Guru NFL Semi-Finals: Which NFC team that missed the playoffs is most likely to play in January this year?

Philadelphia Eagles(finished 8-8 in 2007)

1 of the biggest players in offseason deals: Asante Samuel(helps with their biggest weakness-forcing turnovers[had NFL low 19 last year]), as Asante had 16 INTs the last 2 yrs. Causing turnovers could have been huge for Philly last year, as 5 of their 8 losses were by 4 points or less. Coupled with Lito Sheppard on the other side, Philly has 1 of the most formidable set of CBs in the league.

All the successful core players have returned to the Eagles from 2007, a team that won its last 3 games, including a win over the Cowboys in week 15. McNabb proved he can stay healthy following knee surgery the previous year. Westbrook led the entire NFL in yds from scrimmage.

The Eagles got progressively better against the run from 2006 to 2007.

Coach Andy Reid knows how to win(88-56 in eight seasons).

OFFENSIVE TEAM RANKS: 8th rushing, 10th passing, 17th scoring

That is tremendous balance for a team that just missed the playoffs.

DEFENSIVE TEAM RANKS: 7th rushing, 18th passing, 9th scoring

Not bad considering they have to play 6 games against the tough NFC East.

Philly more likely vs. Saints or Cardinals or Vikings.


It has to be the New Orleans Saints.

Let's face it, they have zero competition.

The Falcons are a mess.

The Panthers won't get it done.

The Buccaneers will suffer from the maddness of Jon Gruden and his qb carousel.

And if they don't win the division, which I don't see them losing, they most surely will win the wild card.

They added one of the best TE's in the game, and kept both Bush and Duece. So the offence will be even better than last year.

The NFC East is just too competitive this year for the Eagles to make the playoffs. They have 2 games against three teams that could very well make the playoffs also.

The Eagles will suffer from their very tough division schedule.


Well lets c what we know re: Saints going into this yr:

Same QB, RB-Bush, & same coach that presided over last yr's 7-9 campaign. The excuse? Well we lost Duece McAllister in week 3! Yeah, well you were 0-2 @ the time & looking awful. Now this guy who is coming back from two surgically repaired knees(Duece) is your division-winning savior?

The Saints pass defense is beyond awful. They finished 30th out of 32 teams in stopping the pass! In total defense they were 26th, and they do not win the turnover ratio with this bad defense(-7), so their awful D is on the field more than it can afford to b.

Now you bring in who will soon to become known as "The Mouth of the South" in Jeremy Shockey to screw up any offensive rapport that developed in the locker room with the off. players?

The Tampa Bay Bucs finished 9-7 last year. What have they done to take steps backwards from last season and let the Saints fly by them?

The Bucs played winning football under Gruden in '07 due to a +15 turnover ratio & outscoring opponents by +64. They have the same easy schedule in this div. as the Saints. Everyone knows where Tampa-2 D was named after, right?

Eagles take Skins playoff spot.


You honestly are telling me that adding Asante Samuel to an already stacked defense is going to get them into the playoffs?

The Eagles main weakness is always their wide receivers and passing game, well last time I checked they didnt add any wide receivers and Donovan McNabb is still the QB in Philly.

The Saints just have a way easier schedule than the Eagles. I am fairly sure I would want 2 games each against the Bucs, Falcons, and Panthers than against the Cowboys, Giants, and Skins.

Deuce McAllister is a integral part of their offence and when they lost him you could see they were not the same team. He is their leader and having him back is a big gain for the Saints.

Also Shockey plays hard and has earned the respect of every player in the league. You want him on your team and I am very dissapointed that my Giants traded him.

The Offence will win them enough games to give them the division.
