
Contreras has allowed less earned runs, and less hits even though he has pitched 13 more innings.

Let's not crucify Contreras for his W-L record when we all know it's not his fault. THIS YEAR, he has posted up better stats than Mussina, and I would rather have him on my team.

Gonzo vs Giles

Giles lead only on Bat avg. Simple.

In 78 less ABs, Gonzo same amount of HRs and more RBIs than him.

Now I know, Giles has more numbers everywhere else, but let's put things in context. Gonzo hasn't played every game for the Marlins, rather every-other...not because he's hurt, quite the contrary, every time he played, he has stepped up and delivered. A great leader and much more consistant than Giles is.

Yes, Contreras' numbers are better in some categories except K/BB ratio (Mussina's is 4.18 while Jose's is 2.29), BB/9 (Mussina's is 1.22 and Jose's is 2.29) and you have to take into account Win/Loss Record....from the beginning of the year the White Sox were a better team than the Yankees were (the Sox were leading their division while the Yankees were in the cellar - it's not like you're comparing a pitcher for the Red Sox to one on the Pirates and trying to compare wins - the Yankees are 40-33 and the White Sox are 41-31 wins can be counted in this case)....Mussina is 10-4 while Jose is 6-5.

Can DH be anyone or does it have to be a DH?

June 20, 2008  12:22 PM ET

Can someone be turning 36 this season or has to already be 36 as of this date?

June 20, 2008  12:28 PM ET

DH and 36.

June 20, 2008  12:48 PM ET

Good luck Ghost in the first TD between us....

June 20, 2008  12:52 PM ET

Durham? You're retarded stowie....

June 20, 2008  12:56 PM ET

Durham sucks. He cant field worth ****, and manages to kill EVERY rally that is goin on when he comes to the plate. Total failure.

June 20, 2008  12:58 PM ET

Thanks as always for the love Cain and providing Ghost with his arguments....

June 20, 2008  12:59 PM ET

Wanted to get as many differences as I could and still be able to try to argue my choices....

June 20, 2008  01:00 PM ET

Randy Johnson?

June 20, 2008  01:00 PM ET

Figured just by naming a Giant Cain, I would get your vote....and that is all what matters to me - getting you to vote for me.

June 20, 2008  01:01 PM ET

Oh, saw current stats, never mind

June 20, 2008  01:02 PM ET

Durham is ACTUALLY a DODGER pretending to be a Giant, and then sabetoging them from the inside! duh.

June 20, 2008  01:02 PM ET

MD - believe me, if it was all-time stats these would not be the choices by either of us...

that's even better because my opponent chose a Dodger, so Cain a vote for my opponent is a vote FOR the Dodgers as well!

June 20, 2008  01:03 PM ET

And being the Giants fan you are, I know it is going to be very tough for you to force yourself to do that.

June 20, 2008  01:05 PM ET

Poor Cain, voted for the Dodger....I'm going to tell the Giants fan club on you.......both fans will be upset!

June 20, 2008  01:10 PM ET

Not sure about Durham, but I'd definitely take 'Tek over Pudge and Moose over Contreras. And Giles is suprising the crap out of me this year with his big OBP.

I'll wait for more.

June 20, 2008  01:16 PM ET

I'll get to diff. 3 and 4 on last.

June 20, 2008  01:35 PM ET

YES! A Brewer got named up there!

June 20, 2008  01:52 PM ET

Somehow I hit submit early before getting to Giles...oh well, I'm not a newbie and I"m not going to complain about it.
