Steven Jackson is holding out with the Rams and threatening to sit out the season......

Well the Bengals could use a stud like Jackson in their backfield with Palmer......Call up the Rams and see if they can get a sign and trade done......

Disagree????

Throwdown

This sounds like a great plan, in theory...

However...

The Bengals NEED to do do many, many things before they can consistently contend in the stacked AFC.

There are several reasons as to why the Bengals have more pressing needs than Steven Jackson.

1) The offense is NOT their issue. They don't NEED to upgrade their offense to contend. The NEED to look at defensive solutions.

2) The backfield has been a bright spot in camp this year - so much so that they are now shopping Rudi for a legitimate wide receiver.

3) Chris Perry is healthy and Kenny Watson has emerged as a solid back last year during Rudi's injury plagued season.

4) Rudi Johnson is still a Bengal and has vowed to be ready for week 1 vs Baltimore.

Yes - Steven Jackson is a man beast, but the Bengals have many more pressing NEEDS. He would simply be a luxary at this point, not a NEED.

Good luck Sir

1-The running game was 24th in the NFL with 97 ypg last season.......

2-Pre Season means squat.......

3-Kenny Watson is 30 and a career backup=3rd down back and Chris Perry is his heir apparent......

4-Rudi averaged 2.9ypc

A consistent running game will mean ball control and keep the defense off the field......

Here is a shocker, trade Chad to St Louis for Jackson.......The Rams get a No.1 WR and the Bengals get a workhorse RB......

The Bengals have TJ to replace Chad and rookie WR's Jerome Simpson and Andre Caldwell to go along with recently signed Chris Henry.......

Chris Henry is suspended for the first 4 games.

Andre Caldwell is out for the year.

TJ is suffring a hamstring injury and has yet to play a down in the preseason.

If we traded Chad than we would have no decent wideouts left! (unless TJ comes back from injury)

Why do you think they are shopping Rudi for a wideout?

Your information is skewed.

Here is the problem with these types of TD's - it just depends on peoples interpretation of the word NEED.

The Bengals NEED their fans to go on strike and force Mike Brown out of office.

The Bengals NEED help at WR.

The Bengals NEED to apply pressure to the quarterback.

The Bengals NEED to stop the run.

The Bengals NEED to win the turnover battles.

The Bengals have Perry, Watson, De De and Rudi is starting this Saturday. Why would they NEED a Steven Jackson before all these other glaring NEEDS.

BTW - The running game was so morose last year due to key injuries on the offensive line. Not because we didnt have Steven Jackson...

Hey these are fun even if few share my particular vision of trying to fix problems for teams.....Its what I do.....

Rudi is DONE......Backs with injured OL's can still post better than 2.9ypc=abysmal.......Watson and Perry are best suited as 3rd down backs.....Chris Perry is an injury prone 3rd down back, he is expendable......Watson is a solid backup.......He is 30, so he may not be the future as he is older than Rudi.......Dorsey might be a good 3rd stringer or practice team player but he excelled in limited touches, lets see him duplicate it with more carries, doubtful.......21 carries isnt a lot......And he had a 45 yard run that helped boost his average considerably......

Pat Sims will be huge presence at DT and help shore up the run defense.....By providing depth to back up John Thornton and Domata Peko......DE Robert Geathers and Antwan Odom will help increase the pressure opposing QB's feel to help the pass defense......

The Bengals can survive without Henry for 4 games, they signed a nice TE in Ben Utecht to combine with Reggie Kelly and give them nice duo at that position.......

THE BENGALS NEED TO PRAY TO ALLAH to remove the curse on this franchise......

"THE BENGALS NEED TO PRAY TO ALLAH to remove the curse on this franchise...... "

DJ - I know we have not agreed on many things throughout the past few years, but this is a statement I finally agree with!

Moving forward...

Pat Sims is a rookie. He may be huge someday, but it's too early to tell. Antwan Odem is injured. He hasnt played a single snap as a Bengal! geathers is a beast though.

Kenny proved to be more than just a serviceable 3rd down back last year. Perry is healthy and running like his feet are on fire.

The problem is that Steven Jackson could help almost any team with the few exceptions being Westbrooks Eagles and LT's Chargers.

But - The Bengals have so many more NEEDS than their running game. Most of them being on the defensive side of the ball.

Rudi had one bad year due to injuries. Don't quickly forget that he had 4 seasons in a row of over 1300 yards. With Rudi playing this week and the presence of a healthy Perry and a serviceable Watson the Bengals dont NEED Jackson.

It looks like they are going to NEED a miracle if they keep getting blasted with injuries to the WR position!

had fun DJ - its currently tied so good luck!

Steven Jackson signed a 6-year 44 million dollar contract 5 days ago. He's a Ram.

August 26, 2008  09:54 AM ET

Can Steven Jackson play defense? Because if not, he won't really help that much.

August 26, 2008  09:54 AM ET

Jackson has signed an extension and reported, Dj.

Don't sully DJ's fantasies with reality. He hates reality.

The Bengals should sign Tomlinson, too. What? He's under contract? So what?

August 26, 2008  10:42 AM ET

The fact ramains that the Bungles need defense way more than they need offense.

Rudi Johnson is washed up

August 26, 2008  11:06 AM ET

Rudi is not washed up. There's this little thing called injuries, and Johnson had one. Let'sot forget the 3 straight 1300 yard seasons to quickly.

August 26, 2008  11:07 AM ET

Steven Jackson is washed up. COUNT IT!

August 26, 2008  11:07 AM ET

The Bengals need Defense above all else.

August 26, 2008  11:13 AM ET

You think its that easy--trade Johnson for Jackson? Not even close.

How can ANYONE be actually voting in this TD? Neither guy knew that Jackson signed his contract and reported for duty last week. If they don't know basic sports info, how can you vote in their sports TD?

August 26, 2008  12:21 PM ET

Dj - Did you take all of last week off? Steven signed and now is in camp. He even was on the sideline of last weekend's preseason game. Two major problems with this trade:
1. The Rams have no RB behind Jackson who could go the entire season so the trade would be self-defeating and detrimental.
2. The Rams don't need another number 1 WR. We have Holt and paid far too much for Bennett and the rookie we took this year.
Vote right unless you find some way to climb out of this.

August 26, 2008  12:52 PM ET

Yeah, Jackson signed, good for my FFB team

August 26, 2008  05:30 PM ET

Dont have a TV right now C-note, wasnt on here since Thursday

August 26, 2008  05:35 PM ET

Travis Minor and Antonio Pittman can combine for 95 yards a game (which is what the Rams averaged last year=25th in NFL)

Bulger would have Chad, Holt and Bennett to be throwing to.......

I knew, but I still was looking forward to a spirited debate. Dont rush to judge. This TD is bigger than Steven Jackson, its about a need at running back over all other needs. Just my opinion.
