Well Hemo here we go

To begin I would like to say I would have picked the USF Bulls, but they were ranked 22 I beleive, there were a few teams that I saw that would have been good picks Alabama, S. Carolina, Arizona, ect. But the team that stuck out to me was Pitt, I would have thought they had a top 25 start for sure, I guess the Coaches poll thought otherwise, last year they were tenth in overall defense and that defense will be returning many starters, they also have a great RB by the name of LeSean McCoy, an underated QB, and a nice O-line. Besides West Virgina, and USF the have an all around easy schedule, though I would love to write more I have to work on a Science fair project,

So good luck Hemo

I'm going to go with Virginia here.

Aside from losing Chris Long to the NFL Draft, the rest of the defense for the Cavaliers is remarkably intact, from returning all four linebackers of the 3-4 defense to a secondary that has four members who received significant playing time this past season.

On the other side of the ball, the offense has a very good offensive line which is lead by left tackle Eugene Monroe, just the next in a long line of great Virginia linemen including NFLers Elton Brown and D'Brickashaw Ferguson.

The receiving corps is lead by Kevin Ogletree, a player who is the go-to guy in the passing game.

The running backs, Mikell Simpson and Cedric Peerman are great rushers and receivers from the backfield and are versatile, causing problems for opposing defenses.

At quarterback, former five-star recruit Peter Lalich looks to take the reins of an offense that promises to open up the passing game more to use Lalich's tremendous arm to its advantage.

The schedule, after the first week test against USC, is remarkably easy until you get well into the ACC schedule, allowing the Cavaliers to develop lots of chemistry and rhythm before they meet their toughest ACC foes.

After the initial loss to USC (which isn't so certain now that they're without a proven leader anywhere on offense), the next five games for the Cavaliers are relative cakewalks. Their schedule is much easier than Pitt's, at least to begin with. Pitt's got to go TO South Florida, TO Notre Dame (which may not seem like much, but Notre Dame Stadium provides a pretty good home field advantage), and TO Connecticut.

Pitt's coach Dave Wannstedt has yet to achieve a winning season at the helm of the Panthers, whilst Virginia coach Al Groh, along with being the two time ACC Coach of the Year and the reigning holder of that title, has six winning seasons.

When you said underrated QB, did you mean a QB who had a 67 QB Rating? How about 8 TDs to 13 INTs? Pat Bostick's not that good, buddy. McCoy is one man, he's not the team.

Giving some love to a Jet, a first for hemo.............anyway i would have taken cincy or uconn

August 11, 2008  10:58 PM ET

S. Carolina I think will do better than both teams listed here

August 11, 2008  11:34 PM ET

Coming from a partial U-M fan, MSU is major starting to scare me. Michigan State could win 8-9 games

August 12, 2008  12:01 AM ET

They will start good and fall apart again, Detroit. That is how it has been for the last however many years and their team has only dropped off at the receiving position. Their running game only gets them so far.

Interesting that neither of your teams finished in the top 30 in voting for the coaches poll. Pitt is 33rd and UVA was 38th.

August 12, 2008  12:25 AM ET

I'll be honest; I hate the Pittsburgh pick. Pittsburgh is one of the most inconsistent, unreliable teams out there. I just cannot figure out why everyone is so hyped up about Pittsburgh football.

The Virginia pick probably isnt the best one either, as they return only 11 total starters and are likely to start the first 3 games of their season 1-2 and finish the final 3 games 0-3.

I'll wait for more arguments before voting.

DWS, you say these awful things about Pitt, yet your pic is of Dan Marino. What's going on?

I am a Dan Marino/Miami Dolphins fan. I only say awful things about Pitt because they seem to be so glorified yet have provided so little in ways of success.

August 12, 2008  02:10 AM ET

pitt will do good but wont beat west virginia

August 12, 2008  07:50 AM ET

ill do this later after football practice, so it may be a while

August 12, 2008  08:28 AM ET

I am assuming you are using the coaches poll since thats the only poll that is currently out. In that case, Alabama, South Carolina, Florida State, and Rutgers would all be better picks then Pitt and Virginia.

August 12, 2008  09:26 AM ET

MSU!!!! GO GREEN GO WHITE!!!!!!!!!!!

August 12, 2008  01:11 PM ET

there's a lot of teams that could be sleepers, so it's hard to pick the best. I'm leaning towards the USF pick, but I'll wait for more arguements.

August 12, 2008  01:12 PM ET

whoops, my bad. "would have pick USF."
we'll see though.

August 12, 2008  04:15 PM ET

USF's in the poll if I recall.

I offered a draw, no time 2 finish
