Contrary to FN belief NMI is not the single greatest entity in sports persuasion.

ESPN clearly:

Elects the Heisman winner: They hype the guy until it is won. Even if his team is a 4 game loser.

"Computes" the BCS: Lets face it there is really no formula.

Selects the National Championship Game's participants: If they hadnt elected LSU would they have really made it back with the 2 losses? Dont get me wrong they clearly deserved it;however, that was simply coincidence.

Does all the NCAABBall Rankings up to the Tourney: Was Tennessee really the 2nd best team when they played Memphis @ 8pm on ESPN?

Simply put ESPN is now contracted for 15 years of dominance with the SEC. Everyone else may as well quit.

You're right, Frank. Hey, I know...maybe Sasquatch works for ESPN and casts a Heisman vote. That's gotta be the only way to explain how one of college football's most dynamic players won the award.

Give the propaganda a rest, will ya?

I just heard Kirk Herbstreit hyping Missouri's Chase Daniels for the Heisman, over SEC Glory Dog Tim Tebow. Doesn't Herbstreit have a prominent position in ESPN's college football coverage?

You are confusing us more, though, if LSU "clearly deserved" the appearance in the BCS Championship Game, what are you complaining about? They certainly seemed to back up their selection to the game considering how well they played.

The formula you claim ESPN just makes up actually has nothing to do with ESPN. It backed out of sponsorship of the coach's poll because it did not receive full disclosure on who voted for who.

As for hoops...Tennessee had two losses before that game against Memphis, and Duke and Kansas (No. 2 and 3) lost the week before Memphis met the Vols. Had the Devils and the Jayhawks won, MU/UT would have been 1 vs. 4. Are you still claiming cohearsion? Or did ESPN rig Wake over Duke and Texas over KU too?

Maybe it was Sasquatch...

Couple of points, this does not start until next season so they are free to promote now who they please. I am stating they have time and time again promoted the "selling" players such as Tebow. Stats dont equal BEST.

For years now ESPN has not been in the Sports and News business. They are in the creation of their own financial interest business. They create as opposed to cover such as Xgames, eating contests, and World series of poker. They made these for financial gain not to cover a "sport".

ESPN openly mocked the AFL before they had the rights now its a great league we should pay attention to.

To ESPN Nascar did not exist until the ratings and sponsorship $ eclipsed that of most anything. Now they cover it. They have a 30 minute broadcast to cover racing news.

The point is that ESPN is no longer a News company. They are a broadcasting company in the business of creating the news and will promote their own interest. Now that they are in toe with the SEC the love for guys like Troy Smith and Charles Woodson is GONE. You can guarantee if Peyton and Woodson had played in 2009 hed have gotten that heisman.

Psst...got a little secret, Frank...keep this quiet...ESPN exists to make money.

Can you believe it? They do all kinds of crazy things for the sake of profit, like trying to promote non-Big 3 sports, like NASCAR, poker and tennis.

Lemme throw this out there...if you don't like it, throw it right back...maybe their decision to make money isn't a bad thing. Maybe, and I'm just spit-balling here, they want to provide a product for fans of many sports, not just three.

Color me crazy, but I don't think a non-profit sports network would last long.

Of COURSE they cover NASCAR because there's hundreds of millions of dollars invested in it! Millions of NASCAR fans like the fact ESPN broadcasts races. It's not like ESPN is trying to hide their desire to turn a profit. People follow it religiously, why is it wrong for them to give racing fans what they want?

Let's not be so naive.

No one was at Woodson or Manning's level last year. Maybe history will show Tebow won in a weak field, who knows? But don't act as if ESPN gives a rat's behind if Tebow wins a Heisman. The fans will still watch the game, and the fact ESPN reaches out to other markets doesn't hurt anything.

If 200,000 labs or muts bite a child this year its never seen or heard. If 1 pitbull does it its national news. Why is this you say? "Lab attacks child", "Pitbull attacks child" Which of the previous statements draws the viewers?

ESPN functions under the same process. They create the news and the story that generates attention which generates viewers. Now they are actually in the business of the "sports themselves" as opposed to "broadcasting the sports".

Meaning the "CREATED NEWS" is really "SPECIAL INTEREST NEWS". Guess what, special interest just became the SEC.

70% of the people who sign into this site only know what ESPN tells them. These opinions derived from watching ESPN as opposed to actually watching the GAME show up in most every TD. So that 70% is going to ONLY get SEC from 2009 forward.

Point is that everyone else may as well go home. If you want a Heisman or a National Championship you got 1 choice when the recruiters come knocking, THE SEC

This is where we get the idea that VY can actually pay QB. ESPN. Why? Because VY SELLS RATINGS

Propaganda fans, you have a new leader. Completely baseless facts (I'd love to see where you came up with that BS 70 percent statistic. A complete crock, but certainly self-serving).

Have you been to the South? Do you honestly think ESPN creates the opinions of football fans down there? Do you think a fifth-generation Longhorns fan will stop rooting for the team because ESPN will have an SEC-based show each week?

C'mon now...

ESPN is not creating news, the athletes are. They may foster opinions, but that's exactly what you and I are doing right now.

You mentioned Vince Young. He makes news, ESPN wants to provide viewers access to Vince Young because people want to see him. Or used to want to see him.

ESPN IS NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR VINCE YOUNG BEING IN THE NFL.

If Vince Young succeeds one MNF game, the ratings were likely just as high as if he didn't succeed that night. The anticipation and the match-up before the game are the keys.

Ratings aren't sold, you clearly don't understand this subject. ESPN puts a product out for people to watch, it's up to them whether they watch it or not. If they don't, it gets cancelled. It's a shame you don't understand that.

So...the SEC is a wholly-owned subsidiary of the Disney Corporation? Maybe we'll start seeing rides installed at the stadiums.

What do you mean Frank that NMI isn't the greatest entity in sports persuasion? Didn't you receive the super secret How NMI Runs the World handbook once you got into NMI? You should have received it the following day - a guy in a trenchcoat should have approached your house, did the shave and a haircut knock and said, the crow flies at midnight...did he not arrive?

August 26, 2008  10:29 AM ET

it fully explains how we run FN, control the Olympics, control ESPN, ensure Notre Dame is guaranteed a bowl bid this season....and on and on...

no dogs can touch a NMI member, we control all the animals of the world as well...

August 26, 2008  10:31 AM ET

maybe one of your neighbors thought it was someone from the gov't and they shot him...

August 26, 2008  10:31 AM ET

just before this gets too out of hand, the point of the td is this:

ESPN is no longer in the sports news business, its in the business of sports broadcasting which means its "news" is in the business of reporting what it broadcasts

He might have gotten lost. After all, you do need to take a raft down this river to get to Frank's trailer. Maybe the kid playing the banjo spooked him.

On no! They got Porkins? No wonder he hasn't been on lately.

August 26, 2008  10:34 AM ET

ESPN used to be great....back when it would show Austrailian Rules Football, Rugby and sportscenter that actually gave you scores and highlights that involved more than HRs or dunks.

Just like MTV back when it showed videos....now, they have gotten too full of themselves and have deviated from what made them great TV stations to begin with....pandering to the lowest IQ members amongst us.

August 26, 2008  10:35 AM ET

So why isn't Frank happy, then?

August 26, 2008  10:36 AM ET

and I do agree, that intentional or not, ESPN does control more of the sports world than people realize...how much of what we consider great is determined by what ESPN says or shows?

August 26, 2008  10:36 AM ET

By the way- Notre Dame getting the Bowl Bid is MY Job

August 26, 2008  10:36 AM ET

SEC already officially owns the NCAA. The football dominance is clear. It is the better conference, and thats how they SHOULD be portrayed. Tebow was the BEST player last year, no matter how many losses the gators had.
