MUST BE ABLE TO FINISH in the next 30 minutes.......

Yes

They risk nothing if they sign him to an incentive laden contract and have him sit behind Fisher and Farmar......

Let him heal and maybe see what he can do after the All Star break......

No they shouldnt.

The Lakers have Vujacic and Farmarcoming off the bench as back up guards, and recenlty signed draft pick Sun Yue will be joining the team as the 3rd string Point guard.

The money should be going to a backup center, not a PG who has serious knee problems.

The Lakers dont need bench scoring and he is only going to take minutes away from Farmar and Vujacic which will slow down their development...

Not a good move to sign a player he wont even be able to play until after the All Star break. Backup PG is not a need, backup C is.

That money needs to go to Dikembe Mutombo, Jamaal Magloire, or Zo.

Not a good move to sign Livingston. The Lakers have no need for him.

Vujacic is a SG......

Yue will most likely spend a significant amount of time in NBDL or adjusting to the NBA speed deep on the bench and in garbage time.....

The risk is low

The upside is enormous as he is a 6-7 PG capable of playing multiple positions.......

If he pans out and is able to come back they could then trade Farmar for help elsewhere.......

6-7 Livingston or a 6-1 Farmar????

6-7 PG since he is a pass first player

Agree the Lakers need a backup C but the risk is low on Livingston since he wont command much

Trade Farmar? Thats ridiculous, he is just starting to come into his own and the Lakers like his energy and defense....

There is no need to bring in Livingston, Yue was just signed and is a project player and could be ready for the NBA by the All star break as well if he isnt ready right away...

Yue is the 3rd string PG they dont need to waste the money and bring in Livingston for as an experiment player.

Alonzo Mourning or Dikembe Mutombo would be a huge benefit to the teams toughness and would give the Lakers more playoff experience which is what they lack....

Backup PG is not a need and Livingston may never be the same player ever again...

Livingstons salary could be the difference between geting Zo, Dikembe, or Magloire instead of being stuck with Mihm as the backup C.

They shouldnt make him an offer and save the money for a backup C. PG isnt a need....

Bessides the Lakers already have a project point gurad they dont need another one.

Livingston will sign for a low ball cost, like 250,000 to 500,000 plus incentives.......Zo or Mutombo are getting at least 1.8 mill.......

I think eventually Livingston could play the SF much like Pippen did in Chicago.....Or the Lakers could play him at PG, it gives them flexibility with Odom and his 12 mill contract expiring soon......

Farmar is a solid backup but he may never develop into a starting PG......Just saying Livingston as a 6-7 PG or SF gives the Lakers more flexibility.......The kid wont be 23 until September, it isnt like he is a 30 plus veteran trying to come back.......

I think Shaun will make it back and bottom line is he has more upside than a 6-foot combo guard......Farmar doesnt get carried away like Sasha but he does like to jack it up and score.......

Assuming Yue can develop into a PG, Livingston could play SF with Kobe, Gasol and Bynum in a few years in a big lineup.......

Lakers can sign Shaun and a vet backup C, its very doable.......

Livingston is a stick, he would get posted up on defense and would be a huge liability.

Lakers dont need Livingston, they can have a lineup ofensive lineup with Vujacic at SG and Bryant at SF, or they can go defensive and have Bryant at SG and Ariza at SF....

Yue can develop into a backup for Farmar once Fisher retires. The Lakers like Farmar and have no reason to throw him to the street all of a sudden, the spent a first round pick on him, he could devlop in a 15 PPG, 7 APG point guard with all the talent around him pretty easy.

Farmar doesnt need his confidence to take a beating by bringing in Livingston as the future PG.

Farmar is much better when he plays confident and bringing in Livingston wont help that which will hurt the Lakers short term...

And that is certainly not a good thing...Sign a backup center and be done with the offseason moves...

Signing Livingston will take up a roster spot that could be filled by a veteran who could provide leadership over a 23 yr old kid...

Sign a backup C and be done with the offseason LA.

Yes, oh for sure, LA already loves him, fan favorite.

August 21, 2008  12:30 PM ET

^^ Agreed...

... and how could you not love that 'fro?

August 21, 2008  12:32 PM ET

I think he will end up a 6-7 SF like Pippen not like Magic (comparisons) when he first came into the NBA

He can play PG, SG, SF but I think if he gains 20 pounds he is best at SF

August 21, 2008  12:32 PM ET

Playing a facilitator role rather than a natural PG and Farmar could be a BJ Armstrong type PG

August 21, 2008  12:33 PM ET

Odom inly has like 1 year left on his contract

August 21, 2008  12:39 PM ET

Trevor Ariza would do fine playing SF. He is athletic and defensive minded...

August 21, 2008  12:41 PM ET

Ariza is a career backup, perfect James Posey type player off bench

August 21, 2008  12:42 PM ET

He could easily start....He did before he broke his foot.

August 21, 2008  12:45 PM ET

He was a phantom starter

August 21, 2008  12:45 PM ET

Livingston has proven he can play in NBA, Sun is an unknown

He was just coming into his own, he had never had a chacne to start before...

August 21, 2008  12:57 PM ET

I'm leaning right here. Yes, he is low risk but with that type of injury he's not ready to come back next season. Plus, I wouldn't deal Farmar for someone like Livingston.

That's crazy talk.

Actually I am voting right. Nothing against Livingston but a 3rd point guard is the last thing the Lakers need. Fisher, Farmar and Yue (who will more than likely be on the bench and not the NBDL or China wouldn't have let him out will play).

August 21, 2008  01:01 PM ET

Clarify: I meant to say that I would deal Farmar even if Livingston pans out. Especially with his injury history.

Yue will play. It may not be much but the Chinese Basketball Association would not have released him for Yue to play in the D-League. No way. There has to be an agreement there for Yue to at least be part of the 12 man roster.

NO!!! Knees get better, but they don't get well. If it were not for the miracles of modern medicine, this guys leg would have been AMPUTATED. That's how bad it was. To invest millions of dollars in him at this point would be a huge gamble. If Livingston played a year overseas, he might get a more favorable response before the '09-'10 season.

Vote to Travis

I never really thought about it........ it wouldn't work though. We have Farmar and he is the future. We just don't need him.

August 21, 2008  02:41 PM ET

It makes sense to me to add depth at a bargain price. The move could push Farmar to improve, if it hurts his confidence and effects his game, do you really want a fragile player like that as the future starter?
