TT Tourney - Best Owner/ Fan

Whether you hate him or not. Whether you think he's a jackass or not. Whether he looks like a big spoiled baby or not. You have to admit. This owner is a die-hard fan of his team.

He's always there in the sidelines, cheering, waving, acting like a nut. He also whines and cries when his team looses. He's a complete homer.

As an owner, he made the franchise respectable, being a powerhouse in his conference for the past 4 yrs, even reaching the Finals in one occasion.

Whether you personally like him or not, as I do not, you gotta give credit where it's due. Mark Cuban is the best owner/ fan out there today. Just ask the Mavs organization and fans.

No other owner acts like a beer- bellied drunk, annoying, obnoxious, irritating, childish fan so exactly as Cuban does. And for that, he deserves credit.

My choice is a surprising one as well.

This man is the epitome of what his organization stands for. He doesn't give a crap what the league or other team owner's care about or do.

He may be getting up there in age now and the game is passing him by (hence the bad moves over the last couple of years), however, this hasn't deterred him from trying to make his team better (even though the moves haven't worked), he still believes he his helping his team.

My choice is the team-moving, NFL-suing, jumpsuit wearing, Just Win Baby, owner of the Oakland Raiders - Al "I'm suing the NFL for the hell of it and I'm going to win" Davis.

In fanhood, both are passionate, I give you that. But I give the edge to Cuban...why?

Who constantly is in the news for getting fined due to inappropriate statements? Cuban.

Who is always whining and crying in his team's defense? Cuban.

Who is right there next to the players cheering and patting them on the back while chewing his nails in tension? Cuban.

Cuban is passionate to the point of practically being a homer. He says what he feels in his team's name, knowing he's going to open up his checkbook. He's a hands-on, involved fan with complete power over his beloved franchise.

But not only that no, Cuban has also proved to be a great owner, unlike Davis, who recently has made the Raiders, through bad ownership decisions, the laughing stock of the NFL. Bad personnel moves, bad signings equals bad team and bad record, which ultimatly reflects on the owner.

While Davis may be a good fan of the Raiders, recently, he has been anything but a good owner.

The same can't be said for Cuban, who while is a passionate fan, as an owner, has also taken his team to a 71% over the past 4 yrs.

If this TD was about who was the better owner now, you would be right with Cuban although who decided to bring in Jason Kidd and basically destroyed that team?

Al Davis has always done what was best for his team - Oakland not working for him, move the team to LA...LA not working move the team back to Oakland - what the NFL wants be damned...he did that to improve the fanbase of the team.

Al Davis was also the first owner to hire a minority coach - Tom Flores in 79 and then the first african-american coach in 89 in Art Shell. He did not to be politcally correct but because he thought they would Just Win Baby and be Committed to Excellence.

There is no doubt the game has passed him by (just based on his recent player/coach moves) however, there is no one else in all of sports who loves his team more and is always trying to do what he can to get the team back to its prominence of old....whether it works or not.

Davis is a Raider at heart.....there is no doubt that he bleeds silver and black.

- Fined for "several acts of misconduct" committed after Dallas lost 101-100.

- Invaded court to argue with official.

- Stared down Stern and NBA Officials in Finals against Heat.

- "Ed Rush (Director of Officials) might have been a great ref, but I wouldn't hire him to manage a Dairy Queen."

- Suspended from one game for making a derogatory gesture during a 111-106 loss to the Phoenix Suns.

- Fined after sitting on the baseline during a road game.

- Had arena officials freeze a replay of an offensive goaltending violation he thought officials missed, then had photographers take pictures of it.

- Escorted off the court after a confrontation with an official. (2000)

- Known for flying his $41 million private airplane to attend away games, while always wearing Mavs T-shirts and jerseys.

Nope, these incidents aren't from unruly players or coach...it's the owner. Screw the tie and the suit, this loudmouth guy is insanely passionate and a fan's dream come true; to not only root but to have control of your team.

Being a loud, jackass while in the stands is one thing (just to get your name in the papers or highlights of your tantrums on Sportscenter)....taking on the NFL and the other owners over your rights to move the team when and where you please? That's priceless.

Hiring players no matter their previous conduct issues just because you believe they will help your team win? That's a fan.

Has Cuban ever been voted as a person in the #1 Rivalry for his sport? Al Davis' feuds with Tagliabue was ranked as the #1 Rivalry in the NFL....not team v team but owner versus commish just based on his love for the Raiders and what he felt were slights to his favorite team by the league.

Good luck my bingo playing friend.

Let's not ignore history. Cuban may be "now" and Davis may be "then" but we must consider the totality of both their tenures, correct?

Hey...Is Cuban "now" enough to be "Who's NOW" on ESPN?

Report Offensive Comment

I have one that blows both those guys away, technically not an owner, but major financial supporter and controller of an organization/UUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUBER FAN:

Phil Knight and the Oregon University Athletic Program.

Sorry Ghost- staring at stern at court vs TAKING THEM TO FEDERAL COURT

Jerry Jones. He made them America's team and no one has a passion for his team like he does. Look at how the players and the Dallas Cowboys fans love the guy.

Report Offensive Comment

Also, Ghost I am loving the new avatar. Have you seen Havoc?

c note - Dallas was America's Team WAY before Jones took over and led them to a 1-15 record....
