He revolutionized the game of football by playing RB and QB and even reciever! The Heisman goes to "the most OUTSTANDING player" (it actually says this on the trophy). Mcfadden was the most OUTSTANDING player.

There was 1 major reason he didn't win (plus, who cares anymore? - he is no longer in college and winning the heismann is almost a curse for your NFL career anyways) - the reason is he disappeared in some games:

Against Auburn: 43 yds rushing in 17 attempts
Against Florida International: 61 yds rushing in 19 attempts
Against Missippi State: 88 yds rushing in 28 attempts

If you are a heisman winner, you do not only get 61 yds rushing against FIU! Arkansas still won those games that McFadden played poorly in so he wasn't as big of a "cornerstone" as you think. The games Tebow played poorly in, Florida lost (LSU, GA). You take Tebow off the Gators and they have more than 3 losses. Arkansas showed that they could win without McFadden.

If he produced every game he might have won it - plus what Tebow did by passing for over 20 TDs and rushing for 20 was historic.

First off- the only reason Arkansas won those games without much help from Mcfadden was because those were not very good at all.
Second- Mcfadden had been hurt durring some of those games.
Third- His coach, Nutt, did give him many attempts in those games. Most went to Jones. Those runs that he did get were manly to the sides where he is not as strong. He's better trucking it up the middle! Also in most of those games he didn't get to use the wild hog much wich is his best weapon.
Finnally- Tim T-bow played for Florida, one of the better teams in the leage. Mcfadden played for Arkansas, not the best team in the leage. So T-bow was surrounded by great players, linemen included. Mcfadden was stuck with not so good linemen and he still put up HUGE numbers.

Judging by your avatar, you are a Razorback homer and obviously are still upset at Tebow winning the Heisman even half a year later.....however.....

your first point in your second argument that they won those games without him because they weren't very good at all - then he should have DOMINATED them when he did get the carries but he didn't....

Yes, McFadden had a great season but Tebow had a record setting season - when 2 players are close in accomplishments, the guy who did something that had never been done before is going to win the Heisman.

Like I said in my first argument - McFadden is better off NOT winning the Heisman - that is pretty much a jinx when it comes to NFL careers! Let Tebow win the Heisman and continue to play at Floriday but will be a bust in the NFL, while DMac stands a pretty good chance of being an outstanding NFL player.

It's 6 months later, let it go! Plus, all the Heisman is, is a bunch of rich, white guys in NY who don't really follow NCAA football, but want to feel important so in the grand scheme of things - does it really matter that he didn't win it? Would it have made him get drafted higher? I don't think so, so just let it go.

O.K. All those points about the NFL, the Draft, etc. are completly irelevent. I don't care that it will "jinx" his NFL career thats just you being supersticous(spelling).
Mcfadden not doing good in those games was because he did not get as many carries as usual, he ran up the side not the middle, he was hurt, and he didn't get to use the wild hog. It was not because he was a bad player.
And are you saying Mcfadden didn't do something original? 321yds in one game, passing for long touchdowns, catching touchdowns. He was a one of a kind! So don't tell me a guy like him comes around every year.

Oh. . . and what you said about the heisman voters is just saying that you agree with me so, thanks!

Okay, so you say DMac revolutionized the position because he was a receiver and a running back? There was another RB that had better stats in both categories than DMac - Kevin Smith of UCF.

Smith had 2567 yds rushing and 29 rushing TDs (DMac - 1830 and 16 TDs). Smith had 242 yds receiving and a 10.1 yard per catch average (DMac - 164 yds and a 7.8 yard per catch average).

So how could DMac revolutionize the position while there was at least 1 more RB in the nation with better stats? Smith also was 1 for 1 in passing for a TD (compared to 6 for 11 for 4 TDs for DMac).

So while McFadden had a great season, it wasn't even the best numbers for a RB last season (just pure numbers). Ray Rice and Matt Forte as well had more rushing and receiving yards than DMac....so right there are 3 WRs with better rushing and receiving yards, the only DMac has over them is the passing stats - which isn't that big of a deal.

"He revolutionized the game of football by playing RB and QB and even reciever!"

I guess I missed the "revolution." Are you saying McFadden once spun a football on his finger, and thus made revolutions? Because the concept of players playing more than one position is actually quite old, not new.

lol, good call Ram

July 14, 2008  10:22 AM ET

Heismans are usually handed out to players on very good teams - Florida for instance

"He revolutionized the game of football by playing RB and QB and even reciever!"

I have to agree with RAM, I am going to need you to explain this statement.

July 14, 2008  10:26 AM ET

He revolutionized NOTHING. He just played a bunch of positions. When he played QB, he just ran anyway, so that isn't exactly playing QB. He took the snap, but he was still playing RB.

July 14, 2008  10:30 AM ET

Stll failed to back up the "revolutionized" claim!

I'll come back and check and change the vote if necessary but I don't see that being the case.

July 14, 2008  10:33 AM ET

I will cover his revolutionized statment in my 3rd argument if I can....

July 14, 2008  10:34 AM ET

When he played QB he did pass. South Carolina v. Arcansas- Mcfadden: 40 yrd TD pass. And thats just one example1

July 14, 2008  10:40 AM ET

I've got his stats from last season.....6 of 11 passing....21 receptions....yup, revolutionary stats....

July 14, 2008  10:45 AM ET

A pass catching RB????? Revolutionary.

July 14, 2008  11:25 AM ET

July 14, 2008  12:11 PM ET

I think I should have won the Heisman.

July 14, 2008  12:47 PM ET

No. I should have won it. I revolutionized the position of sitting on my **** and drinking beer while yelling at a TV during the game...I am the ULTIMATE COUCH POTATO.
