They can play in the clutch.
Tampa will not make the playoffs,
Yanks have 6 each remaining against the Sox and Tampa.
Minnesota will choke as usual and cry about small market economics.

"They can play in the clutch."

As a Yankee fan, I had to laugh at that. They haven't been able to win in the clutch since 2000. Ask the D-Backs, Angels, Tigers, Indians, and especially the Red Sox. You think the Yanks are going to make the playoffs with their 2 best pitchers out and a line-up that can't hit in the clutch for their lives?

Even as a Yanks fan, while I'm not counting them out of the playoffs, right now it doesn't appear they're ready for October baseball this year. And the WS? Forget it. The Red Sox are still one of the most complete teams in baseball and the Rays are for real. They lose their 2 best hitters and their closer yet still beat the Angels. And Minnesota has a point. lol

Love how you made no statistical points or noteworthy statements whatsoever. Just "This is gonna happen because I said so!"

Not gonna back anything up? Nothing?

They wont even make the playoffs

August 20, 2008  01:18 PM ET

^ agreed

August 20, 2008  01:23 PM ET

they might actually finish behind the jays in the division....

Even hank has all but thrown in the towel. I am a Sox fan and you had better come to the same realization that I had to, The Rays are for real and they are not going away, in fact, I would bet they win the East. Let's look at it mathmatically,

The Yanks are 11 games back with 37 to go.
To get to 95 wins (the bare minimum to win the East or WC) The Yanks must win 29 of 37 games.
That equates to a .783 winning percentage. NOT GONNA HAPPEN!

In contrast, the Rays need only win 18 games to get to 95, that is less than .500 baseball.

Even Boston need only play about .500 baseball to get to 95.

I am a huge Yankee fan, let me tell you, the "clutch" days retired with O'Neill, Bernie, and Tino. :(

August 20, 2008  01:41 PM ET

hahahaha Yankees suck, even coletrain said it.

August 20, 2008  01:42 PM ET

As a Yankee fan I dont' even think they're in the hunt for the playoffs in a couple of weeks.

Lots of money off the books once the season ends, so Texeira, CC start getting fit for your Yankee Pinstripes now.

I love the Bankees, but they aren't making the playoffs

August 20, 2008  02:45 PM ET

It figures!
The Evil Emperor likes the Evil Empire! LOL

Just like you said Rich, the Yankess are gearing up to purchase another run at the World Series. They weren't able to do it with home grown talent so they will use someone elses! LOL

August 20, 2008  03:32 PM ET

no way they are making the playoffs

you can't make the playoffs if you can't win a game!!!

August 20, 2008  03:33 PM ET

"Minnesota will choke as usual and cry about small market economics"

Haha-wait. How many division titles have the Twins won in the last 6 years? 4. How many times were the supposed to win the division? Once? Wait, let me get this straight, so the Twins were supposed to win the division once, but they won it four times? OH! Now I see how they choked!

Wow. I'm embarrassed that a fellow Chicagoan put up THAT as an argument. No stats, no reasons to say why he feels that way. He just threw up garbage.

August 20, 2008  04:27 PM ET

Oh, wow. I swear I didn't copy your last statement, Coletrain. I didn't even see it until I posted my first comment.

1st round KO

August 20, 2008  04:52 PM ET

Knew this would be a slaughter

August 20, 2008  05:25 PM ET

Tha Yankess are in the running for Tavares.

August 20, 2008  06:47 PM ET

The Yanks will be lucky to not finish in 4th in the AL East

August 20, 2008  06:48 PM ET

Coletrain you forgot about the Marlins, add them to that list of teams

August 21, 2008  08:46 PM ET

Yeah, them too.
