If the Yankees get swept by the Rays hen the Yankees will not make the playoffs.

If the Tampa Bay Rays sweep the Yankees, the Yankees will not make the playoffs because they will be 10 games back and they just will not be able to get those 10 games back before the season ends.

Getting swept will hurt....however, last year, the Yankees were 11 games out and still made the playoffs.

The season is long and the Steinbrenners are never ones to shy away from making moves needed to contend.

Yes, it will hurt but you can never ever count out the Yankees. Winning the division may be out but making the playoffs is always a possibility with that team.

The Yankees do not have the roster that they do last year. Matsui and Damon are both on the DL. And last year the Yankees did not have to worry about another team winning the wild card. This year they will have to worry about the Boston Red Sox, the Rays, the White Sox, and the Twins (mainly two of those teams that wont win their division).

THe Yankees will just not be able to make up that much ground

Last year the Yankees had to worry about Seattle who was in the hunt till the last 2 weeks of the year.

Yes they don't have the same roster as last year, but then again who really does? The Rays could pull a historic collapse (simillar to what Boston almost did last season by turning a 14 game division lead into 2). There are no guarantees in baseball especially in July. It does not matter where you are in the standings on July 8th, but only on September 30th.

The Yankees, out of all teams in baseball, can never ever be counted out until the last day of the season. Vets like Jeter, Posada and Rivera know what they need to do, plus they have the ownership that is willing to make moves needed, so you just never know what the roster will be like come the end of July, the end of August and the end of September.

Baseball is all about getting hot and staying hot and you just never know which team can pull a 21 game streak like the rockies did last season to come from nowhere and make the playoffs.

getting swept in one series in a season at the half way point will not make or break a team...

any lose hurts... but come on... there is still LOTS of baseball to be played.

loss hurts sorry about that

long season.

Report Offensive Comment

Umm...right now I'm voting to rstowe.

Report Offensive Comment

Everyone loves to over-react and sound the alarms at really, the silliest times. This team, as rstowe pointed out, was 11 games back. Lack of arguments there is not helping.

Careful, Nolan gets plenty of phantom votes if history tells us anything.

Report Offensive Comment

same thing folks said last year, and the Yanks could be 12 out and you still can't count them out, also their only 4.5 back for the wildcard sooooooooooo

Report Offensive Comment

I already agree with rsotowe. If he has a decent second argument, he'll have my vote. Nolan, you are going to need some better arguments...

Report Offensive Comment

Based on arguments, I'm voting right.

There are 162 games in a season. And we are a little more than halfway through the season. That still gives the Yanks and a number of other teams like the Mets time to get their acts together and play playoff baseball. Plus I wouldn't bet against the Yanks.

hmmm.....I'm going to be watching this one carefully.

How does this guy vote? No friends, no TDs, no comments, no blogs yet manages to vote?

rstowe, Nolan has a significant amount of 'friends' who vote for him but are inactive on the site. Now, those 'friends' may have identities of their own. Maybe not.

i have said it before michael is my step brother and then there is another one of my friends from high school that vote for me - i do nto have phantom accounts

Report Offensive Comment

Nolan I know you have said it before. But if they use the site, why aren't they active? Not many comments, friends, throwdowns, blogs. I mean...comments are pretty easy to make. Its safe to say you call them or get in touch to sign in to vote, which isn't technically wrong since it isn't you yourself. But it is a little cheezy. They don't vote unless you're around.

ok i understand

You may want to use more than 500 characters in 2 arguments total. Thats not going to get you anywhere. With 2400 characters available, you used roughly 1/5.

Report Offensive Comment

Exactly what Moon said.....that's good they're not your dupe accounts but it does bring up questions regarding you if they only vote for you.....you definitely don't want other users on this site start questioning the integrity of the votes you receive....that can lead to major issues similar to what is happneing to another user on this site.

Report Offensive Comment

You didn't need to forfeit this Nolan....you could have argued for your 3rd argument.

Report Offensive Comment

what is that user going through

Report Offensive Comment

that user always has a bunch of either new users or non-active users that only vote in their TDs and always for that person, no matter the arguments....it has led to many accusations of that user creating mulitiple accounts and using them just for voting in their TDs.....also in one recent TD, had 3 votes removed - the only way votes get removes is from dupe accounts.

It is far better to get people to vote for your arguments than to have your friends vote for you just because....
