Will an SEC team win the national championship for the third year in a row?

I say yes.

This conference has four teams ranked in the top 10 to start the season-LSU, Georgia, Florida, and Auburn. Not a single one of them doesnt have at least an outside shot at the title.

This has happened as recently as 1978-80, when Alabama won it back to back followed by the 1980 Georgia Bulldogs.

The SEC has already won 3 of the last 5 national championships, and only 13-0 Auburn in 2004 losing in the title game kept it from being 4 out of the last five titles going the SEC's way.

Does anybody really believe its going to turn out any better for Ohio State this year than in previous years? There is no track record to indicate the Big Ten schedule of late is proper preparation for winning a title game against an opponent from a much stronger conference.

Anybody think this is Oklahoma's year to win it all? Me neither.

Hey West Coast fans, I know you all have USC penciled in as National Champs with a new QB, but most of the rest of the country doesnt.

Missouri will be a nice story again this year, but winning it all? No.

If anyone says West Virginia I will at least laugh half to death.

Lets keep it real and give Clemson an ACC title at best.

The SEC has 4 teams ranked in the top 10 to start the season? I guess I missed that. As far as I know, the official AP top 25 hasn't been released yet, and the Coaches' Poll has 3 SEC teams in the top 10 (the same amount as the Big 12.)

Yes, the SEC has won 3 National Championships in a row before. What in the world does that have to do with the 2008 college football season?

Auburn lost the 2004 National Championship Game? I must have missed that one as well. How can anyone take your opinion seriously if you can't even remember who played for the National Championship 3 years ago; at least be intelligent enough to double check your information.

Yes, actually some people including me do think that this season could turn out better for the Ohio State Buckeyes. They return 10 offensive starters and 9 defensive starters. They've got a great QB and a definite Heisman candidate in Beanie Wells not to mention one of the best defenses in the nation.

Of the SEC teams you named "in the top 10," you said not a one of them doesn't have at least an outside shot. Are you saying Ohio State, Oklahoma, USC, Missouri, West Virginia, Clemson, and others have no shot at all?

http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/football/ncaa/polls/ap/

I didnt know this list was confidential.

I count Georgia, Florida, LSU, and Auburn as SEC teams in the top 10, dont you?

But I digress....

If something has happened before, there is a precedent. Its much easier to argue on behalf of something that has happened before, yes? Unless ur one of those people that believe history never repeats itself, no?

5 teams finished 2004 undefeated, a record in the BCS era. Auburn was 1 of those @ 13-0. Their bowl game was just as much for the championship as USC & Ohio State as it all came down to the voters after all bowl games were finished. What part of that dont u understand?

Is it just me or did u miss the 2006 season? OSU goes 12-0 then gets annihilated 41-14 in the Championship game. OSU's regualr season's mean nothing because the Big Ten is as soft as an old lady's bum.

Once again in 2007 OSU dominated regular season play @ 11-1 only to turn around & prove once again this team is a defensive fraud when it plays quality teams, losing 38-24.

It is most likely that a team from SEC will win it all because they are the most regular season tested.

Nice try, but the AP poll hadn't been released at the time of your first argument. It was, in fact, released at noon on Saturday.

Once again, why would any of us trust your opinion about college football when you still can't seem to wrap your brain around the 2004 college football season. After winning their bowl game versus Oklahoma State, Ohio State finished the 2004 season 8-4. How is it again that they played USC in the national championship? It was, in fact, my Oklahoma Sooners that got smashed by the Trojans 55-19. Auburn's game didn't have one ounce of national title implications because prior to the BCS Championship Game, Oklahoma and USC were 1,2 in the AP and BCS polls. Both polls would obviously declare the winner of that game the national champion regardless of the outcome of the Auburn game.

How do you figure that the SEC is the most "regular season tested?" Because they beat an overrated OSU team 2 years in a row? The SEC plays NO ONE worth mentioning out of conference until their bowl games. The SEC is strong but definitely not a lock to provide a champion.

You have ZERO knowledge of college football. How is anyone supposed to trust your judgement?

Do u need Associated Press to blow ur nose too? Most of us in the know regarding NCAA football dont need to wait until the last second to figure out who the top 10 teams in the country r as these type of rankings have been up for weeks, & in virtually all of them, just like the AP, SEC had 4 teams in the top 10, so quit trying to be all official & just get real: I was right.

U keep going back to the 2004 National Championship game but this has nothing to do w/ the SEC repeating and everything to do with u trying to distract voters with how ur arguments dont cut it when it comes to the TITLE of this TD & not some tangent.

Auburn was 13-0 in 2004. Had both USC-Oklahoma played a sucky game where somebody ended up winning by 3 in a snoozefest, its conceivalbe Auburn could have been voted in as National Champs. Their bowl game was just as much for all the marbles as Oklahoma-USC. You r making this whole throwdown about me mistyping OSU instead of Oklahoma, but the TD has nothing to do with this.

The SEC doesnt need to have a stacked OUT OF CONFERENCE schedule because in-conference their's is second to none in strength and nation's best.

SEC not a lock but most likely

Every year the SEC is a round robin conference. Everyone suffers at least one loss to another conference opponent. This year will surely be no different as Auburn faces off against LSU and Georgia, Florida faces off against LSU and Georgia, Georgia faces off against LSU, Auburn, and Florida, and LSU faces off against Florida, Georgia, and Auburn.

Last season was definitely a rarity by having a 2-loss team and a 1-loss team in the BCS National Championship. More often than not, at least one of the Championship-selected teams is undefeated. A 1 or 2 loss SEC team in 2008 will have a tough time getting into the Title Game simply because there are so many teams that have a much better shot at escaping the season unscathed. The winner of the USC-OSU game is a lock for an undefeated season and a BCS National Championship berth in my mind. Clemson, Oklahoma, and West Virginia all have great chances of cruising through their weak non-conference schedules and slipping through their conference play without suffering a loss. The SEC teams have a much tougher road, and it isn't unreasonable to think that the SEC may not even be represented in Dolphin Stadium on January 8th.

Smartest College Football Fan? I'm flattered. While I don't know if I'm the smartest (there are quite a few others that know their college football), I can guarantee that I know it better than Cassidy.

How exactly did Auburn lose in 04 when they had an undefeated season? I do remember Oklahoma getting the arse handed to them though by USC like 55-19 i think the score was or something like that anyway. While Auburn beat VA Tech in the Sugar Bowl.

Is "DES" one or your nicknames, Cat? Because you just described yourself to a tee and nobody involved in this TD is named DES.

Hah...Cass lost her last TD because he thought it was an easy win that didn't need help until realizing at the last minute it, indeed, DID need help. The flurry of last minute votes from still more users nobody in the TD forum has ever heard of just wasn't enough. Shame.

Geez..is there another person out there where I could use the words "her" and "he" as descriptors with only 3 words in between and nobody would even question it??

"and only 13-0 Auburn in 2004 losing in the title game kept it from being 4 out of the last five titles going the SEC's way."

The Auburn Tigers were not in a BCS Bowl game in 2004. They were in the 2005 Sugar Bowl and won with a record of 12-0. In 2004 the Oklahoma Sooners lost to LSU in the National Championship game 21-14.
