Lightening Ryan Grant's workload???

Buy

Disagree???

Lets rock

Why would you want to lighten his workload?

Grant Played in 15 games last season and stared 7. In that time frame he only had 188 carries and averaged 12.5 carries per game. He had a whoping 5.1 per carry to boot......Now I know he only started 7 games, so the 12.5 per game might be a little off.

But If I had a RB that could get me 5.1 per carry, the last thing I would do is lighten his workload. I would ride that RB all the way till his wheels fall off.

Not to mention you have an UNPROVEN QB in Rodgers....Im not saying he sucks, Im not saying he's great...Just unproven.

In the real world DJ, there is absolutley NO WAY on earth that the Pack can lighten his workload

Lets say Rodgers does turn out to be a dud......The Packers D and rushing game is good enough to win them a few games all by themselves. Why would you want to take wins away from your team when you have a clear starting caliber RB on your roster?

Good luck Goodell, always fun

http://www.fannation.com/truth_and_rumors/view/63612

Meaning they dont want Grant to be the next Larry Johnson, Goody

They might want Grant to get 18-20 carries but have another back get 8-10 carries as most of the NFL is going with a nice duo at the RB position......

I guarantee if you give Grant 18-20 carries he wont be averaging 5.1ypc since he isnt the lightning quick back some are......He would be a solid 4.5ypc rusher with more carries.......

Look at Joseph Addai, he averaged 4.6ypc first half of the season and 3.4ypc 2nd half of the season because they didnt have a reliable 2nd string backup......He didnt have a 100 yard game the last 8 games of the season.......

"Meaning they dont want Grant to be the next Larry Johnson, Goody

Ok....Considering Grant averaged 12.5 carries, his work load would have to increase by almost 40% to reach the 18-20 carry mark. I totally agree that he shouldnt be used to the effect that LJ does, but if you limit a guys carries....You also limit the success of the team

If winning games takes Grant getting 18-20 carries per game, then they should do it

If winning games takes Grant 25-28 carries per game, then they should do it. The Packers are not in the NFL to be a good team in a lousy division. Im pretty sure they have the full intention of making and winning the SB, just like every other team in the NFL

When your RB breaks the 20 carry mark in a game, that speaks volumes for all the in game stats. Like ball control.....3rd down conversions.....Your RB doest get 20 carries per game unless you convert on 3rd. YOu also dont win games unless you convert on 3rd down

But anyways...For the sake of the TD: If Grant gets 18-20 carries per, thats a increease

So you think they should replicate what Tomlin did with Parker????

Run him till his wheels fall off????

Not a smart move at all

"If winning games takes Grant 25-28 carries per game, then they should do it. The Packers are not in the NFL to be a good team in a lousy division. Im pretty sure they have the full intention of making and winning the SB, just like every other team in the NFL."

Come on Goody your Bills have a guy like Lynch and you know the value of having 2 backs to share the load......

Larry Johnson might well be done because he has been run into the ground, 336 carries and 416......What happened the season after those 416 carries????

158 for 559 yards and a 3.5 avg

McCarthy knows life expectancy of a RB and isnt trying to do that

"So you think they should replicate what Tomlin did with Parker???? "

Parker is a completely different kind of back than Grant. Parker is a physical, power back that only cuts when he has to. Grant is more of an elusive back, as opposed to a power back. Grant doesnt look for contact like Parker does

"Come on Goody your Bills have a guy like Lynch and you know the value of having 2 backs to share the load"

Your right, I do. But the Bills also have a very formidable back up in Fred Jackson who averaged 5.2 YPC and 8.6 per REC.

If you look at Brandon Jackson's numbers, they are 3.6 per carry and 8.1 per REC

Those number dont spell production from Brandon Jackson, so what in the world would the Pack be thinking to get him more carries? Brandon Jackson is not the back up that Fred Jackson is......I dont expect the Packers to run him into the ground like the Chiefs did. The chiefs offense was clearly lacking any kind of passing threat outside of Tony G. On the other hand, there are 3-4 good WR's in GB. Grant should get 20 carries per game, which comes out to 320 touches. Now, thats almost 100 less touches than LJ had.....300 carries is about average for a starting RB

I think that Brandon Jackson is going to push Grant for playing time so I don't think there is much of an arguement here.

August 27, 2008  11:57 AM ET

^ Maybe, but he hasn't exactly been tearing it up during the preseason.

August 27, 2008  12:19 PM ET

There were trade rumors around Brandon Jackson at the end of last season cause he couldnt pull his own weight

August 27, 2008  12:25 PM ET

HE WAS A FREAKIN ROOKIE, Goody

August 27, 2008  12:25 PM ET

NFL is faster than college........

August 27, 2008  12:35 PM ET

Um.....The Packers have a better line than Buffalo and Lynch still dominated, as a FREAKIN ROOKIE.

Grant is better than Jackson....Thats all there is to it

August 27, 2008  01:03 PM ET

you have an equal chance of getting hurt per each carry

so if you do 12 instead of 18 you are still as likely to get hurt in the 12 you get as opposed to the 6 you dont, if you are calling the play and handing him the ball ist he best shot at a productive play then hand him the ball, if handing him the ball is not what you feel is your best shot at a productive play then dont, any other consideration is stupid

August 27, 2008  01:24 PM ET

no way they should lessen his load... i agree with goodell on this one. with rodgers being unproven if they control the ball it will make it that much easier for rodgers to be effective.

August 27, 2008  01:40 PM ET

No. They should NOT lessen his load. Unless Jackson shows that he can hold his ground.

August 27, 2008  03:13 PM ET

They are not going to lighten his workload. You have Aaron Rodgers starting, and two backups with no NFL experience, plus Brandon Jackson doesn't look capable of taking snaps away from Grant.

Nope. If anything he's going to get more carries.

Vote to Goodell.

By the way: Good comeback to DJ's statement by bringing up Marshawn Lynch.

Also, Grant wasn't a rookie last season. He signed with the Giants practice squad back in 2005. Last season was actually his third in the League.

run him till he can't run no more.

And LJ's drop off had to do with an injury and going from having one of the best OLines in the game, to one of the worst.

August 28, 2008  01:06 PM ET

I don't think they should run him until his wheels fall off, but they should run him until Rodgers is more comfortable running the offense.

August 28, 2008  01:07 PM ET

Arguments a bit better to the right...voting that way.
