1990 New York Mets vs. Atlanta Braves.
David Cone was arguing a play at first base when he missed the bag and while arguing, two players came around to score. His teammates kept trying to tell him to throw the ball but he kept arguing.

Jose Canseco letting a flyball bounce of his head and become a home run.....perfect example of roids increasing the size of your head. Maybe if he never did roids the ball only hits the wall instead of going over it?
THE HUNT 4 RED SOCKTOBER said 06/30, 09:47 AM
I knew someone would pick that.
The thing is that David Cone's blooper has more parts to it than Jose Canseco's.
1st, David Cone missed the base
2nd, David tries arguing allowing two runs to score
3rd, his players were pulling him away from the ump to get him to throw the ball.
Canseco's play has only one part to that it his head and bounced over the wall.
if i had to be in either position, i would rather be in canseco's because Cone had to walk back on the mound in a visitor's ballpark to discover that two runs scored during his arguement.

Cone's "blooper" is called getting caught up in the moment - arguing what he believed was a missed call. Knoblauch did the same during a playoff game against the Indians - that one was worse because it was the playoffs. Being the competitor Cone was, this really isn't a blooper but just getting caught up and arguing for what he believed was a blown call.
Canseco's however, is a true blooper. How many major league outfielder's have misplayed a ball hit to them so badly, that the ball bounces off the top of their head and instead of an out or a double/triple it becomes a HR?
I've never once seen footage of Cone's "blooper" but Canseco's is shown on any blooper highlight show.

The definition of blooper is an embarrassing mistake.
You aren't going to tell me how missing the base then arguing the call while play is still going on allowing runners to score is an embarrassing mistake.
Just because you haven't seen Cone's doesn't make it not a blooper.
you say how he got caught up in the moment, but it led to being a blooper when the runs scored. You would without a doubt want to be in Canseco's position and not Cone's
rstowe - The NMI Emperor said 06/30, 10:33 AM
The biggest blooper in my opinion is which one is remembered most. Is Cone's remembered? No. Is Canseco's? Most definitely.
I would rather be Cone than Canseco. I would rather be remembered for arguing a call and letting runs scored then allowing a baseball (which being a pro I should catch) bounce off my head and be repeated for eternity on all blooper shows. Has Cone's blooper ever been replayed? I seriously doubt it since I watch all the blooper shows and have never seen it. You see Canseco's at least once a year, if not more.
To me the biggest blooper is the most remembered one so that would be Canseco's.

Report Offensive CommentThis has little to do with the TD, but Cone is treated like Yankee royalty by the YES network. The guy wasnt exactly Mr. Character when we all knew him. Its kinda funny.

Report Offensive CommentHe's a pretty good analyst, but he talks a lot and sometimes has that strange habit when he never finishes his sentence. He just stops and lets it float away at the end.

Report Offensive CommentA blooper is defined as the following: an embarrassing mistake, a blunder. Synonyms: Error, blunder, slip, gaffe, goof. I honestly think Cone's mistake was an embarrassing one, but I see a blooper as something that occurs that is so amusing that it never should have happened. Cone was in control of the play and just lost his mind. I also attribute bloopers to physical occurrences, not mental errors.
Moondizzle...The Original. | 06/30/08, 11:47 AM
Report Offensive CommentBiggest? I think the Canseco blooper is more universally known and shown. To be honest, I had completely forgotten about Cone until this TD. Definitely boneheaded, but nothing compares to the grace and style of Canseco in the outfield.

Report Offensive CommentLonnie Smith during the '91 World Series. Knoblauch faked him out and he stopped at second base instead of advancing to third. The Twins won that game in extra innings...1-0. Went on to win the series. DAG, it hurt to type that and relive it.
