They needed a PG......
Shaun Livingston is hurt and may not recover.......
Brevin Knight (4.6ppg and 4.4apg) isnt the answer
Dan Dickau (5.3ppg and 2.6apg) is a free agent.......
I understand that Corey Maggette is a free agent but they have scorers in Brand, Kaman, Cuttino Mobley and Tim Thomas........
They could have had DJ Augustin or Jerryd Bayless.......
thebasketballguru said 06/27, 06:46 PM
No, and i will tell you why.
Eric Gordon was the best player on the board that the Clippers would have taken.
They are obviously going to sign and trade Maggettee, likely to Toronto and Gordon is now going to be the starting shooting guard.
Also DJ Augustin and Jerryd Bayless are not as good as Eric Gordon, who is not as well known among most casual fans because his play was overshadowed by the Indiana recruiting scandal.
And you are not forgeting that the Clippers could sign a free agent point guard as well.
Plus they picked up Mike Taylor, a POUNT GUARD, look at that, in the second round. Eric Gordon was the right pick for La at number 7 and was definetly not a mistake.

I havent heard anything about Maggette to Toronto and I know about most things NBA..........Plus why would the Raps trade for Maggette when they could just sign him???? Hmmmm.........
Gordon is a scorer, Augustin and Bayless are PG's.......So its debateable when you compare two different type position players........But Bayless is a combo guard and can handle the ball better than Gordon and can score just as well.......So Bayless would be a perfect SG, a guy who can score and play the Point in a pinch.......
The Clippers arent going to spend a bunch on a quality FA PG because they have a priority, signing Elton Brand.......
Mike Taylor???? Who???? You really think a 2nd round pick that is considered a bench player at best is going to be running this team????

thebasketballguru said 06/28, 02:30 PM
If you lived in Canada you would hear nthe rumours since the Raptors get zero coverage in the U.S.
They don't need to spend much to get a quality point guard.
Gordon is the best fit for the Clippers as they do not have a scorer like Air Gordon on their roster. Maggette is not better than Gordon so they improved their scoring tremedously by picking Gordon.
Also there is a big possibility that Brand won't sign with the Clippers, and they need a new franchise player and Gordon can be that guy.
Also if you can tell me in one offensive category besides assists, that Dj Augustin or Jerryd Bayless led in over Gordon I will be impressed.
djroxalot LOL at LSU said 06/28, 02:44 PM
T and R covers all teams..............
Air Gordon????
Thought that was his Airness, Michael Jordan and calling Gordon Air Gordon is a flat out insult.........
Gordon isnt a FRANCHISE PLAYER, he might be a watered down Ben Gordon, but thats it........And Ben Gordon isnt being resigned by the Bulls.......
Augustin 43.9%, 38.1% on 3's
Bayless 45.8%, 40.7% on 3's
Westbrook 46.5%, 33.8% on 3's
Gordon may have 20.9ppg but he made just 43.3% plus DJ White was there in the paint......He only made 33.7% on 3's and NBA range is farther back than college......
thebasketballguru said 06/28, 05:38 PM
Eric Gordon should not be compared to Ben Gordon, Eric Gordon was talked about as a top 5 pick and even number 1 in this years draft before the season. But the Indiana fiasco hurt his play and his stock dropped.
Air Gordon is just a nickname, the fans in Chicago have used Air Gordon for Ben Gordon before so lighten up.
It doesn't matter if Gordon has a lower 3pt %, he obviously shot more threes than those two point guards.
We would be saying the exact same thing if Augustin was drafted to, the only sensible pick besides Gordon would have been Bayless, and Bayless is not as good as Gordon.

Gordon best on board? I think he is highly overrated and don't think he should have been drafted this high but not for dj's reason. He was a 43% shooter in college, yet all I here is he is a great shooter. 33% from 3 with a much shorter three point line. He also had DJ White to keep teams honest and was still that mediocre of a shooter. He is pigeon holed as a great shooter, yet isn't even good at that.

Clippers should have taken Bayless. They need a PG but they also need some scoring. Bayless gives them both.

Eric Gordon was the best player on the board. He would overpower Bayless and he would go by westbrook. Eric was better than those guys in HS and still is. He does need to work on his dribbling skills and his shot selection. I think he needed one more year but so did alot of other players.

The comparisons to Augustine are not fair since Augustine is a point guard and Gordon is a 2. If the Clippers were looking for a point guard, then it doesn't make sense to take a player at number 7 that you need to groom. Gordon is turnover proned, and lacks ball-handling skills.
