Assume LT and AP are the top 2 picks. The format is 1 pt for 10 yards rushing or receiving, 6 pts TD, 1 pt for 25 passing yards, 4 pts for passing TD. This is the standard Yahoo format.
I would take Brian Westbrook.
He is coming off his best year ever, and he may be the best all around running back in the league. With a healthy McNabb, he will get even more receiving yards.
Steven Jackson was a huge bust last year, partly because of injury, but he does not have a good o-line or QB. I will take Westbrook over him every time.
Tom Brady was great last year, but to repeat a career year like that is basically impossible. There are also a lot of good QBs you can get in later rounds (Manning, Romo, etc)
Westbrook is the safest pick.

Brady. You need a solid qb nowadays. Taking a running back is a big gamble. LT's numbers went down last year, AP is injury prone, and anthing goes for those runningbacks. Tom Brady has TWO reliable wr's in WEs Welker who led the LEAGUE in receptions and Randy Moss who had 23 td's last year. (i believe) Tom Brady is your safest choice. Also, Tom doesn't get hurt during the season as much minus his foot injury of late.

This is why I think you should take Westbrook.
1. You NEED a stellar running back to compete. Skip on one here, and you'll end up with a Larry Johnson or Maurice Jones-Drew as your number 1 running back. A reliable back is a must.
2. There are plenty of other good QB options out there. You can build up your running and receiving core in the early rounds and still snag a Anderson, Garrard, or McNabb later. Plus, there are breakout QBs every year that you can pick up. (Romo 2 years ago, Anderson and Garrard last year.)
If you pick a dual-threat running back like Brian Westbrook, there is very little risk at all.

I'm struggling more with #4, given that's where I landed. The RB pool is the shallowest it's been in years, in my opinion, so especially if LT, AP and Westbrook are gone, I don't know if I take Addai or Gore over Brady.

I think that fantasy is changing gradually. I think the RB's being the top might change in a couple of years. Of course take a runningback when he is tearing the league up but a QB that is not injury prone and good is hard to pass. examples: Tom Brady and Peyton Manning

Taking back to back running back is not the best way to go anymore. To many guys are sharing carries and getting hurt. On average the guys being drafted in the 5th round are just as good as the backs taken in the second round. I think going for a consistent WR is better idea after the top backs are gone.
QBs I still don't go after early because the difference between the top QBs and the 5-8 guys is not that big. Brady will not have another year like last year. His previous high for TDs was 28. Manning was under 30 the year after he threw 49.
If you take AP in the second pick than you just made a mistake. Westbrook is the better and more consistent back. AP will have 2-4 bad games and miss 2-4 as well. That is 4-8 games he is useless to you.

I would take Moss before I draft Brady.

You can get guys like Ben Roethlisberger or Matt Hasselbeck in rounds 4-8. These guys are pretty close to Brady in talent.
