There are many great games in the history of College Football, but I think I have the best one in mind.

The year, 1987. The place, Sun Devil Stadium in Tempe, Arizona. The stakes, a National Championship.

Undefeated teams Miami and Penn St. would face off in this game, and the Hurricanes were heavily favored over Joe Paterno and crew to take home the trophy, but every minute the game rolled on, people were beginning to think that maybe Penn St. could win.

To start the 4th quarter, the score tied 7-7, Miami made the first move. With a 38 yard field goal with 11 minutes to go, The Canes were in control.

Though Penn St., fired right back with a touchdown that took a lead of 14-10 with 8 minutes left in the game.

Miami was led by Vinny Testaverde, that year's Heimsan Winner, and everyone knew he could lead them back. The Hurricanes got their final possession with just about 3 minutes left, and Vinny led them to a 1st and goal. After a two incompletions and a sack, the Canes had one last chance on 4th and goal and 18 seconds left to win the NC.

Vinny dropped back, and fired a goalline interception, making the Nittany Lions champions for the second time in 5 years.

The 100th anniversary of college football, 1969. Number one and number two meet in a rivalry game which was of such epic proportions that the PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES was in attendance to give a plaque to the winner of the game. The Reverend Billy Graham was in attendance to give the pregame prayer (back when this was done at more than just NASCAR races).

Texas, led by the legendary Darrell K. Royal.

Arkansas, led by the legendary Frank Broyles.

The last great all-white football game before integration (hey, not condoning it, just setting the scene).

""The Longhorns got off to a sloppy start, losing a fumble on the second play from scrimmage and turning the ball over a total of six times. A 1-yard leap into the endzone by Bill Burnett in the first quarter and a 29-yard touchdown reception by Chuck Dicus in the third quarter put the Hogs up 14-0 with 15:00 to play.

James Street scrambled for a touchdown on the first play of the fourth quarter. Longhorns coach Darrell Royal had decided before the game to go for a two-point conversion after the Longhorn's first touchdown to avoid a tie, and Street dove into the endzone to make it 14-8."" - Wikipedia's play by play... more to come...

Good pick Hemo, but here's why it's not the best.

1. This is just a regular season game, what were the stakes? A spot in the National Championship Game? Penn St. and Miami is one of the reasons college football is so great, an upset in the National Championship is what college football fans live for.

2. Since College Football still wasn't integrated yet in your game, how can you call it the best game ever. Some of the best players probably weren't even playing because they weren't allowed to. Black players opened a new window for college football greatness, and with none of them in this game, I can't call it the greatest game in history.

3. Yes, "I am not a crook" Nixon gave out out a placque to the winner who would be crowned National Champion, but what if they lost their next game. Texas faced off against #9 Notre Dame, easily getting the National Championship then, but if they lost, would this game even be considered a good game because it didn't produce a national champion?

Forfeited Turn

So again, you're telling me, that a regular-season 1 vs. 2 matchup, which we've seen many times before, with only white players was a better game than a 14-10 goalline stand upset with integrated teams? You must be smoking some Pineapple Express Hemo, because that's about as true as Bill Clinton staying loyal to his wife.

This Miami team was one of the best after their embarrasing loss to the not-so-mighty Nittany Lions. They ended up winning 3 national championships in the next 6 years, but Penn St. might've beat one of the best out of all of those Miami teams.

Miami was led by Heisman Winner Vinny Testaverde, All-American defenders Jerome Brown and Bennie Blades, and future NFL WR Michael "can I get another joint" Irvin. They were cocky and arrogant but they were so good, it was ok to act that way. They go into the Fiesta Bowl with an undefeated record, including a win over then #3 Oklahoma, and had outscored opponents 420-136 during the season. They face up against a Penn St. team that had close wins over 3 sub .500 teams and then they lose, with their Heisman winning quaterback throwing a goalline interception to lose.

Talk about "Do you believe in Miracles?"
