I won't give you the list of all the changes since were supposed to be fanatics on this site, everyone should no what they are. I am referring to rules made this offseason to be implemented in 2009. So which one will have the biggest impact to the game itself. I say the no more "force out" rule will. No longer can a ref call a catch a reception because the reciever was pushed out of bounds. Either his feet are in or its not a reception.
I forsee situations where recievers are forced out not only on the sidelines, but also in the back of the end zone. This will impact offenses, specifically on points scored, and trying to move the chains. It will also impact games at the 2 minute warning.
This rule will help defenses and hurt offenses in the end. Out of all the rules, I see this one having the biggest impact on the games themselves.

I will take the Defensive Player with the Radio Helmet. I dont feel this is really even close.
For starters the "Forced Out Catch" was only called 15 times the entire previous season. Thats not quite that much an Impact. I know it will have a slight effect on how DB's cover close to the line, but were talking a total of 50 plays effected at the most per season.
Now the defensive Radio? That is the changer. Whether you think its good or bad (I personally think bad its National Field Goal League already) it will change the game forever. It will change virtually play.
A coach in the sky box. He has clear view of the players coming on and off for the offense. He has a clear view of the line-up formation. He has a clear view of the shifts and motions. He can direct this knowledge to a player in real time (no delay with signals). That player in turn can direct this to his teamates. Were talking major, major change here. I look for season scoring to decline by 20% as a result of this rule.

Actually there are still some major issues with the radio helmet for defensive players.
1. Who wears it, not all of the same players are on the field at one time
2. The line is cut off in time to prevent the DC from calling a play (audible)
3. There can be only one raido wired helmet per defensive squad. So unless all your players have the same size melon, good luck when your starting LB gets hurt or is taking a blow.
50 plays can add up. This rule will change not only the play calling of offenses, but it will also change the play of CBs. They will get more physical, thus some recievers will be more intimidating. Dropping balls or not trying to make a play because they will be ruled out.
Out of all the rule changes this is the most significant to next years season. The defesive radio helmet will effect things down the road but the effects won't be as immediate.

For starters, You are comparing the elimination of a Rule that was only used 15 times the previous season to a rule that will change every offense vs defense play. That is unless there is an issue with the head its on and the defense winds up on the field blind in which case they better hope they have a time out. Either way, It still affected the play. When it all tallies up the Defensive Radio will have the most impact on games.
There is a line cut, there is also a line cut for the offense. Think about this, the everyone is doing it response to spygate. Now that may not be 100% true but if any team (especially the dynasty team) is taking the time out to get the signals it must be very beneficial. Now there will be no signals. Nothing to read.
Here it is in a nutshell: The defense will have more knowledge of what the offense is doing while the offense has less knowledge of what the defense is doing than in years past.
vs
15 plays from last season will be ruled incomplete

Sending a hand signal essentially does the same thing. It is just about as fast to. The differnce is you aren't going through a sideline "realy" coach to signal.
The raido gets cut out as per the rules, similar to how a QBs helmet loses communication with what time left on the game clock to AVOID an unfair advantage. This rule does not change anything next year.
My guess is the first year it is in place it will cause issues for some teams and they may abanden the use all together since for the last ohh 60 years they have been used to firing the signals off the sidelines.
Your acting like the DC can quick call an audible for his defense mere seconds before the ball is snapped that is simply untrue. The rule about the connection to the booth being cut is league wide and has nothing to do with cheating. Qbs helmets are not active the entire time, neither will these be,.
Frank Pentangelli is READY said 07/01, 02:52 PM
The old method:
The package comes onto the field from the other sideline. The booth coach analyzes it. (Somesituations a blind coach makes the call from the sideline without full knowledge/view of what the offense is doing). He tells another coach on the sideline. He gives the hand signals. The linebacker gets the handsignals. The linebacker barks orders. They set and get ready to play. The offense got the same handsignals from the defense. They then set into their play while someone like Ray Lewis tries to figure it out and rebark orders.
The new method:
The coach (typically more knowledgable than a player) in the booth reads the package, the set up, and the motion of the offense and is able to relay it to the linebacker in real time for the same amt that the offense is. The linebacker can relay the info to teamates in real time also without having to pick up the hand signs from the sideline. Verbal communication is what humans are best at. Not to mention the opposing offense dosent also get the defenses signals.
This is going to have a huge and immediate impact on the game. Scoring will drastically decrease.

Report Offensive CommentThe radio rule was a good pick, but I have to lean towards the force-out rule. For instance, any team playing Peyton Manning won't have as much of an advantage because he audibles all the time, and the DC won't be able to compensate. On the other hand, we have all seen where force-out calls, or those being blown, have decided games.
Me personally, I thought the force-out rule was dumb. The more judgement call opportunities the NFL had, the more calls could be blown. Out is out. If you catch the ball on the side line, you should always know where your feet are to be able to stay in.

Report Offensive CommentVote right....something that is involved in every single play is more important and will have more of an impact on a game than something that was only called 15 times TOTAL for all games last season.
The D will get the plays quicker (will still have to adjust to an audible from the QB as they always have had).

Report Offensive CommentThe thing about the forced out catch is that sideline catches are going to be extremely hard now.
Basically all a defender has to do is push the receiver and it's not a catch.

but when can you push him? the line between that and interference erases that, remember this rule was only called 15 times all last season

If he's making a catch in mid-air, and has the ball, and is clearly in bounds (but is in the air), all a defender has to do is push him out and it's a no catch. Is that fair?
Then again the refs never called the Push-Out right anyways. Remember the Browns-Cardinals game? That was so a catch, and cost the Browns the play-offs
